Barely seventeen years ago a child was born,

unwanted out of wedlock to a woman's scorn.

His father was already married to another,

who was fated to never become a mother.

Cruelly abandoned the day she told him of their son,

she placed all of the blame on her unborn unloved one.

A childhood he would never have as she refused,

to play the only one who was ever abused.

And then it happened one day when he was about four,

he began to play with a doll found in her drawer.

Sure his strange behavior was punishment for her sin,

his mother abandoned him just as she had been.

She simply up and left in the middle of the night,

leaving her offspring with nothing but his own fright.

Left alone in a world so cruel, he remained for days,

until a bolt of lightning set the barn ablaze.

The sheriff arrived long after the damage was done,

and heard the pitiful wails of the mother's son.

As he no longer had anyone that wanted him,

already his future was looking pretty grim.

Dropped off at an orphanage he was sure to end up,

forgotten and tossed aside like an old chipped cup.

It was there that he would spend his next ten years of life,

until a boy came at him with a hunting knife.

He had merely been defending himself and they knew,

but felt that his departure was well overdue.

They had always seen him as odd and rather scary,

of his feminine tastes they were always wary.

They could not understand why a boy wanted to be

wearing dresses and playing with dolls in pure glee.

And so from yet another home he was tossed aside,

all because one day he wanted to be a bride.

Without a guardian he was thrust into the world,

before his adult life had even been unfurled.

With no better plan in mind he traveled west in hope

of finding some way for him to begin to cope.

In a quiet town he found a place for him to stay,

until he could save some money to make his way.

Three years had passed and there he continued to remain,

his freedom he had not been able to obtain.
