Disclaimer – I don’t deserve Inuyasha so why should I own it?
Thoughts – wow…I never did realize how angsty this story was getting to be. I guess I just wasn’t paying attention…and I guess that it is here where I thank “Cochrann” for opening my eyes to it. I owe you-truly. But I’m still having conflicting feelings, I mean…a reviewer on A-Single-Spark.com ‘Brandi” made a good point that all this time Kagome thought Inuyasha had raped her and that now, Kagome can’t just jump into his arms. GAH! I put myself in a hole…but I might just have a rope to get me out of it. So…and also, she brought up the point that Sesshomaru’s character isn’t dominant enough…you know I think she’s right. I need to fix that…I mean soon-like now. So…baby steps…trust developing, I have to have ‘something’ connect with Inuyasha. Sesshomaru WILL be coming back though. You’ll see.

Chapter 6: As The Light Breaks Through
When I opened my eyes, there was darkness…
No light and no embers aflare,
Then when I closed my eyes I saw rainbows…
And I discovered that you were always there.
And as I stumbled and tripped through the winter…
The howling wind at my back,
I slowly walked back into springtime…
And saw that there was no more black.
~alakeshadow 8/05/06 (Poem “Springtime”)
Opening his eyes slowly, he looked up to see the sun shinning down at him. The rain had stopped, the bright rays blinding him momentarily. Blinking, he reached up to rub his eyes and then realized that Kagome was missing. Panicking, he sat bolt upright looking around for any sign of her and found her sitting on the river bank, her bare legs dangling in the stream as it trickled by.
Sighing thankfully, his ears dropped slightly at the previous day and he looked at the ground, his amber eyes sad. So many wasted days…and so many yet to come…and yet…he couldn’t let it end like this. The realization jarred him from his sadness and he looked up once more to watch the girl who was all of fifty feet away. She finally knew…and that was a start to a long beginning. No…he would not let it go on…this rift between them. The gaping chaos of pain and despair that had sucked them both in. Both of them had gone through enough pain as it was, and now…now they would build up their bridges once again. His eyes hardened with certainty at that. They would…if he had to gather the wood to do it.
Standing, he walked softly towards her and when he reached her, he looked down to see her vacant eyes staring off into the distance. Hardening his resolve, he gently sat down a few feet away from her and followed her line of sight. A soft breeze played across them both as it became quiet, but he did not fail to see her body stiffen with him being so close to her. In respect for her feelings, he scooted a few feet further down the opposite end of the river bank, her stiffening ceasing with the action.
It was a beautiful morning…maybe ten or so and he welcomed it from the rainy days of the past year. The sun was not hot enough yet to cause discomfort and so it was nice just sitting there in the soft grass. His ears twitched as a fly buzzed around them.
“Do you remember the fireworks?” He asked her softly as he too began to roll up his pants, slowly slipping his legs into the cool stream. She didn’t answer, only continued to stare out at nothing. He didn’t let it deter him. Lazily, he kicked his legs back and forth in the water, watching water bugs as they skimmed across the surface.
“You were laughing…like you always did. And you were wearing that beautiful pink kimono that Sango had bought for you… Remember…Shippo was shrieking obnoxiously because one of the sparklers had caught his tail on fire?” He smiled at the memory, even laughed a little as he leaned back on his hands.
“Sango and Miroku were still at odds back then…I was always too stupid to see their affection for one another no matter how many times you pointed it out. Remember how we spied on them when they took that walk along the riverbank? The river looked a lot like this one…only fish were jumping everywhere.” Inuyasha suddenly broke into laughter.
“And you sat me right as I was jumping over the water to yell at them to kiss each other, so that I almost drowned myself!” He laughed again, his head throwing itself back as the sun shone down on them. He didn’t see the small smile that slowly ghosted across her lips before it disappeared.
“You had finally mastered your bow…and then you wouldn’t use it to hunt anything. Miroku got so mad at you because there were so many deer in the area…but then you fired one at him and he left you alone about it.” He turned his face towards her, his gentle smile brilliant in its simplicity.
“I remembered you every day like that. You never changed Kagome.” He said, watching as a small white butterfly landed on her shoulder. He cocked his head to the side.
“Butterflies represent the soul in our country…I think it was you who told me that.” His smile faltered but never left his eyes as he laid back, his arms cradling his head. Once again it became silent. The butterfly flapped its wings slowly, once, twice, before taking to the air at her sudden words.
“Why…why don’t you hate me?” She whispered so softly, he almost didn’t hear it. He frowned as he looked up at the sky, puffy white clouds lazily scuttling by in their endless journey to nowhere.
“Even if I tried, I could never hate you Kagome. That was the difference between you and Kikyo. I never stopped truly loving you. I never let doubt cloud my eyes as I did with her. You…you were too pure a creature to be hated by someone as small and pathetic as me.”
“I could have killed you…I almost did on so many occasions-”
“Same here. I guess now wer’ equal huh?” He said with a grin as he sat up, his ears wiggling up and down because he knew it made her smile. She did not disappoint him.
“Nothing you could ever do-have ever done, has stopped me from caring about you. And now, I have only one course of action to take to prove it…” He saw her look at him out of the corner of her eye, her face turning towards him very slightly. He grinned.
“Getting you back for sitting me!” Picking her up in one swift movement, he flew out into the middle of the stream-and then plummeted down into the cool water. Coming up, their heads broke through the surface, Kagome eyes opened wide in shock. He only grinned at her as he began to tread water and she glared at him suddenly making him temporarily pause before he suddenly saw the dim sparkle in her eyes. Suddenly, her arm came back and then shot forwards, spraying him in the face with water. Giving a yell of surprise, he went underwater and came back up under her, his arms lifting her on top of his shoulders. He listened then, to the first happy cry she had given in over a year. It was music to his ears. Grinning up at her, he fell backwards, Kagome giving a shriek of laughter as she went with him, tumbling backwards into the clear water. Inuyasha’s head broke the surface first, and with a grin he looked around, only Kagome wasn’t in sight. His grin wavered before all of a sudden, her felt hands come around his feet and pull him under water. Opening his eyes, he saw her give him an impish look before pushing him away and kicking herself backwards, onto the bank. Throwing his head back out of the water with a gasp, he treaded water once again, his mouth becoming a pout at her decision to stop the fun.
Her face became serious again after a few more seconds, and slowly, Inuyasha swam ashore to lie on his back in the dry grass. Kagome began to wring her hair out, her eyes watching him intently. Sharing her gaze, Inuyasha saw the pain and confusion there, and wished more then anything to be able to completely heal it.
“I will always protect you…always be there when you need me. It does not matter anymore what has happened to us this past year-all I care about now is seeing you happy.” He said softly as she sat beside him. Her smile returned, and suddenly, his eyes widened in surprise as she leaned down, and softly kissed him softly on the mouth.
“I want to make it up to you for all those times I distrusted you…but this is the only way I know how…” Her painful whisper made him gulp as she slowly began to untie the knot of his hamaka.
“What-what are you doing, Kagome?” She put a finger to his lips to shush him, her wet raven hair falling over one eye.
“I told you…” His eyes widened as the knot fell loose. He saw the disgust and horror of what she was doing in her eyes and began to protest but she muffled it with a kiss, her body straddling his hips as her small hands gripped his haori. He broke away forcefully, his hands grasping her forearms to stop her and push her back away from him.
“No. Neither of us wants that.” He said sternly making her sad smile darken. She looked away from him, the hurt in her eyes intensifying. He shook his head at her, his own eyes becoming apologetic.
“You are the most beautiful woman I have ever known…even more so then Kikyo, but the things I felt before…I can’s ask of you now. You…you have Sesshomaru.” Her soulful eyes turned back to watch his face as he spoke, and she lowered her head in understanding as he sat up, holding her in his arms. He was not surprised however, when she moved out of them, her arms wrapping around herself.
“Yes…yes I do have Sesshomaru. Thank you…” He grinned, although sadness clouded his eyes somewhat.
“Come with me…back to the village…we should eat and let everyone know we’re still alive!” He said jokingly as his stomach grumbled. She blushed as she silently turned to head back to the village in answer.
“Alright.” She murmured. Inuyasha smiled at her back, watching her wet hair sparkle in the sunlight. Her stiff back carrying her across the ground.
‘Too long she has wandered in darkness…with the winter wind at her back.’ Inuyasha thought deeply as they began to walk the opposite way towards Kaeda’s village.
‘But she has finally made it into the spring.’
*****
He had cursed himself for it…but he couldn’t leave her with the half-breed. His pride and demon side of him wouldn’t let him. He had come back to find her…unsure of if she had returned to her time. She had however not, and he had found her. The half-breed had been holding her in his arms, his head on top of hers, both of them asleep. His eyes hardened at the image in anger. It didn’t matter that Inuyasha was innocent, he shouldn’t be touching what was his!
And so, he had taken her from his brother’s arms, the hanyou never waking from his sleep. Sesshomaru felt even angrier at that. Some protection he was! He wanted to kill his pathetic brother right then-just to get him out of both of their lives! But as he had looked down at the battered woman in his arms, his anger was forgotten. And he held her closer, his eyes looking at her wild mane of hair, her porcelain pale face…and then her lips, still and forever a shade of pink. And unable to stop himself, he had kissed her, his bangs shading his eyes as he silently walked away, a shield around him to block off the down-pouring rain. He then took her to the cave he had been to earlier with his entourage, and it was then that she had begun to wake.
She had slowly opened her eyes…her lashes fluttering softly as her shoulders moved sideways to move her head. Her graceful neck had arched then, and he, never releasing her, kissed her there. Her eyes had only opened a small ways more, and when she saw him there, she had given a soft moan and curled herself closer to him, her arms going around his back, her dull nails clutching at the white silk. He was wordless as he held her, not seeing the use of any verbal communication at that moment. He had damned himself again when she had began to cry against him, and nuzzled her hair softly, unsure of what else to do. When Rin had cried, he had always sung to her…but he had never found himself very good at it. He hummed instead, a soft tune that he had heard Rin sing once. He buried his face deeper in her hair as he did so, his lips nibbling the top of her ear as his arms encased her securely against him. He was relieved when her crying began to stop a short time later, her face turning to the side to look up at him through tear stained lashes. And he rested his forehead against hers, his humming stopping.
One of her hands came up to cup his cheek and he turned his face into it making her relax even further.
“What…is that, that you’re humming?” She asked softly.
His eyes, noticing the still wet tears, smoothed them away with one of his hands.
“I am not sure.” Her eyes lowered at his honest words.
“Oh.” He tipped her chin up to look at him again.
“But I can continue it more if it would please you.” She smiled.
“You please me without doing anything.” She had whispered to him, and he had kissed her at her words. And the change in her had been instantaneous.
The hand cupping his cheek had slid up to fist gently in his silken hair, the hand on his back tugging at the cloth as if to tear it from him. Her mouth, so sweet and soft, became rough and controlling as she leaned her body closer into him. He growled at the transformation and kissed her back, his hands sliding everywhere against her that he could. When she broke away, he had only a second to react before she had pushed him down, her hands coming around to fist against the straps of his armor, trying to desperately tug it off. Then, his hands covered hers, stilling them.
“You are in pain…”
“Not with you are here with me.” She said softly as her mouth swept down onto his again, her tongue sliding against his wantonly. He was the one to break away this time, his golden eyes shinning in the darkness.
‘With him I am always safe…’ She thought desperately, her eyes becoming somewhat wild.
“You are not thinking…” He said sternly, her hands cupping his face at his words, one of her thumbs tracing across his lower lip, pushing down to make it open.
“With you I never do.” And with that her mouth sweetly covered his, her hands roaming down to finish undoing the leather straps of his armor. He tilted his head back with a groan as she almost viciously tore it off of him, her mouth nipping a trail down his jaw. His eyes closed in pleasure as he felt her hands slid within the folds of his kimono to caress his chest. And in the next second, they were ripping it open to expose the entirety of it, the smooth white skin dull in the rainy light. Then suddenly, she hesitated, her hot body stilling as if drenched with cold water as she stared down at him, his pale white skin, encasing hard, taunt muscles. She studied the somewhat hurried rise and fall of his chest, the way his arms flexed with every movement that he made, then she was looking at his face, the amber eyes, hot with passion, yet concerned for her. She turned her head away then, her hands slowly receding as she began to crawl off of him onto the dirt of the cave floor. One of his hands stopped her, his body sitting up to pull her back into his arms.
“Be with me again…my Kagome.” He whispered, his words so soft and feather light that they made her heart clench. Her face turned slowly back to look up into his face, her eyes shinning with new tears.
“I am…disgusting…!” She whimpered, her teeth biting into her lower lip, causing blood to well up. He growled in objection.
“Never…you are everything it means to be happy within my eyes…but it cannot be so when you are sad…do not worry anymore about anything. You are with me now.” He whispered, his hands gently stroking her back. Her bottom lip quivered in reply, and without wasting another second, he gently tilted her onto her back, his lips kissing a gentle trail across her nose and cheek, to hold her mouth, then break away and slip down to her neck. His hands gingerly undid the buttons of her blouse to then gently cup her breasts. She gave a soft gasp as he did so, and he nuzzled her, his teeth nibbling along her collar bone to suck softly at the curve of her breast. Her back arched.
“I will heal you…” He whispered against her soft skin, and then his mouth captured her and she cried out, her fire returning as her nails raked across the loose robes. Grabbing them, she dragged them down until they hung at his elbows. Then, clutching his forearms to hold onto them, she felt his tongue trace gently across her nipple. She groaned at the slow torture and grabbed his head, forcing him to look up at her.
“I am not as fragile as glass…you can be more rough with me.” She whispered beseechingly. He shook his head, his tongue reaching out to wind once more around the peak of her breast.
“You do not need sex right now, Kagome. You need love.” Her eyes widened at his words, her hands fisting in his hair making him pause.
“I have no love! Either to give or to take!” She replied bitterly, tears or anger and despair appearing at the corners of her eyes. Releasing her breast, he leaned up over her, licking her cheek animalistically as a dog would.
“You are filled with love.” He said softly. One of his hands winding through her hair.
“You have it here…” His fingers trailed across her eyelids down to the space where her heart was.
“And here…” From there is hand gently slid down across her breast.
“And here.” His hand glided down her ribs, down her stomach to cup her center gently. She gasped, her eyes closing as her head tilting back.
“Your body houses the love of both my world and yours…and when your body gives itself to me, then I share them as well.” And with that, his hand gently undid her pants and pulled them down, his thumb hooking her underwear to bring them away as well. She sniffed softly as if to cry again but he shushed her with another kiss.
“Thought the white gem be cast into the dirt, its purity cannot long be sullied; though the good man find himself in vile circumstances, his heart cannot be corrupted. As the fir and cypress withstand the rigors of winter, so resplendent wisdom is safe in situations of difficulty and danger…as will you. You will go on.” She threw her arms around his neck, her face burrowing into his chest at his words. Surprised, he realized that she was hugging him, and smiled as he returned it gently.
His eyes closed at the feeling of warmth that fluttered through him at her tender touch.
‘You must do the thing you think you cannot do…’ She thought, thinking about the words that the American president Eleanor Roosevelt had said. Sota had written her a letter from America with the words within it and she had taken them to heart.
“Yes…” The one word made him break away from her.
“You are strong. But even I cannot persuade you of it unless you yourself believe it so.” Her head nodded, her hands sliding down his shoulders to his arms and then down to rest on the tops of his hands.
“Sesshomaru…” Her words went through him like electricity.
“I want you to take me now.” He growled softly in reply as he lowered himself on top of her. She whimpered at the feel of his bare skin against her breasts and slid her hands beneath them to undo the knot of his pants. He kissed her hard as it came undone, and she moaned at the intensity of it as she slid them down his hips to his thighs. Irritatedly almost, he kicked them off, wrapping her closer to him as he cradled her between his thighs. He hesitated once more as he looked into her eyes, his mouth breaking from hers.
“Are you…?” She smiled at his unfinished sentence.
“Always.” And then he was inside her. She cried out in pleasure from the feeling of it, and slid her hands across his taunt back, her head tilted back as Sesshomaru kissed her neck. He began to thrust, his movements gentle yet deep as he slowly loved her. She moaned softly as his fingers slid between them to delve within her, and she arched her back, her bucking up against them. Hazily, she looked up to see Sesshomaru’s eyes squinting slightly in concentration and she smiled as her legs came up to wrap around his waist and urge him forward in a voiceless command. He groaned, the throaty sound music to her ears as she felt him begin to move faster, the strokes still controlled, but more forceful. Her eyes closed once again, her fingers kneading the muscles of his back making him hiss, his fingers delving in further to pleasure her more. She moaned again, her body moving up and down against him as their hips ground together. She felt a lock of his silver hair brush against the side of his face and blindly searched for her lovers lips, finding them after only a few seconds. She had to breathe and exhale through her nostrils, the breathy moans lost in his mouth as he flipped them over, his hands grasping her hips to rock her against him fiercely. She moaned into his mouth again, her hands holding his shoulders to anchor her to him and began to move with his hands, angling her body up more to achieve a more pleasurable contact. It was Sesshomaru’s turn to growl into her mouth as suddenly, his body tightened, his hips angling up against hers as she grounded herself down, and then he came within her. She whimpered as his mouth left hers, his hands continuing to thrust inside of her a few more times, and then she cried out as she herself found her completion.
Falling forwards onto him, he wrapped his arms around her, his mouth and nose nuzzling her ear. She smiled, giggling softly at the strange feeling. He growled back playfully as he slid out of her to roll them onto their sides. Her eyes remained closed, even as he wrapped his furry pelt around them, along with his robes. She burrowed closer against him, unwilling yet to go to sleep. She sighed softly at the peaceful feeling that came over her with his arms around her, and pushed away the thoughts of it being limited. He wouldn’t leave her…would he?
She frowned, marring her nose with wrinkles because of it. Sensing the unsettling aura forming around his lover, Sesshomaru gently stroked her hip, his long fingers tracing across the dip where her pelvis dropped off.
“Will you…hum to me again?” She asked as one of her legs slid between his. She could almost see the confused look on his face and smiled.
“It was just very relaxing.” She said. Bringing one arm out from under him, he circled it under her head and began to play with her hair, running the wild strands through his fingers. And as she had asked, he began to hum. She listened to him for a little while, and the sound of it and the still pouring rain outside, slowly sent her into darkness.
He had been tender with her…more so then he had been to anything else in his entire life, and yet he did not mind as much as he had thought he would. He had just known that he could not be away from her. And so, when the early morning had come, he had woken her with a kiss and they had made love again. She had gone back to sleep but he had staid awake until a few more hours passed and he knew that he would have to bring her back to his brother. As much as he despised the hanyou, he for some reason, did not want his Kagome to keep on feeling the hatred she had felt before.
Dressing them both, he had taken her back, talking with her at the rivers edge. When he had told her he had to leave however…her eyes had grown sad and vague. She had known that she would now have to deal with her guilt-with Inuyasha. But he had watched them both, as his brother woke and found her missing and then talked with her at the bank. He watched her begin to open up, the water fight as it erased her pain for a moment…and then her seduction. It had made pain slice through him to see her like that, kissing his brother, untying his pants. But then, as he was about to appear and kill him, his brother had nobly stopped her himself. Had mentioned…himself…and she had stopped.
The girl was confused…unsure and confused. Sesshomaru knew that and yet it still hurt him to know that she had offered his brother what she should only have given himself. He did not know what to make of it. He should have left…turned his back and never looked back on the both of them…and yet the thought of leaving Kagome seemed as real to him as catching a star. He had not seen any true intension in her eyes, her body, as she had straddled his brother. Perhaps, it truly was the only way she saw that could help them both fix one another. Sesshomaru knew that she and slept with other demons like Koga, but right now, he was not concerned as he felt that she had no reason to see him again. And as he watched her and his step-brother begin to mend, he felt satisfied. And jumping down from the tree he had been in, he followed them back to the village.
He would make himself known when Kagome needed him.
Notes - please review! I'm having a great time with this story but its still only four stars...that bugs me to no end. Lol. Anyway, so any ideas? Comments? Secrets?
