chapter 6: the favor

“You should always be prepared. I told you that I planned to attack when you least expect it, so you should always be prepared.” said Antonique.
“Yes Inu-Yasha, how do expect to defeat Naruku in your state?” said Reiyu with a bit of laughter.
It was a funny site to see after all. Inuyasha was drenched with cold water you could tell by the way he was shivering.
“Yeah but you didn’t have to poor water on me,” he said gruffly while grumbling a bit more about how wrong it was to poor water on people when they were thinking.
“Hey!” I shouted out to them before coming to a complete stop.
“What are you doing here ain’t you supposed to be with Sesshomaru somewhere?” Asked Inu-Yasha.
“Seeing as how your level of maturity has decreased since the last time I saw you, I’ll just ignore that statement and talk to the person that I came to see.” I stated giving him a glare.
“Oh _______; cool you’re here so what’s up?” asked Antonique.
“Um well I… I went to see Midoriko yesterday,” I said not knowing how to say it since some people where being nosey.(Inu-Yasha)
“And what happened?” she inquired truly interested in what I had to say.
“Well I spoke to her…”
“Oh my goodness you did? What’d she say? How is she? Does she remember me? Blah, blah, blah,” she started going on and on till I was no longer able to keep up
“Sister?” said Reiyu.
“Oh, um, sorry got a little excited there,” she said with a huge cheese smile and scratching the back of her head.
Both Inu-yasha and I sported a huge sweat drop.
“Okay then,” I mumbled to myself
I then proceeded to explain the situation to her and Reiyu.
We then decided that Reiyu would be left in charge of training Inu-Yasha for the time being.
The others in Inu-Yasha’s little group had split up.
“Inu-Yasha if you don’t mind my asking do you some time have trouble with your sides” I asked just wondering if regular half demons had the kind of problem I do.
“Yeah I guess that’s why I got Tetsiaga here, though,” he said honestly while pulling out Tetsiaga for me to behold.
It was at that time that I noticed how attractive he was. Sure he did look like his brother, but I was to busy hating his guts to realize that he too had some good looks.
“What are you staring at?” he said with a blush and putting Tessiaga back in it’s rightful place
“um nothing… sorry just thinking that’s all sorry.” I said while quickly adverting my eyes to the floor. That was close.
“feh” he replied before sitting back down
“______ Rin is hungry. Rin is going to find some food. Does _____ want anything?” asked Rin.
Just in the nick of time. Thank goodness it was starting to get uncomfortable.
“Nah, how about we just go together we have to leave soon anyways, right?” I said getting up from the little circle around the fire.
“Okay,” said Rin just before grabbing my hand and leading me to the near by river and vegetation.
And so we were on our way to the place where we were supposed to meet Sesshomaru.
Tomorrow was the day that we were supposed to meet and it was just bearly noon. I wonder if we’ll make it back in time and if he’ll get pissed about Antonique being here. Jaken will be. Speaking of Jaken I was starting to miss the little imp. Why is beyond me, really I don’t know why.
“So Antonique; how’s the training with Inu-Yasha going?” I asked.
“Fine, he just gets distracted a bit too easily. He’s really strong but he’s too cocky for his own good. So I enjoy the little chances I get to poke at him and laugh,” she retorted with a giggle.
“Is he stronger than Sesshomaru?” I asked quite curious indeed.
“I wouldn’t say so, If anything he’s strength is not what makes him strong but it’s his will to fight. Although he’s not that far from Sesshomaru in strength” she retorted seriously.
“So as far as strength Sesshomaru is stronger, but Inu-Yasha has more will to fight? Why’s that, do you think?” I asked a bit confused by her contradicting statement.
“Well I suppose it’s because he’s a half-demon and it’s harder for him so his will to fight is … just higher. He has more on the line; he has to protect himself from being looked down on, he has to protect his friends who in turn defend and accept him for who he is. He has a deep loyalty to his pride, who he is and his friends so it makes him fight even harder which is probably why he’s so strong. Mean while Sesshomaru is a full demon and not just any demon but the Lord of the West. He demands respect by his very presence because of his authority. He fights but what does he fight for… I don’t know much about him honestly because I promised myself I’d be good(1). But from what I understand he fights strickly for power and that’s not good enough. That’s why I said what I said to him. I really don’t care if he gets mad. The truth fucking hurts buddy!” she said.
“I guess I understand your meaning, but won’t the strongest and smartest win the fight against Naraku?” I asked still a bit confused.
“No, not necessarily. You see when Inu-yasha fights he pushes himself to the limit. My theory is that he has something to fight for and that makes him stronger; he’ll endure more, he’ll just keep going no matter how hopeless the situation is. I noticed that the first time I meet him. Reiyu was totally kicking his ass but as he faught he just kept on getting stronger and stronger. I knew that Reiyu was merely toying with him but if it went on further it might have turned out bad, and not for Inu-Yasha either.” She said
“Wow, he’s that strong?!” I exclaimed, astonished by the tale. ‘So he gas the power that was steadily raising!’ (refer to earlier chapter)
“So will I be like that?” I wondered aloud.
“I’m only a demi-god. I can’t tell you the future all I know is Inu-Yasha’s power is nothing in comparison to yours,” she said but some how I was not convinced.
Rin was apparently very fascinated by the conversation. It was still surprising that she didn’t stick up for Sesshomaru though.
“_______, we’re walking to slow. Rin doesn’t want to be late for meeting Lord Sesshomaru.” She said looking up at me with a little pout.
“Yeah you're right we’ll need to travel faster. Hop on,” I said as I crouched down for her to get on my back.
And the feeling of the swift wind in my hair began. It was necessary, but it was fun running so fast.The bad parts was it sucked to do so on an empty stomach. Thank goodness I had had my fill a while ago.
Because we were traveling so fast about 6 hours later we arrived at a clearing about 20 miles from our destination. It’d take us about an half hour to get there tops but I was ready for a little break. Just cause I’m half demon now doesn’t mean I don’t get tired.
Well, I sent Antonique hunting and she came back sporting some small rabbits and a few apples. Since she went hunting it’s only fair that RIN not me cooks.
Yeah I know, but I can cook, I’m just rather lazy at the moment.
“Rin has finished would _____ like to eat now,” she offered.
“Yeah give me a minute.” I said lazily.
At the moment I was literally sprawled out on the floor ‘resting’ as I like to put it.
‘Hey I so hungry so very, very, very…very hungry hold on didn’t Rin just say… why yes she did _____ she sure as hell did’ I thought to my self.
“______, you really are something else you know” said Antonique with a laugh as she ate an apple
“Wait, did you say the food was ready Rin?” I asked a bit more alert ok, ok a lot more alert.
“Yes, here you go,” she said as she plopped down next to me eating her roast meat on a stick and handing me mine.
“You are my savior Rin,” I said my eyes staring at the morsel with need and anticipation as my mouth watered when I inhaled the delighting aroma.
“You are welcome ______.” replied Rin with a bit of laughter and a smile.
I ate to my hearts content. Okay I massacred the food. It was gone to a better place, that place being my stomach. I got up stretched out a bit then patted my full tummy. Before praising both Rin and the demi-god.
They merely laughed at my antics.
I got in about 2 hours of sleep after that then we were at the meeting place waiting for Sesshomaru who was there waiting for us.
“You’re early,” he said before looking at us.
When he did he made sure to let me know with a glare that he was not pleased with a certain someone’s presence.
“Lord Sesshomaru!!!” exclaimed Rin with joy.
She quickly silenced herself detecting his mood. But obviously didn’t know why he was so upset.
“Hey Rin want to go play for a bit” suggested Antonique.
“Okay” replied Rin and then they went off somewhere leaving poor me to deal with the upset demon lord.
‘they are so, so, very evil’ I thought.
“Yeah about Antonique, you see I was supposed to do something that mother told me to do. So...that’s why she here...” I said while trying my best to not look at his very intimidating glare.
“Hn, I see. Very well,” He said in his monotone voice which hinted a bit of irritation
“So um, I remember you saying you had a favor of some sort to ask of me,” I said.
“I had planned on discussing it later but since it appears that you can not wait I’ll tell you now,” He retorted with a sort of snort that I found unusual.
He paused for a moment looking in the distance then his gaze returned to mine.
“This Sesshomaru would like you to pretend to be his courted for a 2 week period.” He spoke in an almost whisper, but monotone none the less.
“Huh?” was the only thing my poor brain could manage to come up with at the moment.
‘Why the hell would he want me of all people to do a thing like that,’ I thought my expression giving away my shock
“it would be difficult to find someone else on such short notice, so you will have to do. Do you accept?” he procceded to look me directly in the eye which kind of intimidated me a bit. Okay a lot, but I'm pretty sure he just insulted me in that last statement. Didn’t he?
“If you don’t mind my asking, why is it that you need to find…I mean … need a fake courted?”” I asked.
He sighed and was silent for a while. In my theory I was going to go with he was thinking about whether or not to answer me.
“I am requesting a treaty with a neighboring tribe, in order to do so the leader would like to have me mate with his daughter.” He said looking off in to the distance but one could clearly hear the discontent in his voice.
“So 2 weeks you say? I suppose I can do that.” I retorted in a normal voice while my insides were a crazy mix of confusion.
So many darn questions why me? Being 50% of them. And what exactly did pretending entail. Can I measure up to what’s expected of a high class person?
“We will go over the details further when we get home,” said Sesshomaru bringing me out of my thoughts.
He just started walking in Rin’s direction after a moment.
‘Home’ I thought.
Then I followed as I do for the most part. Antonique was currently sporting a huge cheese smile for what reason? I suppose that I’m about to find out.
“Your sword can wait a bit, I’ll be at the palace in about 3 weeks you can use this(puts a necklace around your neck) in the meantime” she said before disappearing without allowing me to respond.
“Well yeah, sure you know I’ll be fine see ya later have a good time” I said sarcastically to the dirt that was left behind.
“It’s best if demi-god does not interfere with my business,” said Sesshomaru walking on ahead.
“Yeah I guess,” I retorted half-heartedly.
“So where’s Jaken anyways?” I asked finally noticing his absence.
“Home” was his simple reply.
‘Guess he spoke enough for one day’ I thought with a sigh.
We walked in silence about four very long, boring, and quiet hours till we arrived a huge metal gate that might I add was not very welcoming. The spikes at the top might have been the dead give away. (talk about your no soliciting signs)
It took us about 20 minutes to get to the door but the front of the huge castle was filled with lush vegetation. Even some art work, I was certainly impressed by this.
I felt oh so very small looking up at the castle perhaps huge was an understatement.
We were greeted by a male servant who took it upon himself to observe me very closely.
“Lord Sesshomaru,” he greeted with a polite bow.
“Lady______,” he motioned to me with a tilt of his head.
“Hello my lady," he bowed again before introducing himself as Ilanjo.
"It’s a pleasure to meet you," I said trying to be polite despite my discomfort.
I took in my surroundings briefly noting the color scheme. It was all so awesome.
And this was only the entrance. One could easily lose themselves in the art work and the spiraling staircase a few feet ahead. During this time Rin left to who knows where.
My amazement must have been apparent because of the smirk that registered on Lord Sesshomaru’s face.
“Ilanjo tell Amera and Lola to prepare the quarters for Lady ______,” said Sesshomaru as he walked to the steps.
He then turn back and instructed for me to follow him in his one word command
“Come.”
This would certainly be an unforgettable two weeks. Pretending to be the courted of this esteemed demon lord. Living in his huge estate. Dealing with business people and staying in my place which I’m sure the details will include. I was never very good at staying in my place take the whole Yole situation for instance. Definitely interesting.
We walked down a large corridor with a few paintings here and there. He then slide open the door open to his rather tasteful study. He motioned for me to have a seat. I did and he sat across for me and began to speak.
(evil of me to leave you there neh? muhahahahahaha but at least sesshomaru was in this chapter)
(okay, okay no need to give such an evil glare geez)
For about 15 minutes we spoke of the requirements. Which weren’t too bad I guess. But I still didn't see how number 11 comes in oh well I suppose it to make it look realistic.
Now I was currently being escorted to my Quarters by a demoness named Amera. She was pretty and seemed nice why not ask her to ‘pretend’. I sighed no use now I already agreed number 11 and all.
I went in to the room and was once again awestricken by its magnificence.
There were foreign flowers on every table and some on the bed. The bed had a beautiful emerald green leaves embroaded on it. The pillows were looked so soft that I just wanted to fall asleep then and there. The window in the back of my room was like a picture to a utopia. I could see the gardens and the horizon perfectly and I just stood in awe.
On the bed was set out an outfit for me to wear. It was a lovely silk kimino with a large blue flower on it ivory colored background.
“Lord Sesshomaru requests your presence for dinner at sunset. I will be back to escort you,” she said with a polite bow before sliding the door shut.
I really felt like royalty but this damn Number 11 was still nagging me.
Why couldn't he just stop at 10? No he had to be an odd number kinda guy!
I sighed, “I may as well get my self ready.” I headed to the smell of fresh warm water. An indoor hotspring. Maybe odd numbers were okay...but we'll see after the hotspring.

“So where’s Jaken anyways?” I asked finally noticing his absence.
“Home” was his simple reply.
‘Guess he spoke enough for one day’ I thought with a sigh.
We walked in silence about four very long, boring, and quiet hours till we arrived a huge metal gate that might I add was not very welcoming. The spikes at the top might have been the dead give away. (talk about your no soliciting signs)
It took us about 20 minutes to get to the door but the front of the huge castle was filled with lush vegetation. Even some art work, I was certainly impressed by this.
I felt oh so very small looking up at the castle perhaps huge was an understatement.
We were greeted by a male servant who took it upon himself to observe me very closely.
“Lord Sesshomaru,” he greeted with a polite bow.
“Lady______,” he motioned to me with a tilt of his head.
“Hello my lady," he bowed again before introducing himself as Ilanjo.
"It’s a pleasure to meet you," I said trying to be polite despite my discomfort.
I took in my surroundings briefly noting the color scheme. It was all so awesome.
And this was only the entrance. One could easily lose themselves in the art work and the spiraling staircase a few feet ahead. During this time Rin left to who knows where.
My amazement must have been apparent because of the smirk that registered on Lord Sesshomaru’s face.
“Ilanjo tell Amera and Lola to prepare the quarters for Lady ______,” said Sesshomaru as he walked to the steps.
He then turn back and instructed for me to follow him in his one word command
“Come.”
This would certainly be an unforgettable two weeks. Pretending to be the courted of this esteemed demon lord. Living in his huge estate. Dealing with business people and staying in my place which I’m sure the details will include. I was never very good at staying in my place take the whole Yole situation for instance. Definitely interesting.
We walked down a large corridor with a few paintings here and there. He then slide open the door open to his rather tasteful study. He motioned for me to have a seat. I did and he sat across for me and began to speak.
(evil of me to leave you there neh? muhahahahahaha but at least sesshomaru was in this chapter)
(okay, okay no need to give such an evil glare geez)
For about 15 minutes we spoke of the requirements. Which weren’t too bad I guess. But I still didn't see how number 11 comes in oh well I suppose it to make it look realistic.
Now I was currently being escorted to my Quarters by a demoness named Amera. She was pretty and seemed nice why not ask her to ‘pretend’. I sighed no use now I already agreed number 11 and all.
I went in to the room and was once again awestricken by its magnificence.
There were foreign flowers on every table and some on the bed. The bed had a beautiful emerald green leaves embroaded on it. The pillows were looked so soft that I just wanted to fall asleep then and there. The window in the back of my room was like a picture to a utopia. I could see the gardens and the horizon perfectly and I just stood in awe.
On the bed was set out an outfit for me to wear. It was a lovely silk kimino with a large blue flower on it ivory colored background.
“Lord Sesshomaru requests your presence for dinner at sunset. I will be back to escort you,” she said with a polite bow before sliding the door shut.
I really felt like royalty but this damn Number 11 was still nagging me.
Why couldn't he just stop at 10? No he had to be an odd number kinda guy!
I sighed, “I may as well get my self ready.” I headed to the smell of fresh warm water. An indoor hotspring. Maybe odd numbers were okay...but we'll see after the hotspring.
