The Seven: Wanted Dead or Alive
Chapter 62: His mother's son
Title: His mother's son
Prompt and Word Count: Melody-413
Characters: Jakotsu
Prompt Summary: Jakotsu meets the sheriff who found him as a child.
Having too much on his mind as he made his way over to the sheriff's office, Jakotsu didn't even notice the man sitting on the stairs as he passed playing a harmonica or the melody that he created. Too busy thinking about the next course of action for them if his poster was up, he didn't even notice the sheriff coming out to stand beside him as his eyes skimmed over the posters.
Breathing a sigh of relief when he didn't see it, Jakotsu was about to take a step backward when someone cleared their voice. Whirling around startled, Jakotsu placed his hand on his chest as he tried to calm down. "Pardon me, sheriff, you startled me. Actually I was just coming to see you," Jakotsu informed him, not missing the dubious look in the sheriff's eyes. He had obviously heard his sigh of relief.
"Oh I was just making sure it wasn't the right guy," Jakotsu began to explain as he gestured over his shoulder at the wall of posters. "In the last town I lived in, we had the same poster and I thought I saw one of the outlaws on the way here, but I had remembered his face completely wrong," he fibbed before turning his full attention to the sheriff with a polite, but non-flirting smile.
"My name is Jakotsu and I used to live just outside of town with my mother. I'm not sure if you remember me," Jakotsu continued, after giving the sheriff a once over and realizing he was old enough to have been the one to find him that day; not that he actually remembered what the sheriff looked like.
"The little boy that was abandoned at Miss Abi's homestead? Has it really been so long that you're a grown man now?" the sheriff asked in disbelief as he gave Jakotsu a once over himself; finally really seeing the man that stood before him. "It's been so long that I had nearly forgotten all about'cha. What brings you back out this way?"
"I'm actually just passing through and thought I would stay at the homestead while I'm here, but it dawned on me that I had no idea if momma ever sold it. You wouldn't happen to know, do ya?" Jakotsu wondered; even though it was obvious no one had been in the house since he left, he didn't want to take the chance of pissing someone off if they did own it now.
