Choosing

"You do it," Koronue stated. He wanted to bed the girl, he wasn't ready to have a lifetime mate.

"What! Why me, you want her." Youko said. "Why don't you do it, it will increase your chances of having her."

"Fuck that, I'm not doing it. I will not bind myself to a woman. Just let her die??"

Youko looked down at the small woman in his arms. Her breathing was becoming shallow, could he just sit here and do nothing while she died? "Fuck, fine." He moved her hair to the side. He took a deep breath and did it. He felt her blood rush into his mouth, gliding over his tongue. He bit down on his wrist causing his own blood to flow. Koronue helped pry her mouth open, she choked as her sore throat tried to swallow the hot metalic liquid. When he thought she'd had enough he removed his wrist from her mouth.

"I can't believe you did that." Koronue said. "You gotta be out of your mind. What if she turns out to be some possessive lunatic?"

"Fuck you man. Would you really have let her die?"

"No, but I knew you wouldn't either." Koronue laughed.

"Asshole. Hand me those supplies so I can make sure she's going to heal." The bat handed him the box and went to rinse out the rag. The kit bounded up and peered at him.

"Is Kagome going to be okay now?" He didn't like how pale she was.

"Yeah, what the hell just happened? Why would the hanyou attack her?" He asked. They'd both been sure it had been him. Having seen him before.

"It wasn't Inuyasha, it was Naraku. He's a hanyou that can change his form. He must have known that she was alone without anyone to tell the difference. Well besides me and I'm just a kid. Inuyasha is a jerk but he'd never hurt Kagome. Oh, and he's going to be mad when he sees that you marked her. He gets mad all the time when Kouga comes around trying to mate with her." He added as a matter of fact.

"Looks like you've bitten off more than you can chew, my friend." Koronue handed him the clean cloth. "Don't worry, we'll figure something out."

"Thanks," He had to remove her blouse to get to the new wound. He was seeing a lot of her body today. Luckily it had missed piercing her heart. She had some kind of strange contraption covering her breast which kept some of her modisty intact. He sighed to see that the bleeding had stopped. After patching her up, he wrapped her up with the blanket the kit brought over. He sat down with her in his arms and waited for her friends to arrive.

Sango and Miroku made it back before the hanyou. It had taken over two hours to find him and when they did it turned out bad. Him and Kikyo had been busy doing something not worth repeating. They'd dropped down right beside them, Kirara's fault. Inuyasha started cursing at them, outraged that they had found him in that position. It took several minutes for the hanyou to get dressed and calmed down. Then they informed him of the attack and that Kagome had been injured. Kikyo still hadn't wanted the hanyou to leave.

He swore he'd find her later but he had to go check on Kagome. She was his best friend. He felt the guilt assault him as he ran. Once again, he'd let Kagome down to be with Kikyo. Would she forgive him this time. For some odd reason he felt that something had changed.

Sango jumped off Kirara at seeing her friend in the fox's arms. "What happened?"

The bat stepped in front of the two weapon drawn, Sango stopped in her tracks. Inuyasha joined them, he scanned the area and saw the girl. "Kagome."

"Don't come any closer." Koronue saw the hanyou stop, he was sure these were the real deal but had to be sure. "Kit?"

Shippo bound forward and sniffed, "It's okay, its them."

"What the fuck is going on and get your hands off her." Inuyasha stomped forward.

"Sit boy." It was softly spoken but loud enough for the hanyou to hit the ground. Kagome looked up into piercing gold eyes and felt her heart stop. She couldn't remember how they had saved her but she knew it had been them.

Sango ran forward when Koronue lowered his weapon, "What happened after we left?"

Shippo spoke up. "We were waiting when Inuyasha showed up. He went straight to Kagome, she thought it was him."

"What the fuck are you talking about I just got back?" Then it dawned on him, "Fuck, is she okay?"

"I think so but Naraku managed to stab her in the chest before these two knew anything was wrong." They understood that, how could they have known about Naraku. Shippo felt the tears start to fall, "I thought she was going to die."

Miroku stepped forward, "It would seem we are once again in your debt."

"Well, Inuyasha's going to be mad." Shippo stated.

"Why is that Shippo?" Sango asked. Why would he be upset, they had obviously saved Kagome's life. True the fox was holding the girl and the hanyou was somewhat protective.

"Cause he claimed her." He stated. He waited for the outburst and hid.

"WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU JUST SAY?" Inuyasha couldn't get up yet and he was pissed.

Kagome heard everything and felt her heart stop at that statement. One of them had claimed her but why. Even if she was dying, they owed her nothing. She heard Inuyasha's cursing and sighed. She didn't know what being claimed entailed but she wouldn't hold whomever did it to anything. She was just glad to be alive.

Inuyasha felt the magic release him and stood up. He was going to kill someone. "Which one of you did it. Let me guess, you." He was looking at the fox demon holding his Kagome.

"What of it?" Youko pulled the girl closer in his arms just to piss the hanyou off. Not being one to hold his tongue he spoke before Inuyasha could. "You got the nerve to stand there and act outraged when everyone here can spell the scent of that dead woman all over you. Let me assure you the smell of a dead woman's arousal isn't very pleasant to the nose. You reek of death and decay, I think we all know what had you occupied for so long. Long enough for your enemy to take advantage of your absence. If not for me and Koronue the girl would be dead. You lost all rights to be outraged when you abandoned the girl to go claim the dead woman."

Inuyasha didn't know what to say but Kagome did. "Sit. Sit. Sit. Sit." So he had been off fucking her. Her and her friend's had almost been killed so he could get layed.

Koronue spoke down to the girl in his friend's arms. "Sorry we didn't ask your permission Kagome, it was something that had to be decided quickly in order to keep you alive. I'd hate to be the one to point it out but even if the hanyou had gotten back in time to do it himself, he would have been unable. Since he's already marked the dead woman. We both were aware of this fact having come across them ourselves. We only did what we thought necessary."

"I understand, thank you for sparing my life. I don't know anything about it but I'm sure it isn't something to be taken lightly." She spoke to Youko, "I owe you my life."

"And all I ask is that you don't try to uphold the customs." He said.

"What do you mean?" She asked.

"I never planned on taking a mate, I don't want one. I am a thief, I will not have some woman holding me down. I saved your life by giving you my mark but I will never bed you. I will leave and walk away without you. You will allow this."

It wasn't a question but a demand. Kagome would have agreed either way. She had no claims on him, she hardly knew him. "Of course."

"Very well, we will be leaving. Keep yourself safe." He handed her over to the hanyou that just stood up scowling at him. He mentally scolded himself when he had the urge to keep the girl in his arms.
