Chapter Five

'I'm really here! Within a day or two, I'll be meeting my father for the first time. It's been twenty years since he's seen mom, will he go back with me? Will he even care that she's hurt? Will I have to beg him to come back with me? Hope not, I'm not to good at asking for something I want.' Takara sighed and looked over at the girl sitting across the fire. She'd spent the last two days following behind Kora. The wolf had to slow her pace somewhat so she could keep up. After moving for so long Takara had asked if they could rest for a bit. After all she was mostly human.

Takara massaged her neck, trying to take the kink out. It was night; cooling the temperature some. A light breeze was blowing helping to cool her heated skin. It was a good thing she didn't burn and peel because she'd forgotten her sun block. Kora said they'd be at the 'castle' tomorrow evening. Another couple of days and she'd be back home with her mother.

"Whatcha thinking about?"

"Oh, nothing really. Just want to get this over with so I can return home." Takara stretched her legs out.

"Must be nice to have a home to return to."

"You don't have a home?" She asked.

"Nope, not anymore. I did when I was a child but that was many years ago."

"How about family, I remember you saying something about your father."

"Yes, my father is with Lord Sesshoumaru."

She cocked her head to the side. She really had no idea what was going on. All she knew was her father's name and what Gran had told her about the jewel. Of course she'd been told that a hanyou named Naraku had once been after the jewel. "How come Naraku controls most the land?"

"You don't know?"

"Nope."

"Where have you been for the last eighteen years?"

"Home." It was all she could say.

Kora sat on her knees and leaned forward. "Well, I can only tell you what I know. And it is all second hand information. Let me start with myself. From what I know, my father fought with Naraku around twenty years ago or so. Somehow Naraku obtained all the shards except a single one. I heard my mother once say that the one miko strong enough to purify it and Naraku suddenly disappeared one day. Another miko tried but her body that wasn't really alive was destroyed. Something like that. Ever since that miko disappeared Naraku has slowly taken over. Most are afraid to oppose him. He has a large army of offspring. Where we are going is a place where the former Lord of the Western Lands rules. Its a base for those that fight against Naraku basically. Maybe about two hundred youkai there. All trying to working together to find a way to destroy him."

"Have you ever been to this place?"

"Nope!" She smiled big. "To be honest I haven't seen my father since my mother was killed over ten years ago. He left me with some relatives so I'd be safe. I ran away about a week ago to go join him."

"So he doesn't know you are coming?"

"No, its probably a good thing he'd tell me to go home. He'll tell me to once I'm there but I figure by then it'll be too late."

"I'm sure you can't wait to see him again." Takara pulled out her sheet.

"True, I miss him terribly. He is all I have left. So what about your family?"

"I have my mother, Gran, and Uncle Souta. That's it for close family." Takara stated.

"What about your father?"

"I don't have a father."

"Well you have to have a father, you're here. Did he die?"

"NO, I've never met my father. He's still alive from what I've been told." As far as she was concerned she didn't have a father. True, the female wolf was taking her straight to him but he was just someone her mother once knew.

"Thats sad. Well lets try and get some sleep."

Takara could feel the tension building in her stomach. She'd be lucky not to puke in his face, her nerves were officially shot. So much depended on him coming back. What if they had parted on bad terms? What if he preferred her to die? If he said as much, she'd tear his head off. Anxiety consumed her at the thought. She had no idea what she'd say to him. Maybe she had been too hasty in coming here? 'No, I'm doing it for Mom.'

"That's it up there, I think anyways." Kora came to a stop suddenly. She seemed to be sniffing the air, "Can you smell that?"

Takara stopped and tried to concentrate, then she smelled it. A couple different scents filled her nostrils, "We're surrounded. I'd guess about four maybe five. One of em really needs a bath." She took her katana out and waited for something. What happened took her by suprise.

From the direction they'd just came a very large youkai came crashing through the forest. It looked like a huge minitaur with four eyes. It charged straight at the girls, both jumped aside.

The youkai came to a screeching halt. Ginta and Hakaku looked down from their post in the trees. They weren't suppose to interfere unless someone actually tried to enter the barrier. Yet, the two females had shown up then suddenly been attacked. Orders were orders they couldn't interfere. Ginta watched as the silver hair girl spun out the way bringing her weapon across the youkai's thigh.

It turned glaring at the girl that jumped back. "The jewel shard give it to me."

Hakaku gasped, "Ginta, you think?"

"Yeah, I'll get the others."

Takara almost doubled over. 'You gotta be shitting me.' Could these youkai really tell that she had the jewel shard. The ugly beast glared at her, snorting. The locket was tucked safely in her cleavage, it wasn't going anywhere unless someone dug for it. It charged her again. "Fuck."

Kora ran forward crouching in time to swing her leg out. The minitaur tripped over the limb falling to his face. He was back on his feet within seconds.

"Give it to me!" He charged the silver hair girl once more.

There was no way she was handing it over. It was the only means back to her mother, back home. She didn't move as he ran towards her. Suddenly, she was being lifted off the ground. The youkai crashed over the spot she'd just vacated, howling in frustration. She tilted her head to see who had her. Her breath caught in her throat.

'It's him.' She felt her feet land on the ground once more. The arm holding her waist released her and she tried to breath normally.

"The shard, hand it over girl." The minitaur lowered it's large head, preparing to charge again.

Takara watched every head turn to her at his announcement. She shrugged her shoulder, like she had no idea what he was talking about.

Suddenly another youkai appeared out of nowhere kicking the minitaur across the face. He landed on his feet, "You're suppose to kill it dog-shit not make friends."

"Shut up you wimpy wolf. I was about to kill it. Who told you to come anyways?"

"Ginta came to me first, it just took me a minute to get dressed." He walked towards the fallen youkai. "Now, lets see what we have here?"

"Just kill the damn thing you cocky bastard."

"FATHER!" Kora screamed. The man turned and gawked for several seconds.

"What the hell are you doing here?"

"It's good to see you too." She ran and hugged him. "I'm glad I found you."

The minitaur got back on its feet and ignored everyone but the girl with the shard. "I must have the shard." He ran towards her, past both wolf youkai.

Inuyasha turned to the girl standing behind him. "Heh, stupid fool. You will die for nothing, there's no way she has a shard." He swiped the youkai with his claws. It landed in a few pieces at his feet.

Kora shoved her father away and ran over to her new companion. "Are you okay, Takara?"

"Yes, I'm fine. Thanks for the help." She smiled at the red head.

"Why did he seem so intent on attacking you? Everyone knows that Naraku has the jewel and the last shard is lost. It's not like you actually have it." Kora stated.

Takara looked over at the few youkai now surrounding her. Her new companion/friend, her father, a few other youkai and HIM. She didn't know where to begin, so she simply blurted. "See that's just it. I do have it."
