Chapter Five

Kagome walked down the isle pushing the cart, not really looking where she was going. Her mind occupied with other things besides it being her night to make dinner. The kids were screaming for spaghetti and meatballs. She stopped in front of the sauces and sighed. Dinner would be coming out a can, she wasn't much for homemade cooking. She turned her head to the right and her eyes began to water. Ramen was sitting on the shelf, calling to her. Inuyasha! Her heart gave a slight twist at the thought of him. How was he? Did he miss her as much as she missed him?

A hand touched her shoulder, her head spun to find large green eyes staring at her in concern. Her hand went to wipe the tears of her cheeks. "Uhh, hello. Sorry forgot where I was for a minute." She took in the guy's features then saw the long red hair. "Oh my!"

"Yes, I was suprised to see you as well. Alone today are we?" Kurama asked, his head turning searching for any sign of the other two.

"I'm alone, its my night to make dinner. You're safe."

"Really, if I remember it was you that was giving me hell."

"You started it, the first time was an accident." She tried smiling, pushing thoughts of the hanyou in the back of her mind.

"Are you okay?" He asked.

"Yep, great." She turned her attention back to the jars in front of her. What to get? Picking something to please everyone was hard.
Except Taree, she would eat anything. Her hand picked up the jar of traditional sauce.

"The mushroom and sausage is excellent."

"Yeah, but if I tried to serve those kids that I'd end up picking up food off the floor. Besides Mai doesn't like mushrooms either." Kagome stated.

"Mai, that's the blonde right?"

Kagome looked at him, was it just her or was he interested? "Yes, it is. She's usually the silent but deadly one. Why do you ask?"

"Just curious. How often do you girls get to go out?"

"Well, whenever our parole officer thinks we can be allowed to run the streets freely. Never know who we might maim or kill." She turned to walk away.

"I didn't mean it like that. Look, I'm throwing a party this weekend. Saturday night actually, would you and your friends be interested in coming?"

"I don't know." She eyed him. Was him and his friends planning on payback for the movie theater? "Why would you even want us to come?"

"Believe it or not Hiei and I both find you three to be entertaining. Though I'm sure Yusuke will be a little upset if you were to show. I'm afraid he still wants to throttle your little friend."

"Hah, it would be funny to watch him try. Even a hanyou can be purified."

"Let me give you my number. If you change your mind give me a call and I'll give you directions."

"Fine I'll ask them but I can't promise anything." Kagome took the number and stuck it in her pocket. "I gotta get back. Later Red."

"You're shitting me, he gave you his number?" Mai was helping Kagome wash the dishes that night.

"Yes, so wanna go?"

"Yeah right, so we can get pelted with water balloons filled with blood as soon as we walk in the door. No thanks." Mai was scrubbing the plates. "It's got to be a set up think about it. They have no reason to want us to go within ten feet of them, especially Taree."

"He did say the one named Yusuke wouldn't be too happy. I can only assume he was the tall dark haired one."

"I say we crash it." Taree came skipping into the kitchen.

"We aren't going to crash it." Mai grabbed the pot off the stove. "If it's a serious invitation, that wouldn't be right."

"Would be fun though." Tar went to the fridge and grabbed her a bottle of water.

"I'll call and find out what's up since I really didn't do anything to offend them." Mai finished up the pot.

"Yeah you did, you smacked the one guy in the head." Kagome pointed out.

"That's all. You two were being the biggest pain. Kagome give me the number and I'll call him."


Mai listened to the phone ring three times before someone answered. She looked on the paper, "Can I speak to Kurama?"

"Speaking."

"Hi, this is Mai. Kagome told me about your invitation."

"Yes, I told her you three were invited to stop by the party I was throwing this Saturday." His voice was extremely sexy she decided. He also sounded sincere.

"What's the catch?"

"No catch. I would like it if you three would stop by. Let bygones be bygones, as they say. So will you come?"

She had to think about it, he didn't sound like he was scheming. "Okay fine but this better not be some trick to get even with us."

"Of course not. Here's my address and the party will be starting around eight."


Kagome looked at her rear in the long mirror. The black skirt made her ass look too wide in her opinion. "You think this skirt makes my ass look big?"

"No, your ass makes your ass look big." Tar was brushing her long hair, pulling it over her shoulder. She wasn't sure about this, seemed too convienent. "Besides I'm sure shorty is into chunky asses."

"Screw you. I don't care what shorty is into." Why should she care what he liked? She still loved Inuyasha. Sure the short one was cute and had intense eyes but she wasn't ready to move on romantically.

Mai walked into the room. "Don't bother talking to her Kagome. She doesn't worry about guys, she has that big lug sitting out on the front porch."

"At least he's faithful, obediant and he shuts the hell up when I tell him to. Everything a good man should be." She slipped on her sandals. Tonight they all left their hair down. "I don't want another boyfriend for a long time."

"You've had a boyfriend before Tar?" Kagome looked over at her, she'd never heard of a boyfriend before.

"Yes, we split up right before I met you actually. I prefer not to speak of him." The usual chipper girl sounded sad.

"Are we ready to go now? It's already after eight." Mai studied herself in the mirror real quick. She had on a soft blue sun dress with matching sandals. She'd bought it last week, now she had a chance to wear it.


Kurama looked at the clock once more, it was going for nine and they hadn't shown yet. He noticed that even Hiei kept looking at the door waiting. Of course his reason was because of another person. He was interested in talking to the blonde while he believed Hiei was lightly curious about the dark miko. Yusuke was somewhere in the small apartment, sulking no doubt. The former detective had been very upset learning that Kurama had invited the three girls.

The fox had seen him walk up the stairs about thirty minutes ago with Kuwabara, not to be seen again. Probably watching t.v. until he knew they weren't coming for sure. Everyone else was in the kitchen or living room enjoying themselves. He was sure he was taking a chance inviting them to a party with all their youkai friends. He knew the one named Kagome was aware of their existence, so the others should know as well.

Another reason Yusuke was probably hiding was because Keiko was in the kitchen talking to Botan. They had yet to resume dating one another. Jin answered the door bell when it rang and backed up to let the three girls in. Kurama stood in the hall and watched as they came inside a few feet. His eyes roamed the blonde as she glanced around. He caught her eyes as she turned to look his way.

A loud scream filled the air. "Take This!" Suddenly all three girls along with Jin were soaked as a large tub of water was dumped over the stairwell. Gasps were heard as the last of the water descended.

Kurama looked up to see Yusuke and Kuwabara holding the large metal tub. Where the hell had they gotten that from? A sudden blaze of energy caused his eyes to avert back to the girls.

"Mai." Taree wiped the water out her face. She'd felt the anger radiating from her friend. She'd talked excitedly all the way over here about how polite Kurama had sounded. Now this. Normally it wouldn't bother her but her friends had gone through a lot of trouble with their appearances. "Kagome back up now."

Kagome didn't need to be told twice. "Fuck me." The girl's aura blazed causing blue flames to spread all around her. "Mai."

"Holy shit, she's pissed." Kuwabara looked down at the girl.

Taree backed up an inch trying to calm her down. "Mai as much as I appreciate you drying me off, stop. I don't think Kurama wants you to burn down his home."

The red head took a step forward but Kagome grabbed his arm. "Don't. Let Tar handle it."

The flames started shooting up, the floor was begining to catch on fire. Tar had to get her calm and out the house. She took a step forward, putting a shield around herself. She'd let the house burn before she gets a blister. Her small hand was placed on the girl's arm, flames flickering around it. "Lets get out of here." She grabbed her hand and lend her out the doorway.

Once both girls were out Kagome turned to Kurama. He was watching them go. Someone quickly went to put out the fire by the door. The miko turned to the fox, "Do me a favor, give this to your two friends upstairs for me." She brought her hand down across his face, his flesh stung. She ran after her friends, hoping Mai wasn't burning the shrubbery.

Kurama put his hand to the blistered skin on his face. "Yusuke!"
