Disclaimer note: I don't own Inuyasha *SOB*!

A/N: Thanks, guys, for the reviews and well wishes to my kids! My son and daughter say hey and thanks! This next chapter is after the jewel is shattered and when Shippo starts traveling with them. I didn't quite see all of what happened in that episode.

Chapter 7: Memories

"How could you be so stupid?" Inuyasha demanded. Kagome's jaw dropped in shock. "Look, it happened last week, so why don't you drop it?" she snapped back. "Now I have to hunt jewel shards thanks to you," he grumbled. Yasha, who had remained silent through the entire thing, looked at Myoga, a flea in charge of guarding her grandfather's grave, who sat on her shoulder. "Who do you think will win this one?" she asked in a bored voice. "My guess..." he began and she looked at him. "Kagome," they said together. Shippo, a new member of the group and a small fox demon, looked at them. "Seems rather direct, doesn't it?" he asked. "You have to understand adults to get to what they believe," she said. "See, Papa always cocks an attitude at people and Kagome's kind hearted. It's always kindness that wins."

"SIT BOY!" Kagome shouted causing Inuyasha to slam into the ground. "Or that necklace around his neck," Yasha sighed narrowing her eyes. "Come on, Shippo. We'd better let them duel this out alone." "Should I come with you?" Myoga asked frowning. "No thank you," Shippo said. "We can handle ourselves." The two walked off to the meadow Yasha used to play in fifty years ago. She sighed as she looked around. "I remember this place," she said. "I used to play here constantly." He followed her to a beat up shack full of cobwebs and other things. She pushed the broken door open and looked around. "You used to live here?" he asked and she nodded.

"This was our home," she said in a quiet voice. "I've almost forgotten." She stepped over some fallen rafters and found her old room. "This was my room," she said. "Papa's bed was right there. I remember getting up every morning to find him making breakfast or he was still asleep." "What do you remember the day Kikyo died?" he asked gently. She sighed heavily. "Papa was up very early that morning. I was confused since he seemed eager to go to the village for some reason. The only village close to us was the one Aunt Kaede lives in now. Anyway, I went outside to play while he promised to be back before lunch. Lunchtime came and he didn't show up. I got curious and headed to the village when the scent of blood nearly caused me to throw up since it was so strong. It was like death, but instead of one, two had died. I had no idea it was Kikyo or that my father was pinned to the tree." "What did you do when you found out?" he asked sitting on a piece of wood studying her as she sat on a stool. "It was Aunt Kaede that took me to see Papa," she said seriously. "I had to be hidden because the whole village wanted to kill me due to what happened. She took me to the temple and the monk there placed me under a sp" S" She removed a medallion from inside her kimono and showed it to him. "He gave me this before he died," she said. "Now you use it to hide the jewel shards when we get them," he chuckled.

"Who would know this thing would come in handy?" she said smiling faintly. She opened the secret compartment and studied the shards. Then she closed it and looked at him. "I wish things were back to normal at times," she said seriously. "But I like things now because I'm feeling accepted due to being hanyou." He walked to her nodding. "Yasha, since we're alone, there's something I want to tell you," he said nervously. She looked at him frowning. "I know I've been with you guys not long and all, but I know I have to get this off my chest," he said. "Yasha, when I first saw you, I thought you were beautiful. I'm in love with you." She studied him with narrowed eyes. "If they found out about that, they'd think you're crazy since we're so young," she pointed out. He chuckled. "I don't care," he said. "At least I said it." She blushed. "I don't know what to say," she stammered. "You don't have to say anything since your eyes tell me," he said smiling. He moved closer to her and studied her. "Can I kiss you?" he asked. She nodded as he leaned over and brushed his lips on hers in a gentle kiss.

When he pulled away, she was frozen in shock. "I've never been kissed like that," she admitted and he smiled. "Yasha, Shippo, where the hell are you two?" a voice asked outside. She swallowed hard as he moved and they ran outside to find Inuyasha walking up the path. "Where's Kagome?" she asked. "She went home," he said seriously. "I was just showing Shippo where we used to live," she said causing him to nod in understanding. "I wish you and Kagome would quit fighting constantly," Shippo said seriously. "We need her here." "Yeah," Yasha said seriously. "She's the only one here with enough sense to help find the shards." "What's that supposed to mean?" Inuyasha asked frowning. "I believe what she means is that she's telling you that your attitude isn't what she calls stable enough to locate shards," Myoga said causing Yasha to glare at him. "I never said that!" she snapped. "What I mean is Kagome is special to me and Shippo and we want her back without someone constantly causing her to leave because he has a smart attitude!" She walked off with a huff.

"Well, excuse me," the old flea grumbled. "Seems like some of your attitude has rubbed off on her." "Not unless she wants something," Inuyasha sighed. "She has a point." "Then stop being such a jackass and get Kagome!" Shippo shouted causing Inuyasha to hit him in the head. "YASHA!" he cried and Yasha turned around. She growled suddenly shouting out SIT BOY causing Inuyasha to hit the ground hard. "I didn't know you could do that!" Shippo gasped in shock as her eyes widened. "I didn't either," she said. "It just sounded like the thing to say." "Uh oh!" he gulped. "He's up and mad!" "RUN!" she shouted and they ran off as Inuyasha chased them.

That night as the kids slept, Inuyasha lay on his mat holding Tetsusaiga and sighed. It seemed lonely without Kagome around. He sat up and quietly left the hut running to the Bone Eaters Well to retrieve Kagome and hopefully the journey could work once again.
