CHAPTER 67: VOICE MAIL
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Naraku was taken by surprise as a bright light radiating from the lifeless women on the desk. Then, in a blink of an eye he was thrown violently back into the nearest wall. He didn’t have anytime to reaction or defend himself when his entire body hit the hard wall with a sickening crack. The white wall splintered under the sheer force sending specks of a white chalky substance floating through the air. Naraku lost consciousness on impact. His body slid down revealing a large indentation in the wall.
Deep in her mind it was still a little fuzzy as Kagome swore she heard Sesshoumaru. But, now Kagome couldn’t sense him and it left her empty. The feeling had returned to her body except for the fact that her right foot still felt like it was asleep, and was painfully tingling. It was like a thousand sharp needles had been inserted into the foot.
Kagome eyes snapped open when she heard the sound of a body hitting a wall very, very hard. Her stormy blue eyes focus in on where the sound came from. Kagome’s heart swelled with the recognition that he was not awake. She was still lying on the desk but she wasn’t sure how she got there. Kagome sluggishly rolled over to her side and placed her feet on the ground. Her heartbeat picked up when she heard Naraku moan. Kagome readied herself while her hand rested on her rapidly beating heart. She wasn’t sure if she made a wild dash for the door that Naraku would come out of his unconscious stupor and go after her. With that thought, Kagome, as quietly as she could she pushed off the desk to stand on her feet. Her eyes all but focused on the door. The tangible object would lead her out of this hellish prison, and right now it was all her mind could think of. Unfortunately, after the first couple step toward her desperately wanted freedom Kagome’s right foot gave out on her. She only had enough time to turn slightly before she hit the floor.
*Thump*
Sesshoumaru felt a hand on his shoulder while his head was still hanging low into the toilet. He was fighting the urge to throw up but swallowed hard the bitter bile that rose within his throat. ‘Kagome…’
“Are you okay sir?” Bankotsu asked.
Sesshoumaru growled but nodded. He still was a little shaky after what happened. He picked himself of the floor inside that small bathroom stall. He still had that light headed feeling as he walked out of the bathroom stalk. That vile aftertaste made Sesshoumaru go to the bathroom sink and turn the water on. His hand cupped the cold water as he splashed it into his face and brought another hand full of water to his lips.
Bankotsu watched his employer via the mirror as he continued to wash his face off. It was like he was trying to snap himself out of a strange state of mind. “Uh, sir, the men are ready to move out…” Bankotsu was cut off by a beeping noise coming for Sesshoumaru’s pocket.
*beep, beep, beep*
At first Sesshoumaru looked a little confused but then the vibration of Kagome’s cellular phone brought his hand to his side pocket and clamped down on it. It gradually came to him that his wife’s phone was still with him. He shoved his hand inside to with retrieve the phone he had forgotten until now. Sesshoumaru golden eyes looked upon the small screen flashing, ‘New voice mail.’ He pressed the center button so that it would call the voice mail and retrieve the message, however; there was a slight problem.
“Welcome to your voice mail center. Please enter your personal password.” Came the animated female voice.
Sesshoumaru clenched the cell phone tight in his clawed hand. ‘Damn it!’ he thought as his long nails marred the plastic casing. Sesshoumaru turned back to Bankotsu and tossed the phone at him. “Take this to decoding and have them break the password for the voice mail. Then we will leave.” He needed to know who called her. Maybe it was Kagome. No one knew she was abducted, at least not yet. Sesshoumaru didn’t want to worry her family or friends. Yet, when he heard Kagome in his mind, her tone seemed alarmed. Kagome’s words seemed to tear at his every core of his existence. ‘He killed her… He killed your mother.’ The red that flashed in his eyes was like a fire rivaling the flames of hell. ‘Danger… Inuyasha.’
Bankotsu caught the phone in his hand while he watched interestingly at Sesshoumaru with guarded eyes. He noticed how his entire demeanor changed within an instant. Bankotsu sensed as dramatic change in the Lord of the Western Lands. He went from cold and distant to methodical and deadly. Better yet, lethal. Bankotsu had to fight of the shiver that went down his spine.
Sesshoumaru knuckles cracked as he made a fist. He looked hard into the mirror, but when he did so he didn’t see his reflect. Instead he saw the crimson-eyed Naraku.
*CRACK*
The mirror shattered into hundred of piece on impact leaving a bizarre web of splintered lines dancing about the mirror. From an angle, one could see a hundred crimson eyes reflecting with a deadly blood lust.
“GO!”
18:20, 18:19, 18:18… Tick tock went the digital bomb clock. (author’s note: just so you know the time above is hours, not minutes)
Kikyou reached to the crest of the almost never ending stairs and brought a hand up to shield her eyes from the rays of light blinding her. Her white dress fluttered in the breeze as her chocolate brown eyes made out a figure walking toward her. Kikyou could only imagine how she looked at the moment when she realized it was Inuyasha coming toward her. He had a goof look on his face like he had seen a vision of an angel. She contained a giggle as he drew near. ‘Me, an angel? Hahaha!’ Kikyou laughed at the thought.
“Kiki-sweets.” Inuyasha called out as he reached for her. He was completely taken in by her. Inuyasha hazel eyes burned at the sight of her before him. The white wedding dress that fluttered in the breeze gave way for a nice view of long lean legs.
Kikyou’s fingers laced with in his. “Are you ready Yashie?”
He nodded in her agreement at her question and led Kikyou to the front of the shrine entrance. There was Gramps patiently waited for the pair to come to him. He scratched his baldhead and sighed. ‘Guess he is serious about marrying that witch.’ He thought to himself. ‘Well, I’m not going to make this ceremony easy for them.’ Gramps chuckled.
“Ah, the happy couple is here at last.” He stood up and bowed to them. “Before we start the ceremony there are a few… uh… ancient marriage rituals that need to be performed.”
Kikyou and Inuyasha just looked at each a little dumbfounded but nodded. Both of them thinking how bad could it possibly be?
“Follow me.” Gramps turned and led the couple back up the steps of the shrine. As he reached the doors he paused before opening the door and began chanting a mantra. “May all those unworthy and impure, be smighted for entering into this holy place.”
Those words were meant to scare the witch on Inuyasha’s arm. Gramps could feel her evil aura coming off her in enormous waves. The bad vibes were affecting the chi of the shrine. This marriage wouldn’t be blessed by the spirits of the past. And if he could help it, it would never happen.
