chapter 5
*This is the last chapter of this story, and the most difficult to write. I'm not completely happy with this story, but I tried my best and it was my first story after all. Please let me know if I should keep writing I have a couple ideas for stories right now, but I gotta work those out on paper. Thanx again and as always to all who read and all who reviewed...you made this a worthwhile endevor for me...even if you didn't enjoy the story...I appreciate your patience! XOXO
Kagome went home for graduation. She said farewell to her friends, and family and promised to come back often to visit. She packed her bag and headed towards the well.
Meanwhile, Naraku’s plan was set in motion. He would disguise himself as Inuyasha, and wait for Kagome. Kikyo would keep Inuyasha busy while he kidnapped Kagome.
Inuyasha watched as the souls stealers floated around the forest where he was finishing building Kagome’s surprise: A home of their own.
He began walking in the direction of the soul stealers. He felt guilty for going to see Kikyo, but he wanted her to know that he chose to live…to live and build a new life with Kagome. Of course they had hoped that Naraku was defeated before they had a family, but…
“Inuyasha…”
“Bye! See you all soon!” Kagome waved to her family as she disappeared into the well house and down the well. When Kagome pulled herself out of the well, it was dark and it looked like a storm was on its way. As she neared the top, a hand wrapped around her arm and helped her over the edge.
“Inuyasha!” She hugged him and kissed his cheek.
“I’m glad your back, Ka-go-me.” Kagome didn’t see the evil smirk that ran across ‘Inuyasha’s’ beautiful features. He kissed her and stood taking her hands. “Come on!” They began walking away from the village as the rain began to pour.
“Kikyo, I need to talk to you.”
Kikyo smiled.
“I’m sorry…I cannot follow you to hell…I won’t. I WILL make Naraku pay for what he has done, but I have found a reason to live, Kikyo. Kagome. I’m in love with her, and she is going to have my child…I won’t leave them. I know you’ve tried to hurt Kagome in the past,” he narrowed his eyes, “if anything should happen to her or our child…then I WILL NOT be held responsible for my actions.”
Kikyo could hardly hold back the smirk coming to her lips. She couldn’t look at Inuyasha as she spoke. “Of course, Inuyasha. I would never dream (A/N: sarcasm, anyone? lol?) of hurting my reincarnation, or your child…how could you insinuate? …
“I know you, Kikyo.”
She finally met his eyes, and his heart almost stopped at the look of pure malice in her eyes. He swallowed the lump in his throat.
“Apparently, you do not know me well enough.”
“What game are you playing, Kikyo?”
She shook her head. “No game, Inuyasha. Kagome is now in Naraku’s possession.” She handed him a piece of paper.
“What do you mean?”
“He disguised himself as you and waited for Kagome to return…all I had to do was lure you away.” She smiled.
He was about ready to tear something apart.
“Calm down, Inuyasha, perhaps you should read the note. He opened it and read:
-Your life for the girls
It began to rain as his eyes bleed red. He looked up at Kikyo. “You WILL pay for this…where are they?”
“You have two choices…either way you die.”
He sank to his knees. “Why? How could you do this?”
She walked over and kneeled beside him. “I will not be pushed aside or forgotten! I knew your heart belonged to her since I returned…she’s changed you! Pitty it made you soft. So what will you do? Will you sacrifice yourself for the girl or will you come to hell with me?”
He looked at her in disgust. “I’ll pretend I didn’t even hear that!? WHERE ARE THEY?!” He grabbed Kikyo and shook her.
“Get off of me!!! If you insist…Follow the stream…you’ll find them.”
He ran.
“Inuyasha, where are we going? Please slow down”
Naraku kept on heading into the forest, his grip tightening on her wrist.
“Ow...please let go of my wrist…Inuyasha?”
He stopped and grabbed her arms. “I am not Inuyasha…”
Kagome was now very scared. She watched in horror as the silver hair turned black and the dog ears disappeared. The red robes morphed into purple and black….
“NARAKU?!?!” She pulled out of his grip and fell to her knees holding her stomach.
Naraku laughed. “Poor, Kagome. It was almost too easy.” He kneeled in front of her. “You have no need to fear me child…I want Inuyasha.”
“B…b…but…Please leave us alone!” She pulled out the bottle of shard and tore it from the necklace. “Here…isn’t this what you want?! Haven’t you destroyed enough lives?!” She struggled to her feet. “Haven’t you made him suffer enough?! He only want to live the rest of his life in peace!...Please?”
Naraku rose and considered her plea. A strong wind picked up and Kagura landed beside them. “Inuyasha is on the way.” She looked at Kagome, and then her enlarged belly. “What about the girl, and the child?”
Naraku looked at her for a moment. Make sure she doesn’t interfere and he walked away…
“YOU BASTARD…YOU COWARD!!!” Kagome took out a hidden dagger, and ran towards Naraku. He turned before she could stab him, took the weapon, spun her around, and placed the blade at her stomach.
“Do NOT test me miko. I have no reservation in killing you, if you cross me again… Consider my mercy towards you and Inuyasha’s child as a blessing…”
“NARAKU! Let her go!” Inuyasha dropped from the trees. “I’m the one you want…let them alone…”
Naraku released Kagome, and she ran to Inuyasha. He held her close. She was mumbling something, but he couldn’t make it out.
“It’s time Inuyasha.”
“Just…wait…let me say good-bye…”
“What do you mean, Inuyasha? You aren’t going to do something stupid are you?”
“I have no choice…”
“What do you mean?! We can fight!”
“I’m tired of fighting, Kagome…he just outsmarted us…”
“DAMN YOU!!!” She slapped him. “I told you something like this would happen! This is the reason I wake up in the middle of the night screaming!!!”
Inuyasha grabbed a now sobbing Kagome and kissed her.
“I want you to live, Kagome, you and our child! Naraku is holding ALL the cards, but as long as you are safe it doesn’t matter…don’t you understand?”
“NO…NO! It’s not fair…we came so fair!!!”
He took her face in his hands. “I know…” He sighed. “But life’s not fair.” He kissed her, and placed his hand on her belly. “Please…live…for me?”
“How touching…come now Inuyasha.”
“Inuyasha!…Kagome!” Miroku and Sango landed on Kirara prepared to attack.
“Miroku…Sango…get Kagome out of here!”
“Inuyasha…what?”
Inuyasha let go of Kagome and walked towards Kagura. “I said leave, now!!!” He kneeled.
It finally dawned on them what was happening when Kagura drew a sword.
“INUYASHA! NO!” They yelled.
Miroku was holding onto a struggling Kagome. “LET ME GO!!! GET OFF OF ME!!! INUYASHA…INUYASHA!!!”
She broke free. What none of them knew was that Kikyo was hidden in the woods with an arrow notched and ready to fire.
As Kagome ran towards Inuyasha, Kikyo fired twice. The arrows hit Kagome in the back.
“NOOOOOO!” Inuyasha yelled as he watched Kagome fall to the ground.
Kagura’s arms froze over her head as she watched. Inuyasha spun around grabbed the sword, drew tetsuaiga, and struck Kagura and Naraku before they new what was happening. Naraku was still struggling, but Inuyasha cut the shards from his back, and he disappeared.
Inuyasha walked over to where Kagome fell. Miroku and Sango were trying to stop the bleeding. Inuyasha took Kagome in his arms. He looked up to see Kikyo watching. He handed Kagome back to Miroku. Kikyo turned, but he was to fast for her.
“YOU! You BITCH! How could you?! It wasn’t enough that I was going to die by Naraku’s hand…you had to go and kill my wife, and our child?!?!” He slapped her.
“Give me one reason not to kill you right now!”
“Go to hell!” She spit in his face.
“You first” He tightened his claws around her neck, and used his other to slice through her flesh. Kikyo fell, and her soul was released. The soul floated over to Kagome and hovered there.
Inuyasha crawled back over to Kagome, and held her limp body. “Inuyasha?” Kagome whispered.
Inuyasha was surprised, he thought she was dead. “Kagome? I thought I lost you?”
Kagome coughed and blood dribbled down her chin. “I…I…needed to tell you…I (cough) I love you…please…be happy.” She closed her eyes.
“KAGOME! NOOOO! Please…please don’t leave me!!!” He sobbed. Miroku and Sango came over and hugged Inuyasha hold Kagome’s lifeless body.
Sesshoumaru came into the clearing by the stream. He glanced at the hovering soul, and hurried over towards them.
“Quick! Inuyasha give her to me!”
They all looked up a little startled. Inuyasha handed Kagome to Sesshoumaru.
He laid her on the ground and drew tenseiga. A moment later, Kagome began coughing.
Inuyasha gently took her in his arms. Miroku and Sango hugged their friends and cried.
“Thank you, Sesshoumaru” Inuyasha reached out his hand, and shook his brother’s hand once again. “Thank you.”
Sesshoumaru nodded and headed back towards the village.
Inuyasha clung to Kagome as if his life depended on it.
“Ow!”
“What’s a matter Kagome?” Inuyasha asked.
She placed her hand on her belly. “I think I’m going into labor. OW! Yep!”
“Miroku, we need fresh water, and blankets!” Said Sango.
“Here, take this!” Inuyasha removed his outer kimono.
“Great! Miroku, wet this in the stream!” Sango took off her apron.
“Inuyasha…it hurts…”
“You’re doing great Kagome.” He looked at Sango. She nodded.
Kagome was in between Inuyasha’s legs leaning against his chest. Miroku returned with the wet cloth.
“OK, Kagome push! Great! You’re doing good Kagome! Once again, push!”
“Owww!”
Miroku reached his hand down for Kagome to hold, and she held Inuyasha’s other hand.
“OK one more push Kagome.” Sango coached.
Kagome pushed. There was silence and then they could hear the baby crying.
“Congratulations! You have a little boy!” Sango took the cloth from Miroku and cleaned the baby and then wrapped him in her apron and handed him to Kagome and Inuyasha.
Inuyasha kissed Kagome. “Thank you, Kagome.”
“For what?”
“For giving me another chance at life.”
They all sat by the stream. Talking and laughing. They would have much to celebrate when they got back to the village. The defeat of Naraku, and the birth of Inuyasha and Kagome’s child.
