Alone and Lost
Chapter Six
The chirping of crickets echoed through the cave. Sango slowly opened her eyes, looking around the dark cave. He was gone! She couldn't sense him anywhere near. She'd fallen asleep while he'd layed on her chest. It had felt so comfortable cradling him on her chest while she stroked his hair. Dark had fallen, from the looks of it he'd been gone awhile. Sighing she got up to walk over to her discarded clothing. Kneeling down beside them tears began to fall.
She couldn't go back and change anything, the damage had been done. She'd just given her virginity to a youkai that was in love with her best friend. Not to mention that she'd cheated on the man she loved. How could she still plan on marrying him now, would he even still want to marry her? Tears kept coming as the impact of what happened hit her. She should have resisted longer or found another way. For her it would change everything, yet he'd walked away without looking back. How was she to go on acting like it hadn't happened? Her friends would need to know what happened. Miroku would have to be told.
Pulling herself together she washed off the best she could. Getting dressed took some time, her thighs were slightly bruised. She would have to find the others or hope they found her. It meant going out during the night but she refused to stay here overnight.
She stepped out the cave, sighing when nothing interfered with her exit. The only weapon she had was her sword, hopefully it would be enough. The going was slow, hell she wasn't even sure where she was. Her friends could very well be in the opposite direction of where she was heading. Kouga could have at least stayed long enough to help her find the others. 'What an asshole.' The moon was high overhead. Would have been beautiful if she wasn't in such a bad mood.
Hoots could be heard as she walked through the trees and foilage. After walking for several hours she decided to take a break. Thankfully she spotted a tree that looked climbable. The bark was rough against her back and the branch was digging into her tail bone. She really didn't see how Inuyasha managed to look so comfortable while he slept. Hopefully she wouldn't wake up on the ground.
Kagome tried to reassure Miroku once again. Sango was fine, they'd find both her and Kouga. Yet, it was the next day and it had been raining since noon. They'd lost the butterfly last night so they decided to make camp. There was nothing they could do now but to continue searching. Inuyasha told him not to get upset. Sango was a fighter and the wimpy wolf was with her. If the gang didn't find them, then Kouga would find Kagome.
The rain was finally letting up, coming down in a slight drizzle. Kagome was starting to worry herself until she felt that familiar tug at her soul. "Inuyasha stop. Two jewel shards are coming this way."
"Hnnn. Told you the wimpy wolf would find us." The hanyou stopped and let Kagome down from his back. "Now will you stop worrying Miroku."
Kagome shielded her fast as the small whirlwind stopped in front of her knocking Inuyasha aside. Sure enough Kouga grabbed her hands and she pulled them back. "Kouga, glad to see you are safe."
"Were you worried about me Kagome?" He grinned down at her.
"Of course, we were worried about both of you." Her eyes looked around expecting to see her best friend join them at any second.
Miroku stepped forward, "Yes, we are glad to see that you are safe. Where is Sango?" He didn't see her; surely she would be here by now.
Kouga turned to look at the houshi, confused. He looked around seeing that the taijiya was not there. He didn't understand, he'd sensed the group not far from the cave. They had made camp last night only a short distance from the cave he and the girl had been in. All she would of had to do was walk straight ahead for about thirty minutes and she'd have ran right into them. They should have caught her scent, as she approached. "She's not here?"
"If she was we wouldn't be out looking for her." Inuyasha stepped in between the two. "We thought you two had been taken together. If she wasn't with you then where the hell did she go?"
"She was with me. I left her not far from where you were camped last night. I figured she'd find you."
"You baka. What was so damn important that you couldn't have made sure she made it safely back?" Inuyasha demanded.
"Shut up, it's not my fault."
Kagome ran over to Miroku who was climbing on Kirara along with Shippo. She climbed on behind him, "Let's head back Kirara." They took off into the air leaving the two bickering.
Sango cursed her luck, seemed she'd gone the wrong way. Not that it mattered, she could always head back to the cave. Maybe Kouga would find the others soon. 'What does that matter? If he finds them he'll stay long enough to fawn over Kagome then rush off.' But is was the only hope she had. Maybe the others would ask about her. Then again who knew how long it would be before he went to find them again. Dusk was begining to fall once more and the rain didn't seem to be stopping.
Loud growling was heard, she stopped in her tracks. She unsheathed her sword waiting, it was coming from in front of her. From the way she'd just came. Whatever it was; it must have been following her. Within seconds she spotted two large red eyes glowing in the bushes. It was stalking her, waiting for the right moment to pounce. Taking another step forward she forced it to come out.
A large cat youkai came out, teeth showing. It resembled Kirara except the coat was black and dingy. It eyes burned with hunger and rage. Saliva dripped from it's mouth as it charged. She leapt out the way, trying not to get hit with it's sharp claws. Fighting would be easier if she had Hiraikotsu. The sword lashed out striking the beast across the side. It spun around at her, his back claws swiping at her legs. She felt a searing pain right above her left knee.
She managed to back up a few feet as the cat stood watching her. It leapt in the air coming right down on her knocking her to the ground. The sword was shoved up through it's chest as he brought his mouth down on her right shoulder. She shoved the dead weight to the side. It landed in with a thud, slamming into the wet ground.
Kagome knew Kouga and Inuyasha was following behind them. Kouga had pointed out the area he'd left the girl in, so that was where they began. There was only one other way she could of gone, north. They were flying for about two hours and it was already dark. Kagome felt Miroku's worry as they searched.
Kirara suddenly growled and shot forward almost dislodging her passengers. Kagome looked around, "Do you smell Sango?" The neko landed on the ground when nothing could be seen from the sky. They climbed off her back and she took off leaving them behind.
The two men caught up to them. Inuyasha stopped beside Kagome, "Get on. We gotta hurry, I smell the same thing Kirara did."
She climbed on, "Do you smell Sango?"
"No, but I smell her blood."
They followed the direction Kirara had went. They came to a corpse lying on the ground and looked around. Kouga sniffed the air, "She was here, she's wounded."
"Which way Inuyasha?" Miroku began to panic, not knowing what shape she was in.
"This way." He leapt off following the trail, she'd left behind.
Sango leaned against the tree, trying to tend to the wound on her leg. A twig snapped to her left and she spun around. A sigh escaped her when she saw the large cat come into view. "Kirara." The cat ran towards her, Sango hugged her neck. "Where are the others?"
"Meow."
"This way." Inuyasha came from the same direction Kirara just vacated. "There she is."
Kagome got off his back and ran to her friend. "Sango, are you okay? We've been so worried."
"I'm fine." She glanced over when she felt him. Her eyes averted back to Kagome, she should have known the wolf would go right back to Kagome. "A few scratches, nothing to worry about." She stood up as Miroku came into view.
The houshi ran over to her, pulling her into his embrace. "My dear Sango."
Sango let him hold her, as long as he kept his hands to himself. She suddenly felt guilty about worrying about the houshi's hands.
He was her intended and she didn't want his hands roaming. Yet, she'd just given herself to someone she barely knew. Not to mention he was in love with her best friend. Hell who was she kidding, she'd slept with someone who would never give it another moments thought.
"She's found so I'm heading out." Kouga grabbed Kagome's hands, staring down at her. "I'll see you later Kagome." He took off leaving them to staring at empty air.
"We need to get somewhere dry and tend to her wounds. Let her go Miroku, so we can leave." Inuyasha stepped in front of Kagome. He looked at the taijiya, something seemed different about her. He couldn't place it though.
Sango climbed on Kirara minding the wound on her leg. As soon as the others were ready they took off to find a village.
