Kissing Cousins

Chapter Seven

Koenma looked up when the two girls entered his office, "Well come in. Glad to see that both of you are still alive. What were you thinking heading into the Makai? I never took either one of you as being stupid but I could be wrong."

"Who the hell are you calling stupid?" Kagome peered at the toddler. "You must need a diaper change because you're talking a lot of shit."

"I've been out of diapers for centuries I'll have you know. Now, I'm going to have Hiei return you home. First, I am going to insist that neither of you head back into the Makai. Especially you Kagome, what made you do something so drastic? You could have lived out the rest of your life as a normal human. With the jewel becoming active once more it will make things hard on you."

"WHAT?!" Both girls screamed at him.

"Surely you felt it, it should have remained dormant. The day you two arrived back I placed a seal on it. Hoping that no one, not even you two would learn of it. Somehow you managed to break it, now we will have to deal with it. I will be placing a guard on you. I will not hear any arguements either."

The door to the office opened and Kurama came walking inside to join them. Hiei looked up at him and smired, "Figures."

"Yes, Kurama I am very disappointed in you. Not only did you allow them to follow you into the Makai but you weren't going to interefere when Yomi insisted on keeping them there." Koenma stamped another paper, then started yelling. "Do you have any idea what you could have just done. All my years of work could have just been flushed because of you and Yomi's arrogance. I didn't see to Kagome's safety her whole life so you can stick your head in your ass. Now because of you two, I have another mess on my hands to deal with. Just for that, you two will see to correcting this. I won't have every youkai crossing over when they learn of the jewels reappearance. Both these girls have already seen to it's destruction once, it's not fair of me to ask them to deal with it again. Sadly, Kagome has no choice in the matter since she is it's guardian. While I'm thinking about it go get him NOW!"

Kurama simply nodded at the toddler knowing he'd get his answers once he returned with Yomi. His eyes flickered over his cousin before he turned to walk out.

Kagome sat down on the desk feeling very tired suddenly, "Why did it come back?"

"I don't know, it wasn't suppose to. Actually you were suppose to come back alone, Sango should have stayed in that era. Either way you are both here now and so is the jewel." Koenma saw the girl's flushed face. "Would you like something to drink?"

"I'm okay, just tired." She closed her eyes, feeling the wave of darkness washing over her. Sango ran up to catch her before she fell to the floor.

"Lets, get her someplace so she can rest. You two can get some sleep while I speak to my team about this problem." Koenma nodded for Hiei to carry the girl, "Please follow Sango."


Kurama and Yomi stepped into the office, neither looking pleased about it. Koenma looked over at both men in disappointment. Hiei came walking back into the room from the other entrance, "Are they settled in?"

"Hn."

"Very well, now I should have both of you arrested for being stupid. Kurama it is your fault they even stepped into the Makai. Yomi it's your fault that the seal I placed was broken. What made you think you could force a miko to bend to your will? Not just any miko at that but the guardian herself. Now I have to figure out what needs to be done. Both of them will be in danger, especially Kagome. Not to mention the Ningenkai once youkai realize that the jewel is back. No matter what laws Enki has layed down or the new ruler for that. Those that seek its power will break whatever laws they wish. See what you two have done, fools the both of you."

"I think you need to calm down and explain a few things." Kurama folded his arms over his chest, "The name calling isn't needed either."

"No, but it's appropiate. Both girls were there five centuries ago when the hanyou Naraku was defeated. I'm sure you two know the name even if you never met the man. They had their parts in bringing him down. Kagome was originally from this era, while Sango belonged there. There was a mistake and when Kagome returned home the other girl was brought with her. As soon as they came through I realized that the jewel had merely returned to the girl. So I placed a ward on it hoping it would remain hidden."

"What do want us to do?"

"Well, I'm not sure what we can do. If they remain in the Ningenkai then youkai will be coming through to seek the jewel. If they go to the Makai they will be attacked there also."

"Can't you just put another ward on the girl?" Yomi asked.

"No I cannot, the jewel has been awakened. I think I have decided what to do, Yomi you will help. Your part will be easy, I want more men patrolling the border. I don't want anyone coming through thats not suppose to. Kurama I have something else for you to do. Since she is your cousin I will leave this part up to you. It would be best if the girl found herself a mate, that way she will have his protection."

"What?"

"Yes, I think it will be best. I will inform her of my decision and what's to be done. You are a good judge of character usually, pick a few to bring to her. I'll let the choice be hers but she will pick a mate before the next tournament begins. Until she does she is in your protection. You two are dismissed."

"It's not that bad Kagome." Sango tried to calm her friend down.

"How can you say that? You aren't being forced to mate with some youkai." Kagome groaned in her hands wanting nothing more than to kill Kurama at the moment. The bastard had informed her he was the one to pick them out for her. She couldn't imagine who he would try to get for her. He had the nerve to smile at her earlier. Her new cousin was nothing more than a pompous, arrogant, stupid, selfish, inconsiderate youkai.

"True but you are a good judge of character, you will find someone decent. You have almost four months to find someone you could be happy with. It could be worse, we could be dead." Sango sat down on the bed beside her. "We will get through this, finding a mate could be a good thing. Just don't pick someone like Kurama or Yomi and you'll do fine."

"I still don't like it, I don't want a stupid man thinking he can order me around." Kagome looked up when the door opened and Koenma stepped in. "Jerk!"

"Don't yell at me missy. Now Hiei will be taking you two back to your apartment. Sango we won't be restricting your movements. Kagome you will have a constant guard. Don't worry Kurama is going to be it, he's going to deal with his parents. Since he is in charge of helping you find one, he is the best choice. Besides he's family, he will make sure you find someone decent."

"He's no family of mine and he'll probably pick someone like himself. He's an asshole and I don't like him." She screamed knowing he was standing right outside the door listening to every word. "He better be careful or I might try to steal his boyfriend just to be a bitch."

"Kagome!" Sango was shocked at the accusation.

"What?! Don't see how I'm going to find a man if he is going to be around. All then men will be staring at him since he's prettier. Why would they want me when they have the perfect lady hanging around?" Kagome smiled when she saw him walk into the room with an angry look on his face. Good, she hoped it made him mad.

"Don't blame me if you aren't attractive enough to find a man on your own. Open your legs, that might work though I highly doubt it." He tossed back at her.

"Enough you two," Koenma was tired of the bickering. "Hiei come in here and see that they are taken home. I need a nap, listening to these two have given me a headache."
