5.Face From the Past

Chapter Five

Rae stretched her arms over her head yawning out loud. She'd been reading for hours it seemed. Seemed the only ones that could read any of the scrolls and text were her and Sesshomaru. She looked up to find him staring at her with a strange light in his eyes. "Umm, excuse me. Didn't mean to yawn that loud." Yet, he still continued to stare. 'What do I have something on my face?' She turned her attention back to the book she was reading. 'Maybe he didn't like what I found earlier. Guess I'd be slightly upset if I found I was suppose to have died. Usually, I'd be excited about some cute guy staring at me but he's starting to freak me out. Kagome told me he found the thought of human women as a lover disgusting and below him. So he's staring for another reason. I must have a bugger on my face.' Her hand reached up on impulse to make sure nothing green and slimy was attached to her face.

Sesshomaru watched the girl as she read. That feeling began to find its way back. It was trying to tell him that he knew her from somewhere. He silently argued with himself, 'She is not from this time. This Sesshomaru couldn't have seen her before today. She said she is a reincarnation of the girl that had helped seal the gods over 300 years ago. I wasn't born yet so how could I have seen her?' Yet the feeling wouldn't go away, only got stronger the longer he watched her. Having felt his gaze she glanced up to seek his eyes. Inuyasha and his wench were sitting in front of the fireplace conversing. The girl pulled her long braid to the side and glanced over when Kagome laughed at something the hanyou said. His eyes focused on the smooth skin along her shoulder and let his eyes wander up. His eyes landed on the mark placed at the back of her neck at her hairline. His eyes widened and he stood up knocking over his chair. "Where did you get that mark human?"

Kagome had been sitting listening to Inuyasha speak of his last two years without her. He'd travelled around some staying mostly to the western lands. She felt her cheeks turn red when he stated he'd waited at the well for her return for almost a year."I tried to come back. Now I know I was meant to stay for a reason."

"But you are back now," he reached over to grab her hand. A loud crash and Sesshomaru's voice broke through their moment.

Rae jumped at his voice. She turned to see him stalking towards her, "What?"

He grabbed the girl by her arm hauling her to her feet. He reached into her hair pulling it aside to expose the mark. Upon closer inspection he saw that there was no mistake. Now he knew where he'd seen her before, he turned to his brother and miko. "Come, I have discovered something. I know where we can find the rest of our answers."

Rae wasn't given a choice in the matter as she was dragged out the study into a long hallway. Inuyasha and Kagome quickly followed curious as to what had Sesshomaru so upset. They were led into a second hallway that ended at two double doors. A seal of some kind was placed preventing anyone from entering. Sesshomaru turned to his half-brother, "This is our father's room. I had it sealed after his death. I haven't been in this room for a long time. Even in my youth I only entered the room once when he was alive. Before we enter, Inuyasha let me ask you this. Did you realise that our father only marked one woman. We dog demons can only share our life's blood one time. So we tend to share it with the mate we mark and claim as our life mate. My mother was never marked nor was yours."

"And your point?" Inuyasha had already known that his mother had never been marked. He had always assumed it had been because of Sesshomaru's mother.

"Dear brother the reason lies in this room." He removed the seal and opened the chamber. They walked into the spacious room. Dust covered everything that hadn't been covered with sheets. He pulled the girl over to left wall where a huge painting was hung draped with a red cloth. "Before he chose my mother father had already marked a female. A HUMAN to be exact, something happened and father never spoke of her. One day I snuck in here and saw the truth." He reached up and yanked the red cloth down exposing the painting to everyone.

Kagome gasped, the painting was of Raelene. Well sort of, the young woman was standing in an open field with her back turned. Her hair was blowing freely in the wind, her face was turned to the side leaving only half to the viewer. "It kind of does look like you Rae."

"Hmph, just because they resemble each other doesn't mean anything. So she looks like the girl in the painting what of it?" Inuyasha brushed past Kagome to take a better look.

"When I came upon the picture I was fascinated so much that I was soon caught by my mother. She found me gazing upon it and stood beside me. Her only words were, "He won't speak of her. I'm afraid his love for her is eternal." I didn't understand what she meant of course. But the proof is here." He brought her around to show the hanyou the mark upon her neck. "That is our family crest. Seems even after being reincarnated she still bears his mark. Seems our father loved his human mate with his entire heart and soul."

"Wait are you telling me that the girl that helped seal those two was our father's mate?"

"Thats exactly what I'm telling you. Explains why he never spoke of it or her. Either way I have a few questions and there is only one flea that can answer them." He left them there to go send for Myouga.

Inuyasha was sitting in the study once again but this time him and Sesshomaru were alone. Both girls had been shocked at the declaration. One of the servants had taken them to a room where they could lay down and get some rest. Sesshomaru still looked pissed not that he could blame him. If what he said was true and their father's mark was still present then she was in truth the Lady of the Western Lands. Myouga took his time in returning to the castle.

He came in to find a glaring Sesshomaru and a irritated Inuyasha. "You have called for me Lord Sesshomaru?"

"Myouga you were my father's retainer," at the fleas nod he continued. "Tell me of my father's life mate."

Myouga felt his jaw drop, how'd did Sesshomaru find out about her? The few that knew of the girl weren't allowed to speak of her. Of course Lord Inataisho was dead but still. Maybe Sesshomaru had found out the true reason behind the forging of their swords. "What would you like to know, My Lord?"

"Everything."

Myouga sat down on Inuyasha's shoulder deciding it was the safest place. "Well, before you were born your father himself wasn't too fond of humans. One day your father was injured near a village not far from his lands. Two monks had spotted your father and attacked him for no reason. I guess they assumed the worse with him being a demon. Even I hate to admit it your father had trouble not getting himself killed. It was rumored that there was a family staying at that very same village that had immense spiritual powers. During the battle, a priestess and a young woman who turned out to be the village elder's daughter came to see what the fuss was about. An arguement ensued and the girl accused the two monks of harming someone innocent merely on prejudice. Seems your father was injured terribly from the battle. The girl ordered men from the village to take his Lordship to the main house and there she tended to him. I found your father there as a matter of fact, and it was obvious he'd was quite taken with the human girl. Not that I blame him she was a sight to behold especially for a human. After his wounds healed he left the girl asking if he could call upon her again. In my opinion your father loved her immensely. Not long after he took the girl as his life mate. After that I can only tell you of rumors that speculate on the girl's death."

"Continue," Sesshomaru was most interested.

"Well, one of the monks that had confronted your father that day had been trying to court the girl. If the rumors were true he swore vengence against your father. Somehow their sister found out what they were planning and the only way for her to stop it would be a sacrafice made out of love. The lady volunteered, knowing that if they suceeded the first person they would go after would be your father. I assume she felt partly to blame and did what she thought was right. Upon hearing the news your father tried to stop it but came too late. The girl was already dead and the brothers sealed somewhere. I can't tell you the specifics but thats the jist of it. Your father never spoke of her again but never got over it. As a matter of fact thats why he had your swords forged. Me and Toutousai believe he had the Tetsusagai forged because he somehow felt that he failed to protect the human girl he loved. The Tensaiga because deep down he wanted to bring her back. Why do you ask anyway?"

"You saw this girl then?" Sesshomaru stood up ordering the flea to follow.

"Yes my lord, a few times actually." He jumped upon his shoulder deciding it was safe. They followed the hallway till they reached the sleeping quarters. He opened the door without knocking and stepped inside. The first person Myouga noticed was Lady Kagome sleeping upon a bed. Surely he hadn't been brought here to see her. Sesshomaru stopped at the side of the bed away from Kagome. Myouga looked down and couldn't believe his eyes. "Lord Sesshomaru thats her."

"Yes, I assumed as much. And it would seem she still bears my father's mark."

"How is that possible? I saw your father burn her body with my own eyes." He jumped down onto the bed landing next to the girl.

"She is from the same time as Inuyasha's wench. Seems she has been reincarnated but still bears the mark." Sesshomaru saw the girl begin to stir. Her scent began to make its way to his nose. He inhaled her scent sharply and his thoughts began to run wild. Even after finding out who she was her scent still drew him. Seemed that some of the benifits of sharing blood still remained with the girl. She had been able to hear Inuyasha earlier and even now her wound was healing faster than a normal human should allow. What was it about this girl that had caused his father to love her even after death? He turned on his heels and walked out the room.

Rae rolled over in her sleep, nearly squashing the flea. He remembered the way the Lady of the Westerns Land's blood had tasted. The temptation was too strong and she woke up when she felt something take a bite out of her cheek. She brought her hand up slapping whatever it was.

"Ouch," Myouga flittered to the ground.

"Who's there?" She knew she heard someone but couldn't see anyone. A flea landed on her nose and began speaking to her.

"I am Myouga at your service, My Lady."

"A talking flea, whats next flying carpets and unicorns?" She stood up feeling something tugging at her soul. "Hmm, I wonder."
She left Kagome sleeping and exited the room. The talking flea seemed content to jump on her shoulder for the ride.

"Where are we going? Thats Lord Inutaisho's chambers, I don't believe we are allowed in there." Myouga scanned the area and noticed that Lord Sesshomaru had returned to the study with Inuyasha.

"Who cares." She pushed the door open and entered the spacious room. The old room began to disappear and a vision flashed before her eyes. She saw herself standing beside the bed next to a tall demon that greatly resembled Sesshomaru. His long hair was pulled high on his head flowing freely down his back. He was a sight to behold causing her breath to catch. She watched as a door closed to their left. They stood before the door, Rae's hand twitched when she watched herself make a long cut across her palm followed by the demon. Placing their hands upon the door it instantly vanished no longer seen. He brought her into his arms and held her. 'They are safe now,' he spoke softly.

The vision was gone almost as quickly as it had came. "Myouga go get Sesshomaru."

"But he will be most displeased when he finds you here." Myouga didn't want to see the girl hurt. Lord Sesshomaru forbid anyone from being in his father's room.

"Now, go get them before I yell for him and wake up the whole house in the process." Myouga left in a hurry leaving her alone. She made her way over to the spot where the door had once been and the painting of her now hung. The tugging on her soul increased as she neared it.

"What are you doing in here," Sesshomaru stood at the door. Inuyasha was standing behind him also glaring. "This Sesshomaru should kill you for your foolishness."

"Bite me, come help me get this painting down will you." At his raised eyebrow she sighed. "Look, I saw something. There is something behind this painting. You'll have to trust me."

Inuyasha stepped from behind his brother and walked over to the girl. He grabbed the painting and removed it despite the growl that Sesshomaru was emitting. As soon as the painting was removed they also felt it. Removing it had broken some kind of ward hiding its true purpose. "I feel it, but I don't see anything."

"I saw something when I entered the room. I watched myself and a guy that looked a lot like Mr. Grumpy Pants over there sealing a door right here. I'm sure there is a door here."

Sesshomaru walked over towards them, "What else did you see."

"Not much, but I heard him say 'They are safe now.' She or should I say I had him hide something here." Myouga jumped on her shoulder.

"Did you see how you sealed it? Maybe we can get the door to open."

"Yes, but I'm not sure that would work. I cut myself and so did he. I'm here but he isn't." Sesshomaru growled bringing her eyes up to meet his. "But maybe we can use Sesshomaru."

Sesshomaru glared at the girl. Was she really that stupid. "That will not work. You speak of a seal made by two who have shared blood. The seal is created by the bond of blood. That is something you and this Sesshomaru do not share."

Rae wanted to give him a swift kick in the shin. "Well, I feel the need to get inside almost as if I'm being drawn to it. So I want the blasted door to open." She stomped her foot causing dust to fly up. "You are the closest thing we have, so stop being a jerk and atleast try."

Sesshomaru felt a small smile tug at the corner of his mouth at her tantrum. Her eyes blazed to life causing her face to light up which he found very appealing. "Very well, but only because the answers we seek may be beyond this door."

"Whatever, just bleed already." She held her hand out to the hanyou. "Make the cut deep enough to bleed. If it goes any deeper you'll be going out that window."

Inuyasha grabbed her hand, "Hold still then and don't complain to me when it hurts." He drew his claw across the girl's tender skin leaving a gash across the palm. Blood sprung forth filling the room with the tangy smell.

"Where should this Sesshomaru place his hand?" He followed the girl's lead as she placed her hand against the solid wall. He felt the magic jerk and swirl around his arm. For a minute he thought the magic would reject him then suddenly the door appeared. Having the seal broken he found himself staring at something he'd never known existed inside his own home. He felt anger swell towards the girl. He pushed her out the way none too gently and pried the door made out of stone open. "Inuyasha go fetch us some light."

Rae couldn't believe the nerve of the stupid dog. He pushed her out the way like she was a flea. 'What a prick, whats his problem anyways?' He had no right to treat her like that. "Asshole."

"This Sesshomaru heard that woman."

"Good I said it loud enough." She watched Inuyasha hand him a candle. She secretly wished he'd accidently set all that pretty hair on fire.

Sesshomari brought the light infront of him and stared into the small room no bigger than a closet. But he'd found what he'd been searching for, his father's missing scrolls.
