New Pains

A/N: For those that want to know, I'll be updating Silence of the Wolf in time. I am watching all the episodes to RK, to get a better judge of Aoshi and Saitou before I continue, so I can try and keep them in character.

Chapter Six

The small wooden home was peaceful as Kagome stared into the fire burning in the hearth. Shippo was playing with a ball she'd brought with them keeping himself entertained. Night had fallen outside ending another day in her life. She waited patiently trying not to worry again. She'd been in the Makai for almost four months, it didn't seem that long. Yomi hadn't tried to kill her, he'd let her continue to follow him. She knew he'd done it out of curiousity, to see how long she'd do it. He said she amused him, often calling her insane.

She didn't mind him giving her a nickname, he could have just thought of a decent one. He called her his insane kitten, which riled her everytime. Being likened to a kitten was okay, it was the HIS and the Insane she didn't agree with. She didn't belong to him even if she was living with him. They slept in seperate rooms, he hadn't tried to touch her in anyway. Most of his day was spent training Shura leaving her alone with Shippo.

Kagome wasn't sure how she would respond if he did try anything. She wasn't really ready to think about another man. Her pregnancy was her worry at the moment. There was no need to think on other matters. They had formed a strange friendship, basically accepting each other's presence. Shippo had taken a strange liking to Shura as well. Kagome still thought the boy to be arrogant and a brat at times. He was respectful to her if anything. The one time he'd been rude, Yomi had slapped him in the back of his head hard enough to send him flying a few miles away.

She placed a hand over her large stomach and groaned, when would her pregnancy end? She had to be over seven months but looked like she'd swallowed a blimp. The baby rolled in her stomach, now she understood why her body had produced a barrier. It had been to protect her fragile human body. With the power she felt coming from the kid, one of his kicks would have broken her ribs.

Her senses picked up the two men coming back at a fast speed. They usually strolled in, why would they be running? Panic filled her, she forced herself out the chair. The door burst open before she was able to cross over. "Shura?" Her worry was justified seeing the small child holding up a bleeding Yomi. There was a huge gash on his head, the wound looked bad. "What happened?"

"It's my fault. I thought he was paying attention so I attacked. I didn't mean to cut him, he moved before I could kill him." Shura felt fear for the first time in his life. They had been using the swords once more during training. His father had knocked him down like usual then turned towards the sky. Shura had sat there contemplating of his next move like usual. He assumed his father was simply waiting for him to move. It wasn't until the blade made contact and the boy felt himself being knocked aside that the truth had set in. His father had been preoccupied, lost in his thoughts. Shura never knew his father to do that, he was always aware of what was going on around him.

Kagome had Shura place him in front of the fire. The wound was nasty, he was lucky the boy hadn't taken off the top of his head. If the man had been slower in reacting he'd be dead. "I can heal him don't worry. Go and eat some dinner." The miko placed her hand over his face and concentrated. The sword had to go in about an inch, it was really nasty. She wasn't sure if it had done any damage to his brain. She quickly went about healing him hoping no permanent damage was done.

After seeing that he would live she told both boys to get some rest. Yomi had yet to wake up but needed to be cleaned up some. She went to work on removing his shirt that was stained with blood. While doing so she couldn't help but look at the sculptured chest. It was actually nicer than Yusuke's but didn't have as big of effect on her. It had a small effect on her raging hormones but she squashed them.

A blush stayed on her face the whole time she washed his chest off. His body had been trying to start the healing process but he'd lost consciousness from bloodloss. She rinsed the rag off then went to work on his face. His hair proved to be difficult to get clean with just a cloth. It was soft between the pads of her fingers, almost like silk. How come her hair never felt this soft and she spent tons of money on expensive shampoos. Now she only had the things Yomi provided, she wasn't sure where he got his supplies from. Her fingers left the strands to linger on his cheek, which was hot to the touch. His skin was smooth but left a hint of the strength laying below the surface.

Curiousity got the better of her and her fingers found his lips, wanting to know if all youkai were the same. Inuyasha's had been rough but gentle and Yusuke's were soft, firm and wonderful to the touch. What would it feel like to have this man kiss her? Her body reacted to the thoughts and she swore to herself. She was pushing her luck she knew but couldn't help it. All blame went to her condition, yeah that would work. Then again she was only human and a female, she longed for companionship. She had lost her first love and even if her night with Yusuke had been life changing it had meant nothing to him. The truth was she was alone, too single for her peace of mind. Was it wrong for her to want someone to be with?

She was sure Inuyasha was sleeping with Kikyou by now and Yusuke was still banging Keiko, so where did that leave her? Wasn't it okay for her to find what happiness she could? Life was never to be taken for granted, she knew that first hand. Why not enjoy whatever she could that brought her pleasure or enjoyment? Did that make her a bad person? She could never go demand that Yusuke give up Keiko, not for her. She had no emotional attachment to anyone like that, not anymore. That had been left behind the day she'd entered the Makai. It saddened her realizing that when Yusuke had held her for a brief moment she had been wishing for a chance.

Yomi moaned in his sleep, something was enticing his senses once more. His body and head were aching in different ways. His head was pounding with unknown pressure, his lower region with pressure he recognized. It was her scent that was effecting him once more. The sweet smell was huskier than normal, she was aroused but by what? His eyes rolled in the back of his head as he groaned. 'I'm dreaming but it feels so real. I have to be dreaming, I just rolled my eyes.' He knew he'd lost his eyes ten centuries ago. He wasn't just blind in them, they had been destroyed by the assassin's attack. His eyelid's protested, the pain felt more than real as he pried them open with his strength. The ache intensified in his head, this couldn't be a dream. "What's going on?"

Kagome ran over to lean next to him at the sound of his voice. "Are you okay? Shura brought you back, you were wounded on accident. I healed you the best I could." Her hand came up to touch his chest, the muscles twitched under the contact. "What's wrong?"

"What did you do Kagome?" There was anger in his voice, he was begining to panic. Yomi wanted to do something as childish as pinch himself. His lids were opened slightly and his brain was seeing light. It was all blurry but it was there for him to see, actually see. "Answer me, what have you done to me?"

Kagome scrambled back at the harshness of his voice. Did he blame her for his attack? She hadn't done it, she hadn't been there. Maybe he didn't remember Shura accidently hitting him and was placing the blame on her. His aura picked up and fear filled her for the first time since meeting him. "Nothing, what's the matter with you?"

"Don't lie to me," He sat up and placed his hand in front of his face. The blur of the appendage could be seen moving in his line of vision. The pain in his head was constant now but he ignored it, disbelief filled him. How had she done it? He'd tried to heal after the attack but it had done no good. The energy had torn his eyes apart, leaving him without.

Kagome got to her feet and ran, fear making her move. She wasn't sure if he'd lost her mind or he was simply blaming her for whatever was now wrong with him. She hadn't been the one to wound him, maybe her healing had messed something up. Not wanting to stay around to find out what actions he might take, she ran into her room and snatched up her kit. Everything else was left behind, their lives were more important.

She heard her name being yelled as she ran out the door. Yomi's voice filled the night sky, causing her to begin trembling. He sounded more than upset for some reason, she didn't want to wait for an explanation. Shippo opened his eyes feeling the uneven movements of her pace. He picked up on her fear upon waking fully. He didn't ask why they were running, just held onto her.

Kagome wasn't sure how long she ran before she felt the first pain. It tore through her whole body causing her to fall over, Shippo went flying through the air. A tear slid down her face as it slowly receded. It was worse than menstrual cramps, ten times worse. What the hell had she just felt? Shippo came running up to her concern on his face. Kagome heard her name being yelled in the distance.

Shippo wasn't sure what was going on but heard Yomi's voice. "Over here," He called out seeing his mother in pain. His eyes widened when she shook her head at him. Were they running from the man?

Kagome stood up sensing the man getting closer, she grabbed Shippo as another pain shot through her. Something warm ran down her leg, 'Great I just pissed myself.' She tried walking with the pain wanting to put space between them. What was wrong with her? Realization dawned on her, had her water just broke? Not now, she wasn't far enough. Her scream filled the air, birds left for the night sky.

Shippo started yelling for the man unsure of what to do. Kagome was now laying on her side crying, he could smell blood and something else. Relief kicked in when the man reached them in time, "Something's wrong with her."

Yomi could smell the fluid mixed with blood, she was delivering. He bent down to pick the wimpering girl up, she tried to move from him. "Stop, I'm not going to hurt you." His eyes were closed trying to ease his own pain, hers had to be worse. What kind of child did she carry? They had never spoken on the child's heritage, she said it was a closed topic.

Back at the house Shura met them at the door, he gave him a few orders. Hopefully he'd be able to deliver the child on his own. He had Shippo place a clean blanket in front of the fire then layed her down. She still managed to swat at his hands when he went to undressing her bottom half. "I don't think the child can come with your clothing on Kagome." His hands undressed her quickly, Shippo took the soiled clothes.

Shura brought what he'd asked for, then stood by in case he was needed. Yomi knew he wasn't happy with watching a woman gave birth. But the boy had come to like the human girl along with her kit. He wished he knew what kind of youkai had helped concieve the child, he'd be better prepared. With the time frame she'd supplied him, she couldn't have been carrying a human child. Her abdomen had grown too large near her sixth month. Some youkai carried for only six months, some less than that. The labor must have been forced but near time for it to happen. A small amount of guilt filled him, knowing he'd caused her fear. She probably would have delivered within a few days anyways but he'd given her that little push.

Kagome felt the next pain and screamed not caring that the man had six ears in which to hear it. She was being torn in two, "Kill me, make it stop. Don't just sit there on your ass, you motherfucker. Don't smile either or I swear I'll purify your cocky ass." The pain receded leaving her a few minutes to adjust, tears streamed down her face. She needed something to hit, someone to hurt. She hadn't thought it would hurt this bad, was the kid clawing his way out?

She saw Shippo standing not far from them, she didn't want to worry him and tried to smile. It turned into a grimace as the next one hit her. Shura surprised her by sitting next to her and grabbing her hand. It gave her some comfort and helped to calm her nerves. 'You can do this Kagome, focus.' The pains soon came continous, she knew it was almost time. "Don't stare too hard down there." She tried to joke as the pain took her once more.

Yomi ignored the comment and tried not to smile. She had to be in serious pain but was trying to be strong. He was just grateful that she was no longer screaming in his ears. He'd been wanting to get her out of her pants for months now but had refrained from doing so. This wasn't how he envisioned it to be, he could hear her panting. "Start pushing when you feel the need Kagome." His eyes remained closed, the ache was dull now. He'd worry about that problem as soon as this was over. First, he had to make sure she survived the bloody delivery.

Kagome felt the urge to push, she couldn't help but scream this time. No one complained, Yomi instructed her, "Shut up, you can tell me what to do after you've shot a baby out the head of your dick." She felt the burning as the baby was pushed out of the birth canal. Her son was going to tear her in half before it was all over. Yomi's hands went between her legs as she began to push again.

Yomi could feel the baby's aura as the head came free. "Push one more time Kagome." The girl did as he asked, he was able to pull the child out. His lusty cry filled the room, Yomi went to work cutting the cord.

Kagome watched while Yomi took care of the child, she got nervous when the blind man went to cut the cord. Exhaustion was starting to kick in but she wanted to hold her baby first. Minutes later he brought the baby back cleaned and wrapped up. She stared at her son and almost began to cry. He looked exactly like his father, especially the eyes. Her eyes closed while she watched him trying to think of a name.

Yomi watched the girl sleep after feeding her child for the first time. He took the time to study the child's aura again. He was sure what he sensed and now saw. Both had slept for the first ten hours after the birth then woken up only for the child to feed. In that time he'd taken the time to clean up and question Shura about his own problem. He vaguely remembered standing there thinking about the girl that was laying upon the bed. Then the pain had been felt causing him to lash out. Seemed Shura had attacked him while he was very distracted and had injured him. Kagome had healed his head and face, unknowingly his eyes. How could she make his eyes regenerate after so long? The cells should have been dead not to mention the nerves.

The pain in his head was still there, he assumed due to the nerves readjusting and the muscles. His eyelids still were tender, aching whenever he tried to open them. His sight was still hazy at best but improving by the hour. Seeing again was making him feel off balance. Which was why he'd closed them when helping Kagome during her labor and while finding her. He hadn't meant to scare her that badly. Having his eyes returned to him had been a great shock. The tournament was a little over a year away, would it interfere with his fighting?

He opened his eyes once more to get a look at the woman that had given him back his light. For months he'd tried to picture exactly what she looked like. Images had entered his mind, even his dreams but nothing compared to the real thing. For a human she was very exotic, she was pale after the bloodloss but he could see the beauty that she held. Seeing her caused his body to react even more. He let his gaze linger to the child lying next to her and frowned. He had a good idea of who the father was. She hadn't been that far along upon entering the Makai. There was only one youkai of that breed in the Ningenkai, Yurameshi.

Surely this wasn't the human female that the boy had been wanting to return home to. Not the girl he'd heard about, the one Yusuke had recently married. His sources said that the girl's name was Keiko, had Kagome lied about her name? The child had to belong to Raizen's heir, the markings stated as such. He could sense a small trace of Kagome in the babe, enough to keep it from being a cannibal? It had feed from her breast, so there was a good chance it had some human traits. Yusuke wasn't all youkai, not really. The child seemed to be almost all, he was sure Kagome being a miko had something to do with it.

Was this girl Yusuke's wife? He closed his eyes, letting them rest. He'd need to train his new eyes to work with the rest of his enhanced senses now. That would take time, time he didn't have. But to go into the next tournament with his senses mixed wouldn't pose well for him. If he missed the next tournament he wouldn't be angry, not for this reason. He had always hated the creature that had took away his sight. Planting his foot in his skull still hadn't eased the loss.

What would he do now that he had Yurameshi's child in his care? He didn't hate the boy, nor would he call him a friend. He'd wait for Kagome to wake up and supply some answers. It really didn't matter either way to him, why she came to be here. If she'd been his woman then Yusuke would have to accept his losses.

Ironic that he would find himself wanting a human female. He still saw nothing wrong with the consumption of humans as cattle. He rarely ate them anymore but wouldn't stop it from happening. As long as no one tried to touch the girl laying on his bed, the rest of the human race could rot. There was something special about his insane kitten. So why would Yusuke let her go? He had to be with her long enough to impregnate her, why wasn't she with him? He never figured the boy for having much sense.

Maybe he should venture into the human world and find out a few things for himself. He'd wait for Kagome to wake before he left. Kurama would be an excellent source of information for him. Plus, there was nothing like chatting with his old friend to put his mind in perspective.

Kurama smiled upon feeling the presence of his old partner, what would bring Yomi to the Ningenkai. The tournament was a year away still. "Excuse me mother, I'm going to take a short walk before dinner." He took his leave of his family and made his way out the door. His feet took him up the staircase to the door leading to the roof. There standing facing away was Yomi, "I never expected to see you here. Why have you come to the Ningenkai?"

"Is that anyway to welcome me old friend? I was nearby and thought to come and see you." Yomi was curious what the fox looked like in his human form but refrained from filling it. He'd find out soon enough but no one would know about his returned sight until he chose for them to.

"Forgive me, I'm glad to see you again but be honest with me. There is a reason for you to come and it wasn't to see me." Kurama walked to stand next to him, making a note of how much stronger Yomi had become. There was also something else he couldn't put his finger on. The man's deamanor had changed as well, for the better hopefully.

"Right as always, I have a reason for coming. I want some information, nothing more. As you know I am training Shura for the next tournament. Tell me will Yusuke be entering this time? My sources tell me that he has gotten married." Yomi knew Kurama would be weary of his questions, "Come Kurama I'm making small talk, we both know I have informants if I wanted the information badly enough."

"I suppose you are right. Yes, he married Keiko not even five months yet. Why do you ask?" Kurama looked at the traffic going by on the street below. He was sure Yomi would get to his real reason very soon. His thoughts went back to his friend that was having a hard time with his marriage. "To answer your question Yusuke probably won't be entering this year's tournament."

"I guess it's kind of hard juggling marriage and his youkai life together. Strange how a woman can make such large impact on one's life isn't it Kurama. I assume she is the reason why he isn't going to be joining in." Yomi was trying to pry the information out of him quickly. True he had informants but that would take time. Then they could only get the basic facts, he wanted the inside scoop. "Can't picture Yurameshi settling down and having children."

Kurama's eyes widened in disbelief at the statement, "What have you heard Yomi?" Had he heard about Kagome's supposed pregnancy for his friend. "Let's get to the point and ask what you want, no more playing around."

"Very well, I heard that Yusuke had a child that didn't belong to his wife. Well actually, one rumor was for his wife the other stated differently." Yomi saw the many expression crossing his friend's face. "I'm merely curious Kurama, I have no need to go after Yurameshi or his family. I was just wanted to know if it was true, to know if there was another descendant of Raizen out there."

"No, the rumors are false Yomi. I'm not sure how that leaked to you but am not surprised. Yusuke did have a small affair with another human female. For a short time we believed the child to be Yusuke's. Turns out she admitted to lying about the fact, Yusuke wasn't the one to father her child. He and Keiko have decided to postpone having any children for now also. Why did you really want to know?"

"For the last five centuries I've done nothing but strive for power as you know only too well. Recently, I've met someone that has me looking for more. She is unlike anyone I've ever met, meeting her was something I hadn't been expecting. For months I've kept my distance not wanting her to know of my interest. Tell me Kurama what would you do if there was someone you wanted but knew that if you suceeded it would change everything you believed in?" Yomi smiled as Kurama contemplated the question. "Yusuke is much like myself, a fighter, he will always feel the need to better himself. Yet he is willing to let it go to be with the woman he wants. I wonder if I'd ever be able to do the same."

"I'm sorry if I can't advise you on matters of the heart Yomi. I can tell you that to find someone that you see as special enough to catch your eye must be someone great indeed. I've only met one woman that I would have thought special enough for it myself. Do what you see fit." Kurama thought about Kagome for several minutes then sighed. She was in the Reikai being taken care of. He knew what had drawn Yusuke to the girl, the samething that had drawn him.

"You're right. Maybe I'm thinking too hard on the matter. I've never been like you, planning too far ahead isn't my style. My mind isn't like yours, I guess I'll be going now." Yomi turned to walk away from the fox needing to get back to the Makai.

"One question before you leave. Is she the one that's caused this change in you?" Kurama knew what he saw now, Yomi was more at ease. "Careful, unless you want to lose the heart you try to act like you don't possess my friend."

Yomi began laughing, "Don't get sentimental on me Kurama. She is only a female, just one that I plan on having." He disappeared before another word could be spoken. So Kagome wasn't Yusuke's wife or lover, they'd had a brief affair. Why would she tell them that the kid wasn't his? She had to know that they'd be able to tell as soon as he was born.

Kagome came up with the perfect name for her baby, Lydon. She wondered where Yomi had gone, he'd been gone for almost a week. Shura was keeping Shippo in check while she recovered from her ordeal. She stared at herself in the mirror and sighed. It was hard to believe she'd just given birth to her child. Her stomach was almost back to it's original shape, her bleeding had stopped. She knew the jewel was helping her heal faster, she didn't even have stretch marks. If only she could sell her secret.

Lydon layed on the bed, his tiny hand waving in the air. Her eyes landed on the strange markings on his skin. Had to be from Yusuke's blood. Not that she cared, he was his father's son. She already loved him with all her heart. Now she'd have to see how Yomi would feel to having the child around. Her and Shippo was already imposing on him. True she did cook and clean for him but that was all. She was just lucky he hadn't demanded anything else from her as of yet.

"But would you really mind if he did?" She asked herself while twirling with a loose strand of hair. He was very attractive, well built and they got along well. Why was she even worried about it? He'd never shown any interest in her that way. He may put up with her but he didn't really care for humans as a species. She could always become a dried up old hag, live a life of lonelyness like Kaede had done. Could she really do that after knowing how good it felt to be with someone you wanted?
