Safe with Wolves

Author's Note: I'm trying to make longer chapters, I am but if I'm failing, please forgive me! Anyways, I hope you guys and enjoying this so far! Can't wait to see what you all say about this story so far!

Amber eyes opened and stared at the cave wall. Arms were still wrapped around him, keeping him warmth. Shippo was gone from his own arms and he had no idea where the little kit went. He should've worried but his mind was still fogged with sleep. He wanted to go back to sleep. back to his dreams of his pack, but he felt something move and big blue eyes appeared, looking at him.

"Papa, it's time to get up." Shippo chirped, a fish in his small hands and he was chewing a chunk of it.

Inuyasha groaned quietly. "I know."

Shippo glanced over at the still sleeping Kouga before looking at Inuyasha again with a raised eyebrow.

"...Was cold..." the half-demon supplied.

"Good luck waking him up." the kit hummed before scampering off of the bed. Inuyasha sighed before rolling over and poked the leader.

"Oi, wake up ya mangy wolf."

Kouga shifted but didn't wake up, making Inuyasha growl and snap. "Wake up stupid!"

Kouga huffed sleepily. "Shut it, dog breath."

"Get ya lazy ass up. We slept in."

Kouga grunted but slipped his arms away from Inuyasha. The half-demon felt a pang at the loss at the close body and its heat before he mentally shook his head. He did not just feel that, it had to be his imagination. He just missed Kagome and the others, that's all. 

Inuyasha got up, now fully half-demon again, and made his way outside, yawning with Shippo beside him. The sun had just passed the horizon and was inching away upwards. He took a deep breath in, taking in all the scents.

Shippo jumped on his shoulder after finishing his fish, looking around and taking in the wolves that was filing out of their own dens.

"Inuyasha?" he piped up.

"Yeah, runt?"

"What are we going to do now?"

Inuyasha paused at that. He...honestly didn't think about what he'll do once he was fully healed. "I'm not sure."

"Are we going to stay? Go find some more Jewel shards?"

"I haven't thought about it."

Shippo bit his lip before taking a deep breath. "I think we should stay."

"You do?" Inuyasha blinked as he looked at Shippo.

"Yeah. Even if it's still just for a little while."

"You sure about this Shippo?"

"Uh huh. It's the only real safe place we have. Besides, I'm having fun and making friends here. It actually feels like I belong since that fight with..."

Inuyasha stared at the young demon before his eyes soften. He sighed, mumbling about him being more soft than ever before nodding. "Alright, we'll stay."

Shippo grinned and let out a happy yip which made Inuyasha smile.

Behind them, Kouga smirked at the decision before going about his duties.
