Chapter 2, Part 1 - Chance Meeting
It was 11 in the evening, and Kagome was on the parking lot, on her way to her car. She was tired, but there was a big smile on her lips. She felt great; her first day on the job went exceedingly well. Sure, she put in longer hours than she expected (seeing as it was her first day) but she handled every emergency case she got with competence and composure. She never lost her patience (or her temper, for that matter) every time she treated her patients. After seeing with their own eyes the demonstration of her abilities, every personnel in the building called her "the miracle sensei". Now they knew why the hospital very much wanted her to be on their team despite the fact that she was a 'newbie'.
Her smile got wider as she remembered the patients she's treated. Not every one was human, she was sure of that (just as some of her co-workers were). Just as she knew how surprised (and even wary) the youkai patients felt when they realized a miko was tending to them. But she was a doctor, first and foremost. She couldn't very well turn a blind eye to a demon hurting or dying while she's on duty. Besides, no one's attacked her... yet. Some of them actually thanked her, albeit grudgingly, for easing their pain. She only hoped no one had a craving for a miko as a midnight snack.
With that thought in mind, Kagome unleashed all of her sensory skills. She didn't want to be caught off-guard, and the way she spread her aura-sensing ability meant that she could probably sense if a youkai was coming for her a mile away. She stopped for a moment, and sensing no demons nearby, she breathed a sigh of relief. She was really tired to the bone, and she wasn't up to the task of 'talking' her way out of a youkai eating her. See, that's what she always does first: reasoning with them. When they don't comply and still stubbornly attacks her (after carefully explaining to the demons what would happen to them once they do, of course) that's when she pulls out the big guns. But the way she was right now, Kagome was just in no mood to play nice. And she just might skip the whole 'diplomacy' thing and get on to the purifying business ASAP, just for the hell of it. Luckily, no demon was there to try and press their luck.
Kagome was just about to slide into the driver's seat when a familiar[but unwelcome[scent reached her. Blood. And lots of it too, judging by how strong she could smell it. Someone was obviously in need of help. Cursing her rotten luck, she cast out her sensory skills again, and still found no demon. Either it wasn't a demon or it was a very skilled and powerful one. Having a bad feeling about it, she quickly moved to pop open her trunk. Kagome took out her trusty bow and arrows. Her old wooden bow was now replaced with a sleek new number (courtesy of Sango) and a series of mods, making it ideal for both melee and ranged fighting. Her arrows were now all silver-tipped ones. Yeah, it was a pain to make, seeing as silver didn't come cheap, but Sango insisted on that. She was always saying how it was always better to have a contingency plan rather than have your ass kicked. Or worse yet, killed.
Kagome also grabbed her set of silver kunai (she thought it would be best if she had it all in silver rather than have 2 varieties) and her next favorite weapon, the dual kodachi. It was a 2-piece short 'katana', if you will, employed by ancient shinobi to do their stealth killings quickly and accurately, usually by crossing the blades at the neck and decapitating an enemy. Kagome found that method extremely useful and effective when facing a vampire. The blades, of course, were made of silver. And liberally annointed with holy water every time she used it, for good measure. It never hurt to be extra-careful.
Making sure she had everything she needed, Kagome switched to what she called her 'hunter' skills.
~*~ Now working on part 2. Read on, guys. Thanx. ~*~
