Chapter Seven
"Inuyasha, I gave my life for you because I loved the small boy you once were." She looked up at him. Her face became one of anger and pain.
Inuyasha felt heat begin to burn his arms and he cried out. He was soon pushed backwards landing on his back. He pushed himself into a sitting position. "What the hell was that for?"
"As I said I did it for the boy you once were, you are no longer that boy. I gave my life for you, a foolish mistake on my part. One I won't be repeating. Because you are not responsible I will not take your life this day." She turned her back to him. "I give you only one warning, stay out of my way. If you interfere with my plans, I will kill you."
Byayuka suddenly appeared in front of her. "Naraku sent you to kill him."
"Boy, I do not take orders from anyone. I appreciate the new life Naraku has given me, I will thank him properly later. If you insist on standing in my way you will die. Step aside. I have business to attend to." He didn't move out her way just stared at her.
"Naraku ordered me to take you back. He is waiting for you to return to him."
"Then he can keep waiting. If I decide to return to him it will be a time of my own choosing." She glared at him. If he didn't move she would kill him. Even if it interfered with her plans, she wouldn't tolerate him ordering her around. The youkai must be a fool to stand so cocky before her. "This is your last warning. Either way I will not be returning with you. You can step aside and inform him of that yourself or he can find out when he finds your rotting corpse."
"Hn." Within seconds the boy was gone, leaving a cloud of black smoke in his wake. She sighed when he was gone. She was suddenly very tired.
"What the fuck is your problem? Let me guess Naraku brought you back and forgot to give you a heart." Inuyasha was pissed. His emotions in tormoil. He'd felt so safe in her arms, so unlike anything he'd ever felt. Then she'd ruined it by turning into a bitch.
"Rest assured half breed, I have a heart. You are just no longer in it. Stay out of my way." She gave him her back not being able to look him in the face. She could sense Naraku's insects, they were watching. He already knew of her actions, which was exactly what she wanted. "Naraku did a wonderful job with my new body. Unlike some I am not made of clay and bones. He was very generous, I shall have to show him how much I appreciate it. Farewell."
Inuyasha watched her go. He silently cursed himself for giving a damn. He'd been worried about having killed her. She was turning out to be a bitch. Fine, but she better stay out his way. If she joined forces with Naraku then he would have no choice but to kill her. He couldn't understand why that thought left him feeling empty.
Kagome was riding on the hanyou's back once more. It had been a week since the day they'd been confronted by Leiko. Inuyasha was more sullen and moody. Not that she could complain. It was the Kikyo situation all over again, kind of. She had been his first friend as a child, even if he had forgotten her for awhile. The small boy he once was had to have loved her. Kagome sighed remembering the hug he had given her. True she had seen him hug Kikyo almost just like that. The pain was a dull ache in her chest. She wanted him to be happy, even if it wasn't with her. She was the closest friend the hanyou had, yet he refused to talk to her about what was going on inside his head. And his heart.
The hanyou stopped suddenly and growled. "Whats wrong?" She felt herself being lowered to the ground as he pulled out his fang.
"Sesshomaru, he's near."
Kagome felt herself blush once more. As soon as she got her flushed face under control the demon lord suddenly stepped out of the woods onto the dirt road. He wasn't looking at anyone besides Inuyasha with a concerned look on his face. Which everyone knew was uncommon for him. He rarely showed emotion, if he did it was anger. He walked within hearing distance.
"Have you found the ashes?" His voice calm though his eyes spoke volumes.
"Little too late for that," Inuyasha hefted the fang over his shoulder. "A week too late."
"What do you mean?"
Inuyasha didn't answer which caused the lord to growl and take a menacing step forward. Kagome didn't want to see a fight break out. So she stepped forward, "I'm not sure how to tell you this but Naraku used the ashes." At his questioning look she continued, "Lady Leiko is alive once more. I'm not sure how he did it but she isn't like Kikyo. She's actually alive somehow. Her body is made of flesh, its like she never died."
"You have seen her?"
"Yes, Naraku was trying to use her to kill Inuyasha. She left, nothing else. We don't know if she returned to Naraku's side or where she is now." Kagome looked into his flawless face and felt that odd stiring in the pit of her stomach. What was wrong with her?
"No need to lie Kagome. She's in league with Naraku now, she said so herself." Inuyasha's voice was bitter.
"Well, she didn't exactly say that." Miroku added. "We can only speculate at her motives."
"Believe what you want but I know what I heard."
"If so, then why do you still breathe?" Sesshomaru asked. His brother was a fool. He didn't believe that, if there was one person that Naraku couldn't corrupt it was her. Nor would she ever hurt his pathetic half brother. Though he himself would have no problem killing him. Especially if he caused her harm. "Where did she go?"
"She went towards the south, our current direction. Lord Sesshomaru can you answer me this before you take your leave?" The monk took a step forward. "From what Myouga told us you knew the girl."
"What of it."
"Is there a chance Naraku could have corrupted her soul?" He had to know.
"Never." He turned to look at the small miko traveling with them. "She isn't one to be controlled. She is very strong-willed and cunning. Harm her and you will die." He was speaking to Inuyasha.
He never took his eyes off the strange girl. A blush covered her cheeks at his inspection. He could smell her even from this far away. His nose tingled from it. In all his life he'd only been able to stand the scent of three humans. Leiko had been the first, then there was Rin. What suprised him was he liked the scent coming from his brother's woman. It caused anger to well in his chest. She was pretty for a human but she also reeked of his brother. His scent constantly clung to her.
"Go to hell, if she starts any shit with me, she's going to die."
"You are a fool. If she wanted you dead, you would have already ceased breathing." He gave them his back, dismissing them. He went to go find Jaken and Rin.
