Phobos and Deimos
Chapter VII:
Arena picked up the unconscious Rin, and Sango and Miroku dragged the still arguing Kagome and InuYasha out of the poisonous swamp.
“We must be on our guard, Lord Sesshomaru will no doubt be looking for Rin”, Miroku stated matter of factly.
“Miroku you are so whiney, however, you are right, as I for one do not want Lord Sesshomaru to think we did this to his Rin”, Sango said.
“Okay okay, sheesh, I had no idea you people were such scared-ey cats! We will examine her when we get out of the swamp” Arena was exasperated. Why was everyone so fearful of this Sesshomaru. If this little girl was ‘his’ then he cannot be a horribly evil demon. Could he?
InuYasha glared at the mention of the word ‘cat’, obviously unfamiliar with the 20th century phrase.
The group arrived at a tree to find Shippo bounding towards them, a look of sheer terror on his face.
“Why did you all leave me behind? You always do that to me. I was so scared. Hey, is that Rin?”
“Be quiet Shippo and let Arena look her over”, InuYasha hit Shippo over the head. Then patted him gently on the same spot when he received a daggered glare from Kagome.
Arena knelt down beside the girl beside a luscious green tree amid jasmine and lavender flowers. She could scarcely believe that such beautiful foliage could grow so near to the miasma of the swamp.
“She is bleeding internally I think, but that is easily fixed, and even if that is not the problem then everything should be healed anyway.” Arena removed any stones or sticks that could harm her or the girl and lifted the girls shirt just enough to expose her stomach. As she put her hands a demon came charging through the bush.
Arena whispered a special command ‘boethei emoi iatreuein’.
There was a flash of light, and Arena slowly crumpled to the soft forest bed.
“Rin?” Sesshomaru hid his eyes at the familiar bright light and once he opened them his initial worry turned to shock. Why did these fools find Rin when I could not. “What did you do to her?” he shouted at InuYasha.
“Hey, Sesshomaru, this time I didn’t do a thing honest, I was about to save her but then Kagome here stopped me from moving” InuYasha answered.
“We did not hurt her if that’s what you think, Lord Sesshomaru. Rin was captured by a Bog Demon, but Sango and I dispatched it easily and brought her back here out of the poisonous swamp” Kagome gently told Sesshomaru.
“Lord Sesshomaru? Is that you? Oh I knew you would come back for me! Jaken is so mean” Rin smiled to see her beloved lord when she opened her eyes.
“Are you okay Rin?” Sesshomaru asked her.
“Of course I am Lord Sesshomaru, I was scared, but I knew you would come back for me. And I was hurt, but this nice lady fixed me. Didn’t I tell you I saw her?”
Sesshomaru noticed Arena for the first time. She was crumpled on the forest bed breathing so softly that one might think she had died. Although her eyes were closed it was hard not to realize that she was the young woman he met in a rainy forest months ago. She looked so pale and eerie, but her complexion, though lifeless, was nothing close to how deathly she looked after she healed Sesshomaru’s arm.
“You can’t have her. She’s our travelling companion” InuYasha growled noticing Sesshomaru's lingering gaze.
“Why would I have a need for a piddly little human?”
“You saw what she did!” InuYasha strode past Sesshomaru and picked up Arena, who now appeared to be gaining consciousness. She murmured something about tacos and coronas and then went back to sleep. “Come on everyone, lets get back to camp before it gets dark.”
Rin whispered something urgently to Sesshomaru. He nodded his head and they both started following the group.
“If you think we are going to let you know where we are camped you can think again!” InuYasha glared at his brother again.
“Do not think that I care about such meagre things as where you sleep. Rin would like to thank your travelling companion. I will wait at the base of this hill if it matters so much. Not that you could hide your camp from me even if the Priestess cast a protective spell around it.” Sesshomaru glared right back at InuYasha. Arena started to stir and they both looked at her.
“Come on, lets get her a place to lie down” InuYasha said. Kagome smiled inwardly, it was apparent that InuYasha had finally recognized Arena as one of the group.
“Is she already waking?” Sango asked.
“It appears that Arena’s period of unconsciousness stems from how much of her lifeforce is needed to heal the person injured. Rin is a small child, therefore it takes her less lifeforce to heal her than it did me” Miroku surmised.
“Do you have an answer for everything Miroku?” Sango smiled.
“You were healed by this human?” Sesshomaru asked Miroku.
“What is it to you!!??” InuYasha asked defensively.
“InuYasha, please, it is just a question. Yes, Arena healed a broken arm of mine when we first met her. She was unsconsious for three hours” Miroku answered.
“That is it? only three hours?” Sesshomaru thought outloud.
“What do you mean that’s it? that is a long time!” Miroku said.
InuYasha snarled and Sesshomaru just looked perplexed.
