"Ten dollars?" Jakotsu nearly shouted as he glanced down at the few items he had and did a rough estimate of how much he should be spending right now. 'Buck eighty for the flour, a buck and a nickel for the sugar, about forty cents for the lard, thirty-five for the coffee and maybe a buck fifty for the cloth. That's only around five dollars.' "That's double the normal price," Jakotsu insisted after he was finished mentally adding it up himself.

"And that's what happens when the stage coaches carrying the supplies keep getting held up before they can get to town. We haven't had a shipment get here in over a month. I gotta hire some protection just to get a small shipment in before this town starves to death; and that costs a pretty penny. Take it or leave it; your choice," the merchant insisted and having no other choice, Jakotsu forked over the ten dollars before heading back out of the market.

As he subtly counted the change left without take it out of his coin purse, Jakotsu quickly realized they would run out of money rather quickly and starve to death if something wasn't done. But worrying about that would have to wait until later as he spotted the sheriff's office and began making his way over to the wanted posters.
