~~Chapter 6: Money Talks~~

Inutaisho laughed flipping through his photo albums. Inuyasha was 17 now, and raising him by his self wasn’t as hard as he thought it was going to be. No one picked on him; it was quite the opposite, but that’s what happens when you’ve got money and power. No one messed with him, and he was quite popular with the girls. That was actually the reason he had picked up the photo album. His current girlfriend, the miko Kikyo, reminded him of someone and it had been bothering him for quite some time.

As he flipped the pages, he smiled, finding the pictures he was looking for. Yes, Kikyo could be the spitting image of an older Kagome. Maybe that’s why Inuyasha had chosen her. It did take Inuyasha nearly five years to forget about his little friend, and Inutaisho always wondered how the little girl was doing. Her powers couldn’t have surfaced, because they would be back by now. He turned the page and found his favorite picture. Kagome was curled up close to Inuyasha as they both slept on the couch, her hands still lightly attached to his ears. As he looked at the picture he smiled. How could he have not noticed it before? In the picture he could see a very faint pink glow coming from the little girl. Her mother’s miko power must have been very strong to hide her scent from all of them so well. But it was only a matter of time.

His ears perked when he heard Inuyasha’s silver RX-8 pulling into the driveway. Of all cars he could have had, he picked that one. He just didn’t understand. Sesshoumaru had a Porsche, among others.

He quickly put the photo album away and waited for Inuyasha and most likely his girlfriend to come inside. It would probably be quite entertaining.

He laughed as he heard the two arguing. They were always arguing. He just didn’t know why Inuyasha would put up with her snotty ass. “But why can’t we go out shopping Inuyasha? I really want to go! Kagura and Kanna are going! I told them we would go!”

Inuyasha spun around and snapped. “I told you I had things to do today! You are more than welcome to go by yourself! I am not holding you here.”

Kikyo wined. “But Inuyasha. Aren’t you afraid I’ll find someone better without you around?”

“No.” He said, turning around. “You have it too good with me to go wandering off into someone else’s arms, so don’t use that threat with me.” He snapped. He tossed her the keys to his car. “Now go!”

Kikyo’s face lit up and she caught the keys, quickly running back out the door. She absolutely loved his car. “Thanks! Love ya! See ya tonight!”

Before Inuyasha could make it up the stairs, his father spoke. “So do you plan on sitting in your room all night? You’re too good for her you know.”

“I know. But you got to keep up appearances right? Plus, she keeps the other girls off of me.” He smiled.

“As long as she won’t be your mate, I’m fine with it.” Inutaisho said, emotionless.

Inuyasha nearly fell over laughing. “Yeah, like that’s ever going to happen! I’d need ten maids just to dress her and pamper her alone!” When he regained his composure he headed back up the stairs. “Oh and Miroku and Sango will be coming over soon.” He yelled down behind him.

Inutaisho smiled. Those were the only two friends of Inuyasha’s that he liked. Pity they were both human; one with a cursed hand, the other a demon exterminator by blood. Neither one of them were after his money, all they would ever take from him was his company. Not to mention they were both good influences on his temperamental son.

Kagome sat on the bleachers waiting for Christian to finish his game. She was bored out of her mind already and it had only been fifteen minutes. She was definitely not a sports person. If she had known it was going to be this boring she would have brought a book. She decided to get down and make her way to the refreshment stand next to the field to keep herself from absolute boredom.

She loved how she distracted Christian whenever she was nearby. She should have stayed where she was because whoever threw the ball to Christian didn’t notice he had stopped running. Now, she could have caught the ball, but she was caught off-guard and it was coming straight for her face. Everyone in the crowed gasped as the ball came to a halt directly in front of her face, her and the ball radiating in a pale pink light. The ball dropped to the ground as the light faded and she ran from the forming crowd. She had to get home.

She jumped in her car and raced home to her mother. She had to know what was going on. This was the second time this had happened. She hadn’t told anyone, but in Australia, she should have drowned while she was out surfing one day. A wave had hit her hard and she was under the water for more than thirty minutes. She saw the same pink glow then too.

As she walked into her house her mom knew who it was. She had felt her power surge back to her, but pretended like she didn’t know anything. “Your home early. Did you decide not to go on with your date?”

“No mom. Something happened. I need to know why these things are happening.” She said, sitting down at the table.

Kaoru had no choice but to tell her, turning around and seeing her daughter’s iridescent silver eyes. But she didn’t have to tell her everything. “Kagome my dear, I think it’s time we went back to Japan. Now that your powers have overcome mine, I can no longer hide you from the outside world. You will have to go to the special school in Japan for demons, priestesses, and children with special powers.”

“But I’ve just gotten used to it here! And what powers are you talking about? You did this to me last time! Pulling me away from all my friends!” Kagome asked impatiently.

Kaoru sighed. “You are a miko, probably much stronger than me, considering that a miko’s power only increases as the generations go down. I hid it from you, draining all my power, so that you could live a normal life. I was hoping it would last until you made it through school. But apparently it hasn’t.”

Kagome was going to argue about going back to Japan, but then something struck her. “Are we going to move back into our old house?”

Expecting a fight, it surprised her mother. “Yes, why do you ask?”

Kagome smiled. It had been ten years and she still hadn’t forgot about her childhood savior and friend. “Oh no reason. I just really liked that house.” She was finally going to get to see him after ten years. ‘I wonder if he’ll even remember me.’

“You might as well start packing your things, we’ll be there by the end of the week.” Kaoru said as she gave Kagome some food. “I’ll tell Souta the bad news.”

“Oh he’ll love it and you know it. He’s always had a fascination with demons and magic.” Kagome laughed.

“Oh, he won’t be around it. He is 100% human. Being a miko only passes on to the daughter.” Kaoru said emotionlessly.

“Oh… well he’ll still see my friends.” She said cheerily.

“No, he won’t. At all times within my household they will need to hide their appearance from him. I will not have him exposed to such nonsense. Even your father didn’t like being around demons, that’s why he…” Kaoru clasped her hands over her mouth. She had almost let it slip.

“Why he what?” She asked coolly, crossing her arms over her chest.

She had to come up with something quick. “Why he had me cloak your identity.”

Kagome eyed her suspiciously. “Why do I have a feeling that that’s not what you were going to say?”

“Look, it doesn’t matter right now. Right now you need to pack.” She said sharply. “I need to get my business moved. It shouldn’t be too hard, but I need to get started now. I will see you tomorrow at breakfast.” With that Kaoru walked out of the room and into her study.
