CHAPTER 69: A PROMISE TO TELL
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kagome was just inches from the door handle at the end of the hall when she was completely enclosed in darkness. Her hands beseechingly reached out and felt the smooth cold metal of the door. She prayed with such fervent reverence that her small hands would come in contact with the rounded knob that would grant her release. The darkness was like a thick fog that was choking, stifling. Yet, it wasn’t fog but miasma. Kagome became aware that she could feel her lungs burn with every breath she took. It felt like her lungs were being incinerating.
“Ka-go-meeeee.”
Her ears picked up the ghostly tune of her name. ‘No, no.’ Kagome screamed into the darkness that was like a thick fog that seemed to make her choke with every breath she took. Finally, kami must have heard her prayers because her nimble fingers brushed lightly against the door handle.
“Are you trying to leave me?” Naraku’s voice was so close was that it was like he was breathing on her neck.
The fates must have pitied her because as she tightened her hold and the handle and turned.
Inuyasha swore he’d never seen Kikyou turn red with rage in all his time with her. It was as if that small statement had been all it took to send her into a full blown rage. It was frightening.
“What old man?!” Came the high pitched scream that reviled a banshee. Kikyou all but lunged at the priest with her blood red manicured nails at the ready. She took a swipe at the balding geezers head but felt strong arms wrap around her waist and held her back. This prevented any harm to come to Gramps from her hands.
“Kikyou what the hell are you doing?”
“Listen you old senile, crazed, conniving…”
Gramps stepped back in surprise, but had been waiting for the witch to explode. He had been taunting her, baiting her, and all but blatantly delayed the marriage. Gramps would have congratulated himself, but figured that would only service to infuriate her even more, so Gramps just smiled.
“Let me go Inuyasha! I’m going kill that priest! He’s been insulting me all day. That geezer is just pissed because I’m marrying you instead of his grand-daughter! Well, I’m not sorry that she couldn’t keep you. He’s mine! I’m marrying him. Not your precious Kagome! That tramp has already slept her way to the top.”
That did it for Gramps. He opened his mouth and let them have it. “Listen here you vile witch! I mean it when I say you don’t deserve to ever get married, even to Inuyasha. You are nothing but a mere shadow of what Kagome is, and even then…”
Inuyasha continued to hold Kikyou back but growled at Gramps’ words towards his fiancée. “Watch it old man.”
“And you mutt face! Listen and listen well. You will never know what Kagome did for you! She saved you and your company from its emanate doom. Kagome’s selflessness saved your ass.” Gramps was so livid that the vein in his forehead was popping out. He turned to leave the two in the shrine but before he could even make it out the sliding door Inuyasha’s stopped him.
“What do you mean Kagome saved me and my company!”
Gramps froze, with as much suave as he could muster he turned back around. Gramps promised to tell them, to tell them all.
Ayame burst through the doors of the security department clutching her side. She sprinted as fast as she could which caused her to have a painful pinch in her side. Ayame hoped that the team hadn’t left yet. She knew that this bit of information was going to cause quiet an up roar but something had to be done.
Within the security room the youkais were still crowded around the table deep in conversation. The men where interrupted when the door came flying open with amazing speed startling them all.
“Ayame, what is the cause for this out burst?” Sesshoumaru questioned with an intense face.
Ayame inhaled sharply while trying to form a fluent sentence. “Mr… Masarau… Inuyasha is… marrying… Kikyou… now.” The words came in short bursts with deep breaths.
If Sesshoumaru was tense now, this information only added to the stress he was now feeling. His eyes narrowed. “Where?”
“The Higurashi Shrine.”
“WHAT!” all the men shouted in disbelief and outrage, yet Sesshoumaru however remained quiet. He would have laughed at the irony of it all but knew better against it. That idiot brother of his was marrying the whore of Naraku and didn’t even know it. Let him, but before he does he should at least now about Kikyou’s other ventures. “Ayame.”
“Yes, Mr. Masarau.”
“I want you to up link the video footage that Samou sent us to Inuyasha’s cell phone. Make sure it is a looped footage that runs from the beginning til’ the end, and then over again.” A cruel smile came to him. Inuyasha’s wench would obtain the shock of her life when his brother received that video uplink on his cell phone. Sesshoumaru almost wished he could be there to see the look on Inuyasha’s face when he saw the betrayal play out on his cell phone. The one he chose over Kagome was the one that was that would make him miserable. He was happy for his brother ignorance, for it only benefited him. Kagome became his wife from Inuyasha’s mistake, and she was the love of his life though he never verbalized it. He would he told himself, he promised himself that he would tell Kagome the moment she was safely back in his arms. Sesshoumaru turned his back to Ayame dismissing her to do her task. Sesshoumaru’s golden eyes looked at the men standing before him as he spoke. “We move out.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kagome opened the door down the dark hallway and let herself in. She never thought about what lurked on the other side. All she could think about was getting away from the imminent evil behind her. Kagome locked the door and rested her back against the cold metal door. She sighed a breath of relief. ‘He didn’t get me. I won’t let him.’ Kagome’s thought to herself. ‘Hurry Sesshoumaru.’

*Bang, bang, bang!*

“Augh!!!” Kagome screamed as the door that she rested her back against reverberated with powerful force. Kagome moved with speed away from the door turning back to it. Her now cobalt eyes were full of fear when she heard Naraku’s voice on the other side of the door.

“Kagome?” Naraku hissed. “Open the door and I will have mercy on you for running away from me.”

Kagome held her breath not wanting to breathe. She feared that it would give her away even more. The light within the room she barricaded herself in revealed a small confining office no bigger then a closet and it had no windows. A metal desk was located in the middle of the cramped room along with a chair. The space was quickly beginning to feel like a mausoleum to Kagome. She darted a glance up and there on the ceiling was a small ventilation duct. It gave her an idea.

Naraku’s clawed hand scratched deep against the metal door. It made an ungodly noise that sent sparks flying everywhere. He smiled with the thought of entombing his little miko in the room. That one room was like a coffin. There was no way out.

Kagome jumped with that ear piercing noise that came across like nails on a chalk board but five time worse. It scared her. That made Kagome even more determined to carry out her plan. She made her way to the desk and climbed on top.

“Kagome,” Naraku called out “there is no way out, so why don’t you save yourself the trouble and come out.”

Kagome stretched out as tall as she could to reach the ventilation shaft, however; she could barely touch it. She refused to answer Naraku. Kagome looked around frantically when she heard the door handle giggle again. ‘I just need something, anything that will give me an extra boost.’ Kagome thoughts raced. Then she looked down and saw the chair. ‘That’s it!’

Naraku could feel his temperature lifting off. Kagome dare defy him. Doesn’t she realized that there is no way out. He clenched his fist so tightly that Naraku drew his own blood. Next, he pounded his fist violently into the metal door.

“Agh!”

Naraku heard Kagome scream out loud. He smiled to himself malevolently. ‘If the mountain won’t go to you, you must go to the mountain.’ Naraku turned and left the pitch black corridor with one thing in mind. ‘Master key.’

Kagome jumped off the desk and landed with a quiet thud. She went for the chair and picked it up the chair and lifted it onto the desk. Kagome climbed back on the desk and with a steady balance climbed onto the chair. Her head almost hit the ceiling as she extended her body up straight. Kagome’s finger gentle brushed against the vent. She found the ridge of the metal vent and popped it out. A spark of hope lit up in Kagome as she stepped off the chair with the vent in her hands. The size of the squared hole in the ceiling was about 4 feet by 3 feet. It was big enough for Kagome to crawl through. The lights flickered in the office room Kagome was in. “No. Please not know.” She dropped the vent to the floor and returned her attention back to her escape route.
Author’s Note: *smiles goofishly* well I guess I answer a few questions that I’ve received about this story.

The BOMB: the bomb was detonated by Samou when he thought he wasn’t going to make it out of Naraku’s complex.

The ring: The ring that Sesshoumaru gave to Kagome once belonged to his mother, but upon her death the ring became enchanted to protect whomever Sesshoumaru gave it to.
