Chapter Seven


"Hiei?" Kurama walked up to him not sure what to say. What male would want revenge for Hiei's mother's death? "Hiei what do you know of your father?"

"Nothing but he abandoned my mother."

"Then what male would seek revenge for your mother?" Kurama could no longer sense the girl.

"I don't know but I know who might."


Rui saw him approaching accompanied by the fox, she was sitting on the ground away from the other koorime. They were scrounging through the remains to gather belongings, hoping to find a new home. Had he come to finish off what the girl had started? Had he come for his revenge as well? She waited for him to speak first. The question stunned her.

"What do you know of my father?"

She looked at the ground, why did he want to know? "Some."

"Tell me."

"Very well, it's the least I can do. Your mother and he were deeply in love but it was forbidden as you know. Their relationship was kept hidden, when it became apparent that she was expecting he left." She heard the man's growl and frowned. "Don't think badly of him, he had someone after his life. He didn't want your mother to leave the island. He swore to come back as soon as it was safe for him to bring her down. You were earlier than expected and your father hadn't returned yet. You know what happened to you and your mother." He didn't say anything so she continued. "You or your sister don't know what happened after. A month after you had been banished your father returned to collect your mother. It was apparent that he was recovering from a grave injury. Still weak, he'd come for you. The elders told him of your fate and that of your mother. He was most distraught and angry, they also informed him of your sister. He demanded that they had over his child but they refused him. He tried to take her by force. When it became apparent that he wasn't going to stop they forced his hand. Telling him that if he didn't leave, that they would kill your sister before he got near her. The elder told him that she would kill the child before handing her over to him. They told him if he tried to come near the girl, they would see to her death. He left not wanting to cause the death of the only child he had left. I've never seen him since."

Kurama watched the many emotions crossing his friend's face and knew he couldn't speak. "Tell us where we can find him."


They got to the small village before nightfall and began asking around. An elderly woman pointed towards the hut at the far end saying to go there for answers. They stopped at the hut and didn't get to the door before a voice spoke.

"They aren't here."

"Excuse me?" Kurama turned to see a very old youkai male coming towards them.

"Well, since you are about to knock on the door. My first guess is that you are here to visit, well they aren't here."

"Yes, can you tell us where he is?" Kurama didn't sense anyone else near.

"What's it to you?"

"Just answer the damn question you old fool." Hiei yelled at him.

He began laughing at him. "You sound just like Killany, must be friends."

"Who's Killany?" Kurama asked.

"His daughter of course."

"Well can you tell us where she is?" The fox saw the man's face frown.

"She left not too long ago, shortly after he passed on. Shame, it's too quiet around here without her."

Kurama heard Hiei's intake of breath at learning his father was dead. "We need to speak to her then, can you give us a description?"

"Hmmm, well lets see. Looked like her mother, she did. Why do you ask?"

"Thank you, is it possible to tell us where he is buried." Kurama guided the smaller man to follow the old man. They stopped at a grave and he left them. Hiei did nothing but stared at the marker for a long time.

Finally he did, "Is it possible for a merger without a death?"

"I don't think so Hiei, I'd think from what we saw another soul entered Kagome's body. The jewel was said to be in Kagome's and she had the jewel in her." He tried to comfort his friend. "I'm sorry. Where are you going?"

"To find the girl."
