Who Were They
Chapter Five
Sango and Kagome were heading towards the entrance after their long day of fun. Both girls laughed once again remembering everything. All in all the day had been pleasant for both, giving them a much needed break. They had another hour before having to meet the family to leave. So they had decided on getting some cotton candy and sitting by the small pond on the grounds. It was near the meeting point, so after eating there'd be no rush. The stand only had an elderly guy in line ordering something, so it only took a minute to get two sticks of the candy.
Sango tasted the fluffy pink stuff she'd been handed. Its textures was weird but melted in her mouth. It was delicious, "I'll have to be careful in your time Kagome. All this food can't be healthy."
"True, its a good thing we started working out every morning. Never know when we might run into a demon."
"Yes, though they seem less hostile in this time and not as great in number. I only sensed a few of them tonight." Sango recalled feeling a strong aura coming from the little guy that had exited the ride along with several others. No one had attacked them so she had said nothing. Plus, she'd been feeling bad about injuring an innocent person. Whatever demons were here didn't seem interested in her or Kagome without the presence of the jewel. Looked like she was going to be able to live out her life as a normal woman from now on. Maybe get married have a few kids, then the thought of being with anyone besides Miroku filled her with a hollow feeling. She could never marry or be with someone she wasn't in love with. How was she to fall in love with someone else when her heart still cried for him?
Kagome found a bench over looking the water. The moon was high in the sky casting its reflection on the surface. It was beautiful to stare at, which she did for several minutes. People were walking around, mostly couples holding hands around the water. It was a place for lovers to come, which left Kagome feeling kind of out of place. "I'm starting to feel like we should be holding hands."
"I see what you mean." Sango laughed at seeing all the smiling couples. They all looked so happy, "Think we will ever find anyone else?"
"I don't know. I still love Inuyasha but my heart also tells me that he would want me to be happy. Just like I felt for him. No matter what happened I wanted him to be happy. I think Miroku would feel the same way. He knew you loved him and would have spent your life with him. But things didn't turn out that way for us. I think they both would want us to eventually move on but never forget them. Do you understand what I'm trying to say?" Kagome paused and looked at her friend.
"Yes, I do. Part of me is lonely. No offense to you of course but I don't think I'd enjoy kissing you." Sango laughed when Kagome blushed.
"None taken. You got a point though, I guess it would be hard for someone to fill Miroku's shoes. Or Inuyasha's for that matter. Guess we shouldn't look at it as a replacement since they can never be replaced in our hearts." Kagome broke out in a wide grin. "But its a good thing. I don't want to forget about them either, our journey made us what we are today. I'm a powerful miko in training while you are a kick ass youkai exterminator that likes to break noses."
"Uh, please don't remind me. I'll have nightmares about that I just know it." Sango glanced around her. Coming their was the group from earlier. Without stopping herself she spoke outloud. "Them again. Why do we keep running into them?"
Kagome turned to see who them was. The eight from earlier were walking towards them lined up as couples. She noticed that only two of the couples were holding hands though. Her heart leapt when she noticed the hot red head wasn't holding hands with the girl beside him. Which didn't mean anything, one of them could be against public displays of affection. He was still taken, sadly. The herd was almost upon them before Kagome could hear what was being said.
The four consisted as follows, Bad hair dude/his chick, the small demon/his chick, the sexy dark haired one/his hyper chick, and the hot one/and his cute girlfriend. Kagome considered herself to be plain and average. Inuyasha had even informed her on several occasions that Kikyo had been a lot cuter than herself. The only guy that had actually seemed to love her for herself had been Kouga. That was probably cause she was pleasant enough to look at and didn't have fleas. Kagome strained to hear what was being said, yeah she was nosey.
"Well, we have to decide on a place before we can make anymore plans." This came from the one she heard called Yusuke's girl.
"Just pick a stupid place already, it doesn't matter where. It's not that big of a deal." Yusuke replied.
"So, are wedding isn't that big of a deal?" The girl stopped in her tracks, which was right infront of Kagome and Sango.
Sango looked up at that bit of information. So the guy with the amazing eyes not only had a girlfriend but was getting married soon. Just her damn luck, the one person she had actually felt a small attraction to was already taken permenantly. She smirked at his comment, it wasn't bad enough to stop and start yelling really. Most men didn't put a lot of effort into weddings, not even in her time. Besides it trully didn't matter where it took place, it was the actions during the marriage that mattered. She'd settle for just having a priest stand in front of her and speak the words if it meant being with the one she loved.
"I didn't mean that." He tried to calm Keiko down before she blew up at him.
"I don't think I ever want to get married if its that much trouble." Kagome spoke to Sango but it had been loud enough for a few to hear.
Shizuru had heard the girl's comment. "I agree." Knowing that this could be awhile she took a seat next to the strange dark hair girl wearing the blue sweater. "This could take awhile. Mind if I sit down my feet are killing me?"
"No, theres plenty of room." Kagome smiled at her. Something told her she'd like this woman if she were given the chance to befriend her. But Kagome usually found something to like about everyone. Her heart was very big and forgiving. "Are they always like this. Sorry I heard them earlier also." She blushed.
"Always, why they are perfect for one another. Makes me glad I'm single." Shizuru lit her cigarette and sighed. Of course it didn't mean she'd scorn a relationship either. Even she got lonely at times.
"I don't know," Kagome thought of Inuyasha. "Sometimes the bullshit is worth putting up with. The good times over-ride the bad in someways. It just takes getting to know and understand the person, in order to love them."
Shizuru looked at the girl who's eyes held wisdom that should have been way beyond her years. She was very pretty as was the other one. They looked about her brother's age. She herself being spiritually area felt strong auras coming from both but it was good.
"Only, if you have something to knock them with when they get out of line." This came from Sango. She was thinking about all the times she'd had to hit the perverted monk over the head.
Shizuru burst out laughing causing the rest of the group to notice them, except Hiei he'd watched his so called date sit down. She continued to laugh while everyone eyed her, "Aren't you the girl who gave that guy a busted nose?"
Sango flushed. Kagome saw her friend's embarrassment and laughed with the strange woman. Sango didn't see what was so funny, it hadn't been them feeling guilty afterwards.
Kieko turned to see the so called miko and friend sitting with Shizuru. "Oh hello. I'm sorry, I didn't realize I was being so rude. You two were trying to enjoy the view and I interrupted."
"Theres no need to apologize," Kagome extended her hand being her usual friendly self. "I'm Kagome, and this is my sister Sango." The girl took her hand. "We were just about to head out anyways besides I know how you feel. I had one just like him."
"Thats for sure," Sango chirped. She'd never understood how Kagome had dealt with the hanyou's sour mood swings. One day he'd be sweet and over-protective, the next he was complaining and comparing her to his Kikyo. At least Miroku had been a constant, always a lecher. She'd have dumped Inuyasha and told him to stick the Tetsusiaga straight up his ass.
"He's not that bad really," Keiko commented. Of course, she had felt that something was missing since he'd returned. She had been telling herself it was because he was different. He'd changed in his time away, she'd learn to love this Yusuke also.
"Don't talk about me like I'm not here." Yusuke was getting irritated again. It was bad enough that while Keiko had been going on and on about the wedding plans nonstop. All the while his thoughts had been going back to the strange girl. He didn't even know her name but there she was in his mind. Now the object in his mind was sitting a few feet away talking like he wasn't even there. At least he now had a name to put with the face. "Stupid girls." He turned and walked off a few feet.
Kurama had been busy studying the little miko. She seemed very polite, if a little bit too friendly. His thoughts didn't remain on her personality for long. His eyes roamed her face for several seconds then made their way down. She was very slender but well filled for her age. Her breasts could be seen fairly well with the sweater, round and firm. At hearing Yusuke cursing, he stopped his inspection and went over to appease his friend.
Kagome stood up to talk with Keiko which caused Shizuru to slide over in her seat to speak with Sango. Another cigarette was lit as she spoke to the girl. "So where do you two go to school?"
"Oh, we don't. Actually, Kagome just finished up her schooling." Sango didn't know if she was prepared to answer too many questions about herself. Not like she could turn and tell the girl she was from 500 years in the past. "Is that your boyfriend." Sango was referring to the small demon standing not even two feet away. They had been together on the ride earlier and had been walking together so the exterminator there was a relationship between the two. Plus, without realizing it the small man was standing very close to the woman, almost in a protective stance.
"Oh hell no. Just friends but being the single ones got paired together." Shizuru almost laughed at the idea of her and Hiei. The only soft spot he had was for Yukina. On his trips to the human world, he usually spent them at Genkia's place. She'd seen him twice in the last month. Both times he'd hardly spoken to her. Without knowing it somehow she'd started liking the little demon. He seemed almost as lonely as she.
A 'Hn.' was heard but they ignored it. Sango glanced over at him. He seemed very protective indeed of the woman he'd been 'paired up with.' But who was she to say anything? "So you are single too."
"Yep, I take it you are too. Not that its a bad thing. Its kind of hard to move on after losing someone you love." Shizuru stated. Her thoughts on Sakio (how the hell do you spell his name anyways?) She'd only known him for a few days but he'd touched a part of her heart.
"Another thing we have in common, I recently lost my intended. I'm not sure how to move on." Sango felt tears well in her eyes. One slid down her cheek, others were soon flowing. She got up not wanting to cry in front of complete strangers. "Excuse me." She took off running.
Kagome turned when Sango took off. Shizuru had a pained look on her face, "I'm sorry, once again I should have left the cigarette in my mouth." The young miko merely smiled at her and without saying goodbye to anyone took off after her friend. The crowd was getting full as people were making their way home. She spotted Sango entering the restroom and went in after her.
Shizuru felt awful for making the girl cry. It was going on four years since she'd lost her man but this girl's loss had been recent, very recent from the pain it had caused.
"Good going Sis, we can't take you anywhere." Kuwabara stated. A few lumps later he shut up. Yusuke and Kurama walked back over upon hearing the boy scream in pain.
"What's up?"
"I'm not saying anything," Kuwabara went to Yukina. "Will you heal my booboo?"
"Um, what happened?" Keiko asked also. "Is she going to be okay?"
"Her sister went after her, so I'm sure the girl will be fine." Hiei stated. Really, humans and their emotions. They had just been speaking of the dead. No need to get all emotional, everyone died. He'd never let himself get that sappy over another. He cared for his sister and his friends but crying for them was out of the question. Okay, he'd shed a tear or two for his sister but that was the line. This whole romance thing left him bewildered. He saw nothing that would make someone stay with the same old person year after year. True the body had sexual needs, thats why you found someone to fulfill them and moved on. Getting attached to someone only left yourself open to be wounded or used.
"Well, I wish we'd have found out more than their first names. I really enjoyed talking to Kagome." Keiko sighed. They'd probably never see the two girls again. Which left the whole group wondering, who they were.
