Fight without Sesshomaru
The journey that took hours for Sesshomaru to make seemed like minutes to reach the village gates that he left Rin, where she collapsed in tears over him. Sesshomaru could smell the fire, blood and death that lay beyond the gates. All the emotion that rushed through Sesshomaru made him stop right in front of the gates, to brace himself for what he was going to see when he passed through. But in that moment, Jakken caught up with Sesshomaru, still eager to explain the situation to his lord, pushed himself in front of him, standing in between the entrance to the village and Sesshomaru.
“Lord Sesshomaru, please stop. You must know what happened,”
“Why does it matter, Rin was hurt, obvious by your current state.” Staring at Jakken blood stained attire.
“But you must understand” Jakken then started to explain the situation.
After Rin awoke from her rest, she met up with Jakken and Jiro in the dinning room. They were deep in conversation, when they noticed the girl walk into the room. All attention fell on her, when Jakken asked,
“Did you sleep well, Rin?”
“Yes, I’m sorry that I just disappeared like that, it has been a long day. But I promise that I will not slack off my responsibilities again.”
“Its fine Rin, Jakken and I were just talking about you. I understand your situation and want to help. The heart can withstand many tests on the path to true love. Hopefully the one you seek will return for you.”
“I don’t believe that he will return for me, but thank you for your kind words. They are really reassuring.”
“Don’t misunderstand, if it is true love. Then nothing can stand in the way of relentless pursuit.”
Rin smiled at the thought of her Sesshomaru relentlessly pursuing her. That was something that she secretly hoped that he would do. Her thoughts were interrupted when Jiro spoke again.
“I figure you will start working tomorrow, I thought that you should visit the village that you now inhabit. Jakken would like to know where you are living so that he can bring word back to your other traveling companion.”
Rin looked at Jakken, ‘what did you tell him about us?’ she thought. “That would be nice, thank you. Whenever you are ready, Jakken.” The sound of her voice was starting to sound like the happy child again.
As they left the safety of the temple to venture out to the village, Rin noticed that some of the young men were looking at her. She figured that she better keep her sword handy when she would roam the village alone. She wasn’t going to be taken advantage of here. Rin then turned her attention back to Jakken who had stopped.
“What’s wrong Jakken?” Rin asked hushed.
“Something in the air doesn’t feel right. Keep on your guard Rin, I feel as if we are in the presences of an ominous spirit.”
“Is it a demon? Should we prepare to fight?”
“Be still Rin, I just said to stay on guard.”
For moment time stood still, there Rin was without Sesshomaru to protect her, was she ready to handle what ever it was that was that coming toward this village. That’s when Jakken’s staff of skulls started to react, leading the pair toward the center of town. By this time they noticed that many of the males in the village were armed with their bow and arrows and running in the same direction the staff was sending them. Jakken stopped one of the rampaging villagers and asked what was going on. The man explained that village was under siege by a shape-shifting demon that was destroying the village, and the men were protecting the temple.
When they got to the scene, there was tall serpent creature that was surrounded by the male villagers. Shooting flaming arrows at the demon. Rin placed her hand on the handle of her sword, wondering if she should unsheathe it, but then noticed that Jakken’s staff started to grow dark and readying itself to strike. She took the moment that Jakken was distracted by his staff and took out her sword and leaped at the serpent that had a man in its grasp. Rin knew that if she was going to be able to live her life without Sesshomaru, she need to prove to herself that she could handle fighting off a demon, and this one didn’t seem as bad some that they have encountered in the past. She swung the sword freeing the man, but not without meeting a powerful blow from the serpent as she landed. Some of the men were in shock to see a woman attacking the demon and were impressed that she had managed to strike the demon. Some of the men ran to Rin’s side to see if she survived the fall. She was hurt, but she got up and started to charge the serpent again. Taking another swing, she wasn’t as successful as she was the first time. By her missing, the serpent caught her and chucked her aside like a piece of paper. This time she got the full power of the demons strength and was sent flying into a small ravine. Jakken in complete shock of the situation turned the staff on the demon. Fire spewed from one of the skulls on the top of the staff. The demon went up in flames then the ashes flew away. Jakken and most of the males ran to the ravine to check on Rin’s condition.
Upon getting to the scene they found her laying face up bruised and bleeding. Just from the looks of it Rin’s left arm was dislocated. The sight was a bit gruesome, Jakken summoned some of the men to help him get her back to the temple and to find a doctor to tend to her wounds, and to the others that had fallen during battle. Once they laid Rin on the floor in the temple, Jakken left word with the young doctor, and left to find Sesshomaru.
“Then I instructed the doctor that if Rin was to die that to leave her body until my return. I figured that if she died you would be able to revive her with your Tenseiga.”
“I see.” Jakken could see the pain that rushed over his master’s face. “You know that after she is better that we cannot leave her alone. She can’t be trusted to keep a low profile if the village is attacked again.”
Jakken then lead Sesshomaru to the temple. When they got to the doors of the temple, which were open, Sesshomaru hesitated just for a second before walking in. Reaching the room were the bandaged Rin laid. Sesshomaru looked at her, she looked so peaceful, but he knew that she was in tremendous pain. There were bruises and cuts on her face, arms, legs and possibly everywhere else that his eyes couldn’t see. He saw the bandages that covered over her midsection, head and a sling that held her left arm in place. He walked toward what he thought was a resting Rin, but as he approached her she stirred and her eyes open wider slowly.
“Lord Sesshomaru, I knew you would come back for me.” She said wincing in pain, but still smiling up at him.
Sesshomaru dropped to one knee and carefully lifter Rin’s fragile body up to assess her condition and to look into her eyes.
“I cannot help but think that this is all my fault...” Sesshomaru said sounding guilty. Rin smiled gently as she starred up at Sesshomaru, realizing that he was feeling guilty and maybe even a little sad over her condition. “I should have never given you that sword.” He said sternly.
The glimmer of hope that Rin had in her eyes vanished, she thought, “ I have no hope. That jerk!”
