Fridge Raiders and Drama Kings

Disclaimer: I don’t own Inuyasha. It belongs to Rumiko Takahashi.

A/N: I am so so sorry!!! I’ve done it again! But this time I have a much happy reason for the delay, you see, I started working 24/7 so I didn’t have a spare moment to write... of course that didn’t last long because I quit. You see, I found myself completely without a social life what so ever and with zero energy for writing and reading, my favorite hobbies. (a small tip for you, I don’t know there in the USA or wherever you readers are from, but here in Argentina if you work at the mall you become a slave, so don’t work at a mall, ever!!) ... And as I am no ones slave I was tired of been used as one and of been on my feet every damn hour of the day, so, to make a haste I quit and was able to finish the chapter. I was going to thank everybody one by one but I’d decide it to make it short so:

THANKS EVERYBODY FOR YOUR WONDERFUL REVIEWS!!!! I LOVE YOU PEOPLE! Oh! and for those who guessed who the thief was, congratulations! ;)

Sorry about the grammar!!! Now, enjoy the chapter!

Chapter 6: Fridge Raiders and Drama Kings

Humming to himself as he inspected the fridge, he frowned in frustration. ‘What is this stuff? Lettuce??? Yogurt?? What the hell is wrong with women? Don’t they eat at all? I mean, c’mon, where are the good stuffs? Like... like... meat, bacon, eggs... anything...’ So entranced he was that he missed to realized the sound of the front door and the figure advancing stealthily towards him... Then he saw it. A shadow looming over him. And he quickly turned around, just as a voice bellowed, startling enough to bump his head with the fridge.

“What the hell are you doing here?”

“Ouch!” He yelled as he slowly felt the lump on his head, standing straight. “Gee, relax, will ya?” he said to then gap at her. “What happened to your face?? You should put some ice on that.”

“Nothing, minor problem last night. I repeat: What the hell are you doing here?” She put her gun away slowly without taking her eyes of him.

“Yeah, I’m happy to see you too, Kaggie. How’s the family? Oh! They’re fine, I’m fine, everybody’s fine, thanks.” He said sarcastically.

“Don’t be a smart ass.” She snapped and then sighed caused she realized she had taken her day frustrations out on him. “I’m sorry. Not a good day,” she said as she neared him.

“It’s okay. What are you PMSing or somethin’?” he snickered.

“Yeah, something. Come here and give me a hug.” She hugged him, noting how much she had missed him in the little time she had been away from home. Once he distanced himself from her, she grabbed his shoulders. “Let me look at you. Are you taller or is it just me shrinking?”

“C’mon Kag, it hasn’t been that long.” He said embarrassed. Kagome grinned. She had really missed the kid, but that didn’t explain why was he here.
Walking around the kitchen, grabbing a jar from one of the cabinets and two cups, she began to prepare the coffee when a thought crossed her mind. “Wait! Is Mom alright? Did something happened to Grandpa?”

“No, no, relax. Everything’s fine. Me being here has nothing to do with them, well it does, but it doesn’t.”

“I’m going to pretend that made sense. So, now that the pleasantries have been exchanged... Are you going to tell me what are you doing in my house robbing my fridge or in Tokyo for that matter? And just for the record...How did you manage to get in?” She asked suspiciously.

“Excuse me, but what’s there to rob? Lettuce? Yuck! Anyway, I came because I have a good a news.”

“What... Was the phone broken? Or maybe the Internet was-”

“Shut it, will ya? Or I won’t tell you anything.”

She rolled her eyes. “Ok. I’m all ears.”

“I’ve been accepted at Tokyo University.” He said abruptly, smiling widely.

“You were- You’re kiddin’! Really?? Sota, that’s wonderful!!! Congratulations!” She said laughing and yelling, near tears and enveloped him in a fierce hug, kissing him all over as he tried to squirm out. “I can’t believe it, oh my God! This is so wonderful!” Laughing, all the while hugging him, trying to dance as she could with her injured ankle.

“Umm, Kaggie... Would you mind lettin’ me breathe?” He choked out, his face blotching red, as he gapped for air.

“Oh! Sorry, it’s just that-that- Mom must be ecstatic! And grandpa! And Da-” She stopped in middle sentence, a bitter-sweet smile on her lips. “Dad, would be so proud of you Sota, so proud,” she told him softly, hugging him again this time allowing him to breathe.

“You really think so, Kag? I mean, that Dad-” he started insecurely.

“Of course he would, dolt, what did you think? We are all so proud of you.” The coffee machine beeped letting her know that the coffee was ready. Releasing Sota, before she would break down into sobs, she occupied her hands serving the coffee.

Sota coughed awkwardly and sipped his coffee. “Anyway.”

Kagome, the sad mood over, snorted. “Yeah. As honored as I am that you traveled all the way here to let me know you were accepted, you still haven’t told me the real reason of why you are here when you could have easily called and warned me you were coming.”

“You know... Sisters are a pain.” He said annoyed.

“I know. Now spit it out, buster.”

“You know that the University has dorms, right? And they are not very safe. So with Mom we thought that it would be nice and everything that...hmm, that I’d stayed with you, instead.” He finished, praying that she wouldn’t ask anymore of it.

“Mmm...Well, we wouldn’t wont you mugged or anything, right?” She stared at him, while sipping her cup. ‘What is he up to?’ “Are you going to tell me the rest, or do I have to beat it out of you?” She asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Dammit! You are such a pain in the ass! Why can’t you be like my friend’s sisters that can’t see what’s under their nose, even if it came and bit them in the ass.”

Now with her both brows raised, Kagome smiled. “Well, then I would suck at my job, now would I? C’mon, kid, ‘fess up.”

“Fine,” he said sulkily. “Remember that girl I was seeing back home? The one I started dating a month before-” He didn’t finished. They both knew he began dating the girl a month before their father’s death.

“Which one?”

“Don’t play dumb Kagome!” He snapped and just to get back at her he said, “You know,” he said as he gestured towards his chest, “the one with the great pair of-”

“OK. Got the picture. What was her name?”

“Never mind that! Are you going to let me finish or what?”

“Hey, don’t get all crazy on me. Go on.” Amused she finished her coffee and filled another cup. Damn, it tasted good.

“So anyway, the thing is, I broke up with her about three weeks ago and the bit-” He stopped, seeing Kagome’s glare. “The girl, Nabiki, said I couldn’t leave her, that she loved me and blah, blah, blah, but I left her anyway and then she started calling me everyday, like every three hours, first in the afternoons but then she called at late hours, drunk, spurting nonsense. She also began following me, showing up when I was with the guys-” He interrupted as he heard Kagome laughing.

“Sota- or should I say Casanova?” She laughed but seeing him glaring at her, she tried to control herself. So she smiled instead. “Really, little brother, so big deal... the girl bothered calling you over some times, so what? You couldn’t handle that? You should be flattered... In a twisted sorta way.”

“You don’t get it Sis, I’m telling you she went all ‘Fatal Attraction’ on me, and I mean freaky, Glen Close, ‘end of the movie’ attitude, the only thing missing was the rabbit on Mom’s kettle and I’m positive she would have come to it sooner or later.” He shivered.

“Is that really why you came here? I can’t believe you!” She began laughing again.

“It’s not funny, alright? It’s creepy. Besides, she is a real bitch, I mean she said stuff that were really mean, really hateful.”

“Like what? Sota, please-”

“Stuff about Dad, Kagome.” That cut through Kagome’s humor.

“What do you mean?” Serious now, her mind running all speed. ‘Could the girl have anything to do with Dad’s murder? Could she know something? A witness perhaps?’ “What Sota, tell me!”

“I don’t know Kags, she was really wasted and blabbered a lot of things changing the subject every minute.”

“Think Sota! What things?”

“I don’t know... Things like she knew who had killed Dad and that he deserved it, and that we would never find the guilty-” His voice broke and he turned his back to her, trying to recompose himself.

Kagome felt anger taking over her, but repressed it. She fisted her hands and coolly said, “What else?” She heard him gulp and felt guilty. She put her hands on his shoulders and squeezed gently. “It’s okay Sota, you don’t have to tell me.” ‘But I’ll find out either way.’

“No, that’s why I came in part.” He calmed himself. “I hung up the minute she began babbling those things, but I always manage to hear some. That Dad deserved what happened to him and that the killer had been right and that you would never catch him.”

“Did she say anything about the killer? Something that could give me a clue as to who was it?” ‘How can the girl know the murderer? Unless... Unless she worked for him...’

Sota hesitated. “She said-she said that the killer was someone everybody knew and admire... You don’t think she meant-”

“The Hanyou?” ‘I don’t want to think she did mean him...Though, known and admired by everybody, certainly he fits the role where Naraku doesn’t. Please, let it not be him, it can’t be him-’

“I don’t think he did it, Kags, The Hanyou had no reasons to kill Dad. He didn’t even know him. I mean, there’s a lot of people who can be admired and known, right? It could be anyone...like...like...hell I don’t know...like Mr. Akura! There. He is known and admired isn’t he?”

“Yes but he is not one of the suspects, he’s the witness...” A thought was forming in Kagome’s head, something that hadn’t occurred to her ‘till then.

“Well, but he is admired and known. And he knew Dad...You know, I never liked him, I never understood why Dad did business with him.”

As Sota talked without realizing the ramifications of his words Kagome was shocked. ‘Holly shit! Sota is right! How didn’t I think about Akura... He was there, he supposedly ‘saw’ the whole thing. Okay Higurashi, don’t get carried away. So maybe he is admired and such, that doesn’t mean that he is guilty... No, not guilty but it sure makes him a suspect in my eyes...What if he is working with The Hanyou or Naraku? But if he was working with The Hanyou, why would he say he did it? So that leaves Naraku...But he could have double-crossed The Hanyou. And what about this Nabiki girl... Damn, my head throbs.’

“Hey Sota, when do you begin classes?” She asked just to get of the subject.

“Huh? Oh, ah, actually classes began last week, so I should probably start tomorrow.” Seeing Kagome’s confused face he said, “the admission letter came at a bad time with all the stuff going on about Dad and afterwards Nabiki became ‘Glen Close’ and I completely forgot about school. That is, until Mom asked me about it last week which made me click... that’s why I didn’t say anything about it before now,” finished with a embarrassed smile.

‘Oh Sota...’ She thought lovingly, and feeling the tears pricking at her eyes she blinked them away and said smiling softly, “Alright! Tomorrow then. You can sleep on the couch tonight, and tomorrow you can buy a bed and use the other room.”

“Sure no prob.”

“So, I forgot to go to the store. Pizza?”

“Yes, I saw you fridge. Really pathetic, Kags.”

“Give me a brake will you? I just moved in.” Now that everything was back to normal, she would put the new disturbing thoughts to rest until she was on her own, she didn’t want to worry Sota. After ordering, they put the dishes and glasses on the kitchen counter and sat to wait for the pizza. Thirty minutes later they were devouring as if they hadn’t eaten in days while talking.

“Hey, you never told me how you got in.”

“Ahh... Well I met a woman at the building’s door and she asked me who I was looking for and I answered you and she let me in.”

“Just like that?” She frowned. ‘Security rocks in this building.’

“Yeah, and she had this really big white dog, he was really cool.”

“White dog?” Her head snapped up, looking at her brother. ‘Woman? What woman? He has a girlfriend? Hold it Kagome, you don’t know if it’s his dog, it could belong to anyone.’

“Yeah, his name was Zoltan, cool name, isn’t it? Hungarian. I know ‘cause the woman told me. She is your neighbor I think.”

‘Neighbor my ass. The bastard! How dared he! He is living with someone, or at least seeing her.’ “So, Sota, tell me” she said clearing her throat, “this woman... she told you who she was?”

“What?” He didn’t pay attention as he was chewing a piece of yummy cheesy pizza in his mouth. He was so hungry. After all it was Kagome’s fault, she was the one with nothing in the fridge.

“Sota! Focus! Who was the woman with the dog?”

“I don’t know Kagome I wasn’t listening to her ramblings. She came in the elevator with me and went into the apartment across from this.”

“You saw her enter? With a key?” She was so furious, how could have she been so naive. Of course he had a lady lover! He was gorgeous, but that didn’t give him the right to go and flirt with her, flirt! Jerk! He’d even had the nerve to invite her dinner-

“Of course she had a key, Kagome, how else would she had entered the apartment?” he said matter-of-fact, while rolling his eyes as if she was the dumbest person of earth.

“Well, you had no key an came in, didn’t you?” she snapped.

“Aahh, weeeell...that’s different, ‘cause- ‘cause I...”

“Yes?” She asked, her stormy eyes narrowing dangerously. “You picked the lock didn’t you?”

“Eeer... Well! I’m beat, I’m going to bed. Night.” And thus he ran to the bathroom and locked himself up.

“I should really lock you up, you know!” She yelled after him. ‘So, he’s with a woman... Well, what the hell do I care? I have bigger problems to waste time on a man, even if that man has one of the best physics I’ve ever seen and a pair of eyes to die for as well as his smile-’ “Okay! Get over it already!” She muttered.

She saw what was left of the pizza and the dirty dishes and everything, but she wasn’t feeling up to do some order. Her ankle had begun to pain and she was tired, the side of her face where that bastard had punched her hurt and to top it all her brain was full of thoughts. Thoughts waltzing through her mind, going from her father’s death, to his suspected killers and the new possibility of another suspect, to then jump to her brother only to end on her idiot of a neighbor whom had so conveniently forgotten to inform her about his girlfriend.

“To hell with them all. I’m going to bed!” She said out loud and proceeded to limp towards her bedroom.

Trying to fight the overpowering smells of sweat and smoke and the deafening noise of the people gathered at the pub, Inuyasha sat drinking his bear, listening to Miroku ramble about, what else but women of course, and Sango more specifically.

“So, you see man, she’s actually in to me. No matter how much she tries to deny it.” He concluded sipping his bear.

“Miroku.”

“Yes?”

“As much as you keep repeating it like a mantra to yourself it’s not gonna happen unless you do something about it,” Inuyasha said as he chewed a chip.

“Well, what do you want me to do, the woman has built an unbreakable wall around her.”

“You could finally tell her you love her...”

“I can’t tell her I love her, she’d never believe me and reject me. She has to say it first.”

“Maybe if you’d stop feeling women up, she would give you the time of the day and believe you.”

“I don’t feel women up. I’m just friendly. There’s nothing wrong in being friendly with them, right? Besides, you know it’s like a compulsion, I can’t help it.”

“Oh please, not even you believe that.” He said as he rolled his eyes.

Miroku coughed uncomfortably. “Anyway. I have information about Naraku.” He lowered his voice knowing he would listen anyhow.

“Tell me,” he demanded seriously.

“I have reasons to suspect that the man who attacked Kagome last night was sent by Naraku.”

“Why?”

“Well, isn’t he our other suspect to Higurashi Kenosa’s death? Used to frame you?”

“Yes. But that doesn’t mean he sent him. Why would he want to hurt Kagome?” Inuyasha asked.

“Don’t know. But I do know that Kalos didn’t do it on his own. He never worked at the moving agency, so how would he know she was moving...”

“Maybe you’re right. But it doesn’t answer my question of why would he want to hurt her. No one suspects of him, except us and...”

“Kagome,” they both finished at the same time.

Inuyasha frowned. “Yeah. Actually, now that I think about it, don’t you find it a bit odd that she suspects him when everybody thinks The Hanyou did it?”

“Perhaps she knows something. I mean, I read her file and she’s been investigating him from quite some time now, maybe she discovered something and Naraku wants it buried. You know Naraku, he doesn’t like snoops.”

Inuyasha snorted. “I know. I’ll keep an eye on her just in case.”

“As The Hanyou?”

“And as Kawamoto Inuyasha too.” He said with a smirk.

“Oh, so that’s how it is.” Miroku said smiling lecherously.

“Don’t start. Anything else for me?”

“Yeah, I heard Sango talk with one of her men. They are searching for Naraku’s hide out, as usual, but this time they have a lead. They are looking for it at pier 58, an old warehouse. It seems that some weird noises were reported several times.”

“Weird noises?”

“Yes. Couldn’t hear anymore ‘cause they were walking out the office and they would have seen me.”

“Okay.” He said as he continued sipping his beer. They always did the info exchange at the pub, because it was the least expected place and they could relax while doing it. Inuyasha, who was seating in facing the door, suddenly raised his brows while trying to hide a smile. Miroku seeing his friend’s expression lifted a brow.

“What?”

“Oh, nothing, just looking people go by. I think you should turn around, though, you might find this interesting.”

“Is she beautiful? I’ll go right there and-” He stopped mid sentence, his eyes widening and jaw nearly touching the floor as he watched stunned at the female who had just entered the pub. She was breathtakingly gorgeous, with legs that seemed to never end in those high heels and a body to match the most demanding male fantasy... and she was not alone. As fast as his eyes had widened they narrowed. “Who the hell is he??? And what is she wearing???” He demanded nearly growling.

Inuyasha smirked. ‘Ahh, sweet revenge at last,’ he thought as he remembered his reaction at Miroku’s comment on Kagome and Koga and the psychologist tease manner.

“I believe, he is her date and she is wearing a, might I add skin tight, short black dress,” he said with laughter in his voice.

“I don’t know how you can take it so calmly.” He said, furiously as he watched the couple sit at a table and order, his lips pressed tightly. “I’m going over there,” Miroku said as he began standing never taking his eyes off the couple.

“Hold it! Miroku, don’t make a scene. She can do whatever she wants, you know?”

“To hell with that!”

“Well, well, well, aren’t we acting mighty possessive on the lady captain.”

Inuyasha’s snide comment broke through the red haze that had come over Miroku’s brain. He plopped on his chair, surprise showing on his face.

“What-what the hell was that? I was acting like-like-”

“A jealous man?”

“I was gonna say you, but yeah, it’s the same thing.”

“Hey!”

“Well, you are the possessive one here not me. I’m the civilized, rational one, I don’t get raging anger and mad jealousy.” He said as he turned his head back to where Sango was seating smiling, her beautiful wine-red smile, at that bastard. He turned back towards Inuyasha.

“Mmm, apparently you do now.”

“I have to go. I can’t sit idle here and see her with that man, hear her laugh and flirt with him. Who is he anyhow?” Now he was calm, he began thinking what to do.

“Don’t know. By the Armani suit he’s wearing I would say an executive of some sort, and a successful at that.” Inuyasha seeing his friend’s confused and sad face, took pity on him, after all, he understood better than anyone how the man was feeling now. “Hey, it doesn’t have to mean anything, you know, it’s just a date Miro, they are not getting married or anything.”

“M-Married. My Sango married?” He said as he sighed dejectedly.

‘Ok, not the smartest thing to say Kawamoto.’ “Miro, c’mon! Don’t be such a drama queen, err king.”

“By Buddha! I’m becoming you!” Miroku said, amazed and appalled.

“I am not a drama que-king!” Inuyasha snapped indignantly.

Miroku sighed again. “Yes you are, but anyway, we’re done for the night. Could we go? I feel like going home and meditate.”

“Sure. Want company?”

“Naah, that’s fine, I’ll like to be alone to think about this reaction and everything.”

“Kay. Lets go.”

As they paid and walked to the door they didn’t noticed the woman’s sad eyes following them or better said staring longingly at one of them, as they walked through the door. Nor they noticed the disappointment that was quickly hidden when she turned back to her companion.

*****

Something startled her awake, every instinct in her screaming in warning. She kept her eyes closed as she heard carefully to that which had awoken her. There was someone in her room...Sota? No. Someone else. Slowly she began to move her hand underneath the pillow for her gun when the intruder spoke.

“I wouldn’t do that if I were you.” Kagome froze. “Now, very slowly take your hand from under the pillow and put both of them above your head where I can see them.”

Kagome slowly began doing what was told to her to do and put both her hands to the sides of her face. “What do you want?” she asked amazingly calm. She knew he was not a common burglar if he was waiting for her to awake.

“Why Kagome, you’re just as rude as your father was, it must run in the family.”

She stiffened. “I know who you are, you bastard,” her voice trembling with rage.

“Really? I know who I am too,” he said mockingly, “but regretfully, this isn’t a social visit.”

“What do you want?” She repeated calmly, while her mind went haywire. ‘Oh God! Sota! He’s sleeping on the couch, please if there is a god out there anywhere, don’t let him wake and come in here.’ She thought desperately as she began to realize she wasn’t going to see her family again, for he was here to kill her.

“Impatient little thing you are. Fine, if you want it this way, I’ll make haste. Where are they?” He asked, and Kagome could notice the fanaticism in his voice. The man was insane and wouldn’t hesitate on killing her...

Just as he killed her father. The thought came as fast as lighting.

“Where’s what?”

“Tell me where they are. You know what I’m talking about.” His voice was coming closer with each word, soon he would be beside her, on top of her.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” She said stubbornly.

“You know, I am going to get real pleasure out of braking your pretty little neck, that of course after I’ve tortured you in every possible way.”

“I’m not afraid of you, Naraku,” she said bravely, her voice wavering a bit.

“Mmm.” He bent down over her and she could feel his breath on her cheek and neck as he inhaled deeply. “I can smell your fear. Is it for you or for your little brother I wonder?”

Kagome gasped inwardly, her hands clamping in tight fists, her knuckles white. ‘Sota!’ “You touch him and you die, bastard.”

He laughed, a throaty, rusty laugh that made Kagome nauseated. “I had understood that you’ve always had a fling for The Hanyou.” He said changing the subject. Kagome was silent. “How does it feel,” he whispered in her ear, with sickening husky voice, “to have your hero, your dream man –or should I say beast– kill your own father?” As he spoke his lips kept grazing her jaw and cheek, and Kagome closed her eyes trying to erase the feeling of his depraved touch from her mind. She heard him chuckle when she failed to answer.

“Tsk, tsk, tsk, poor poor Kagome, such a waste you had to find the letters,” he finished with fake regret before grabbing a handful of her hair and tugging painfully hard. “Where are they?”

‘What letters? What is he talking about??’ “Fuck you.” She said through greeted teeth. And before he could react she bucked her head backwards and hit him right on the nose bone.

“BITCH!” His grip on her hair loosened a bit and she twisted, elbowing him on the stomach in the process, grabbing her gun and jumping out of reach, the pain in her ankle forgotten as the adrenaline ran through her when she turned around and faced him.

“You fucking bas-” she stopped as she looked around the room and found herself alone, the curtains of her balcony dancing with the wind that came through the now open French doors.

The bastard had escaped.

She let out a shaky breath as she leaned on the wall, relief going through her at the thought of Sota’s safety now that the monster was gone, when suddenly a movement from outside snapped her back to action. Raising her gun and pointing towards the balcony she said with fury and hate, “I’m going to blow your head off, you son of a bitch!”

“Well then, I guess there wont be any ‘hello’ kiss tonight.” The husky voice replied as it’s owner walked in, when an unexpected, though not strange at all scent hit his nose and growled, a dark threatening growl that sent shivers through Kagome. “Naraku.”

A/N: I know...boring chapter but I promise to make next one extra juicy for you my fateful readers.
I have a small question for you that has nothing to do with the story, but it has been nagging me since forever, have you guys ever noticed that in the Anime Kikyo uses the longbow and Kagome the short one...Why is that? I mean, give Kagome the same bow dammit, longbows reach so much farther than the short ones, that it’s not fair. Anyway I have been wondering that since the beginning of the show.

See you next chapter people. And I’ll try to make it fast but you have to understand that I have to think really carefully what is going to happened and this baby doesn’t always obey my orders so, please I ask for your patience and besides I began working again, this time as a secretary, soooo, you’ll have to wait a bit for next chap.

Thank you and don’t forget to REVIEW!!! Ja!
