Entrapment

Chapter Five

The eight stood around the arena, the fights would be held one on one until only one was left. No rules, simply kill for the prize. Yomi looked around and knew he'd been set up. These youkai were nothing compared to him and they all knew it. Seemed they hadn't known of his place in the fight.

"I don't like this. Even they know they have no chance, you are meant to win this fight." Kurama looked around. "But why? What does he have planned?"

"Guess we will soon see won't we." Yomi was curious as well. "Whatever happens, see that you get the jewel. I can take care of myself. Be ready for anything as soon as the last man falls."

The four stood behind him, they didn't like it either. Manzo sat on a seat close to the ring to watch closely. Soon he would have it all. He yelled out, "Let the first match begin."

Yomi stepped into the ring, his first fight only lasted a second. He almost felt bad about taking the man's life but the rules were you had to kill your opponent. He stepped out the ring almost as soon as he entered it. Thirty minutes later he was stepping back inside to take on his next opponent. A minute later Yomi was standing next to Kurama waiting to see who'd he have to kill next.

"Be prepared for anything, as soon as he falls." Yomi gave the last warning to the four. He stepped into the ring with his last opponent. The man eyed him warily, as if accepting death already. "You chose this." Yomi killed him, the man fell to the arena floor.

Manzo smiled, now it was time to claim both his prizes; the rulership and the jewel. He clapped his hands congratulating the blind youkai. He stepped into the ring, as soon as he stepped inside the barrier went up. "I knew you could do it, I'm disappointed though. They could have at least scratched you. No matter, now claim your prize."

Yomi took a step back, when he felt the magic. Suddenly, he felt weights going on his arms. Invisible cuffs landed on his wrists and ankles pulling him down. "What?"

Kurama tried to run forward, the barrier knocked him back. Hiei helped him off the ground. "What's going on?"

Manzo started to laugh hysterically. "Simple, I'm brilliant. I started out planning on obtaining the jewel but as luck would have it the Makai Ruler will die."

"Why?" Yomi asked.

"Simple, I had my second in command fetch that girl. I thought I finally had the jewel within my grasps. That bitch is a lot stronger than I gave her credit for. Even under the spell, her body has erected a barrier to make the jewel unattainable. I tried to get past it but it is impossible. I needed her to die in order to obtain what I want. So I decided to put a life bond on the girl. Bond her life with that of a youkai, then kill him. Her death should have been accomplished. I tried the bonding on several of my own. Seemed it wouldn't work on someone weak. I needed someone just as powerful as she to make the bonding work properly."

"So you decided to have a tournament." Kurama cursed, why hadn't they seen it.

"Yes, the scroll you signed was your own death." He was looking at Yomi as he spoke. "You now share a life bond with the girl. No one can save you, you are powerless with my barrier in place. I will kill you while they watch. With your death, the jewel will be mine." He formed a sword of energy.

Yomi tried to move, he couldn't even release his energy. He'd played right into his hands. Too cocky and sure of himself to see the obvious.

Kagome felt the spell release, which meant Yomi had won. It also meant that this Manzo's spell had worked, which meant if Yomi died so would she. Her mind kicked into gear, she got up to look around. She was in some kind of stone structure. Her guess close to the tournament grounds. That bastard wouldn't want to have to go far to fetch her corpse. She quickly got up and ran until she ran into a youkai.

"Where you going girly?"

He charged her, she brought her foot up to kick him in the face. He fell back dead, a huge hole where his face should of been. He had a sword on him, good enough. She grabbed it and ran out, she was being pulled in this direction. She'd go with it. The bond was more than likely warning her.

Her heart stopped when she saw what should be Yomi standing in the middle of a ring unable to move. Manzo was starting to rush him with some type of sword. Like hell she'd let him kill her without laying a finger on her. She concentrated and erected a barrier around the youkai.

Manzo brought the sword down, laughing. Shock crossed his face as he was suddenly sent back, skin burning. He landed on the arena floor several feet away. "What?"

"Hey asshole." Kagome shouted getting his attention. "Forgetting about someone?"

"You bitch." He stared at his injured skin. How could she erect a barrier around him? He'd been about to obtain what was rightfully his.

"This bitch is about to kick your ass." She looked the ugly youkai over, he was beyond ugly. He reminded her of an oversized Jaken with blue skin. He charged her, she smiled.

His brought his sword down and she brought up her borrowed one up to block. Her energy surged into the metal causing it to turn bright pink. Within seconds the sword made out of his youkai energy dissolved, purified. He screamed, seeing his own death in her eyes. She brought a small fist around slamming it into his face. His left side was burnt as he skidded back a few feet.

The others stood back and watched, not sure if they wanted to interfere. The man got back to his feet, wobbling; he tried to make a run for it. Hiei landed in front of him, taking his head.

He looked down at the corpse. "Pathetic."

Yomi felt the weight disappear but didn't move. He could sense the barrier still around him. He'd thought for damn sure he was going to be killed by the lesser youkai. Then again the man had done his damage, even if he was dead. He could feel the bond already growing with the girl. The ruler of the Makai was now bonded to a human miko for life.
