Chapter 6. An Attack On Young Rin; Revelations

InuYasha had been gone many days. No one had seen him since Rin had delivered her message. The young child sat outside Kaede’s hut, her one eyes covered by a bandage, holding a small bundle of two-tailed fur in her lap. One hand stroked Kilala’s back, humming softly, staring off into the sky. She rocked back and forth watching as two villagers walked by, talking to one another happily, smiles on their pleasant faces.

“It’s so peaceful,” Rin hummed.

“It really is...”

Turning, Rin came to face Sango leaning down at her, smiling. She sat down beside the small girl, petting Kilala’s head before turning back to look at the village itself, watching as two young boys and a girl run by, playing tag. She watched as Rin began to rock again, Kilala mewing softly, snuggling her head behind her two tails, big eyes closed in sleep.

“Has anyone seen InuYasha?” Rin asked.

“No,” Sango said softly. “The message, what was it?”

“I cannot say,” Rin said. “It was meant for, InuYasha.”

“I understand, but if it was meant for him, it hurt him to leave and not return,” Sango said quietly. “Can I know who it was from at least?”

“My lord,” Rin said with a sigh. “My lord sent me here with the message.”

“You must have been very loyal to him,” Sango said, her voice thoughtful.

“He helped me, so I helped him,” Rin spoke with a nod.

They were silent after that, watching as Miroku returned with Kaede, carrying a large basket along in front of his black and purple robes, the elderly woman speaking quietly to him. He was nodding gently to her, a smile tugging his lips. Kagome had gone home, but she had said she would be only gone the day and not more.

Sango stood, helping Kaede up the stair and into her hut. Miroku laid the basket down, running his hand along his brow, looking down at Rin, who did not return the look. He sat down beside her, watching as her brown eyes focused on one of the huts near the farthest edge of the little village, seemingly thinking.

Rin stood, handing Kilala over to Miroku and picking up her single crutch to walk down the two steps. Miroku watched her go, but didn’t stop her. She needed time alone. She had just been attacked and she was in deep distress having lost so much in so little a time. Miroku stood with Kilala in his arms, turning back to the hut and entering.

Rin turned to watch Miroku leave before limping into the wood, entering a large open field. She placed her crutch against a large boulder and laid down in the shade, sighing happily as the cool area put her at ease.

*~*~*

A dark looming figure watched as a young girl entered the field, leaning heavily on a single crutch, one eyes patched over with a thick cloth tied at the back of her head. She had many bandages, some older than others covering her many wounds, leaving her body practically mummified. The beast moved tot he side, sliding through the bushes, leaving a trail of blood in its wake.

It gurgled in it’s throat, dots of blood splattering it’s parted lips was it’s fangs oozed red crimson. The creature reached out it’s single dislocated arm, grabbing onto a branch to pull it out of it’s sight. It growled, expressing long canines. Someone joined the girl in the field, sitting on the rock to look down at her. The girl did not move, but opened her eyes. The two began to converse.

The creature snarled in it’s throat with a minimal gurgling noise, slinking closer tot he pair, leaving bloodied prints on the thick wood. It stepped closer to the pair, body cracking as it lowered down onto it’s haunches, readying itself to attack, hunger in its red orbs, staring with all focus on the meal at hand.

*~*~*

Kagome sat down on the large boulder, staring down at the small girl. She looked peaceful for someone was so scarred. Rin opened her eyes, feeling the presence of another body close to hers. She smiled at Kagome, ready to sit up but Kagome put up a hand, saying she could stay in her place and rest.

“You okay?”

“Yea. It’s still a little sore to move, but I’m getting better.”

“Good.”

They fell silent, looking into the thick shroud of trees. It was a perfectly warm day. No breeze, no clouds, just a perfect day with the warm sun beating down on them in thick sheets of heat, the grass yellowing in some areas, but not many.

“Have you found, InuYasha?”

Kagome sighed.

“I’m sorry.”

“No, it’s okay. No, we haven’t found him yet. I don’t think he wants to be found, not anymore, anyway.”

“It is sad.”

“It is.”

There was a snarl, long bladed claws, blood spilling, a loud gurgling noise, and a crash, dust rising into the air, blinding the field. Kagome coughed, holding Rin close to her body, looking through squinted eyes at what had come at them with such fury. There was no sound, the birds had stopped singing, no other sound but the light tinker of dirt hitting the ground.

‘What is that?’

There, in the shroud of dust, was a beast, eyes red, body thick with dried dirt and blood, staring at her with one eye, it’s body turned only to the side, obviously watching their every movement, long hair matted and streaked red. It turned, it’s body turned fully, a large gaping hole in it’s upper chest, rib bones and skin sticking out in odd directions.

“Rin,” Kagome whispered, slinking down very slowly. “Run.”

The pair took of for the trees, their feet pounding across the ground, panting heavily as sheets of sweat coated their foreheads, legs moving at an incredible rate. The beast snarled, it’s noise vibrating disgustingly in the field. Their was the sound of slicing wind, and the heavy beat of feet moving faster than the average human. Kagome turned, eyes widening as she was beginning to fall backward, her neck spilling vast amounts of blood. She caught sight of one red eyes glaring at her, face matted in mud and dried boils.

The creature passed her as she slumped to the ground, unable to move, unable to breath, her body becoming weak and limp, as if paralyzed. She could feel warmth on her neck, trickling down to the back of her neck and dropping with the lightest of plop onto the ground. She heard Rin scream and her small body collapse tot he ground and the sound of dragging.

‘Please... no...’

Rin crawled slowly away of the looming creature, her eyes pleading at it. It never blinked, eyes intent on her, watching her, stepping slowly as she squirmed away, her body shaking with such force it was visible to the eye. It grabbed a single blade at it’s side, pulling the log shining blue blade from it’s sheath. It turned the point down at the girl, barely touching her nose.

“Please... don’t... my lord...”

Eyes widened, the blade came down, cutting the green grass below it, the small pieces flying into the air. The girl was gone, she was no longer sitting in front of him, she was gone. He turned around, focusing red eyes on the back of a red cloaked body, silver hair falling softly down the body, cascading onto the ground.

Rin opened her eyes, focusing in on the eyes of the hanyou, his yellow orbs as dull as a cemetery in a fogged night. He stood up, keeping his back to the bloodied figure positioned behind him. It had fallen silent in the field, no movement anywhere. Just silence.

InuYasha turned, focusing in on the mutilated body of his elder sibling, his kimono no longer white and clean, but thick with blood and deep black mud sticking to ever inch. His inner chest was gone, a large gaping hole making him look like a zombie. Eyes met, red crimson with dead yellow ones.

A blink.

The hanyou watched as the eyes of his brother cleared, his mouth opening slightly, becoming bright when he focused on the hanyou standing before him. Blood began to pool over his eyes again, blinding him, and that bright look disappeared, his body once again becoming like the dead, taking on a broken stance. InuYasha noticed the change in his brothers body and knew he was still in their, that he had crawled away until his eyes coated over from the massive loss of blood and he became confused.

“Sesshomaru...”

Only a whisper, but the youkai lord had heard his name, lowering his blade to stare at his other, watching as InuYasha turned fully to meet his elder sibling, watching as the blade fell from the youkai’s hand, sticking into the earth below like butter. The lord snarled, taking a step forward, his clawed hand up and ready. Green poison dripped from their tips. He launched forward, hand ready, and struck.

Their was a crash, both bodies flying over Rin. She ducked, expecting to feel the heavy weight of the hanyou, but felt none. They landed away from her, crumpling to the ground in a heap, bodies tangled together. The youkai lord looked ahead of him, feeling arms wrapped around his body, a head pressed to his neck, holding him even closer. His poisonous claws extended above him, holding them away form the other, not daring to touch.

“Please Sesshomaru,” InuYasha whispered, tears in his yellow dull orbs. “Come back.”

The lord twisted, trying to get out of the hold, growling in his throat, blood dripping down his chin and landing in the hanyou’s hair. InuYasha pulled him closer, hand slinking under the mass of red hair cascading down his brothers back and flowing onto the ground. The lord twisted again, looking down at the hanyou below him.

InuYasha looked up, seeing his brothers coated eyes staring down at him, a feral look on his face. Daring the most, the half-demon leaned up, brushing his lips agonist bloodied ones, opening his mouth, feeling the tip of his brothers tongue dip into his mouth, meeting tongues halfway. The hanyou didn’t take his eyes of his brother, fearing he would slice int him if he even dare to blink.

The youkai lord’s eyes slid halfway closed before they closed completely, pressing closer to his brother, moving his hand to brush it through his younger siblings hair. He lifted InuYasha’s head from the ground, his tongue running along the top lip of the half-demons soft mouth. They parted, Sesshomaru opening his eyes, the blood cleared so he could focus on the hanyou clearly.

InuYasha’s dull eyes gained a light color, smiling sadly at his brother, running an hand through his tangled hair. H ran his other down the youkai lords shoulder, pressing small kisses to his lips, tears rolling from his lashes and dropping onto his soft cheeks.

*~*~*

Sango looked through the door to Kaede’s hut, watching as InuYasha approached carrying a limp Kagome in his arms, her head lolling from side to side with each of his steps. His eyes were clouded from tears, taking on a soft smokey look. She ran out to meet him, running a hand over Kagome’s face, eyes worried. Rin walked beside him, holding the hanyou’s pant leg, her eyes downcast, watching the ground. Blood coated the front of InuYasha’s red kimono, but Sango could se it was not his.

“What happened?” came Miroku’s worried voice.

“She was attacked,” InuYasha whispered.

“Has she lost much blood?” Sango asked.

InuYasha nodded.

“We must help her quickly,” Miroku said, holding the door open.

They entered, InuYasha setting Kagome down on the small cot, running a hand down her face and turning, walking toward the door. He stopped, turning to look at the others, knowing they were going to ask him where he was going.

“I will be back.”

With the he left, closing the door before bounding back into the woods, running across the dirt path, turning off toward a large tree with a massive hole at the base. He slowed, kneeling down to look inside. He crawled in all the way and brushed a hand against the cheek of his elder sibling, his eyes closed, sleeping heavily. InuYasha sat beside him, leaning against the bloodied body, worry etched into every soft feature of his face.

‘I know if I don’t tell Kaede he’ll die from blood loss... but... how do I tell her without the others hearing...?’

He felt an arm slide it’s way around his shoulder, pulling him closer. He wrapped an arm around the weakly breathing body. He looked up, ears flat against his head, watching his brother move his head slowly against the tree. He looked down at the ground, feeling a pair of lips kiss the top of his head and a cheek lean against his one ear.

“How are you?” InuYasha whispered.

No answer.

He sighed, moving closer to the body, closing his dark yellow eyes, closing them, feeling fear drop into his stomach, feeling his brother weakening with every second. He would be lucky to see the youkai lord alive tomorrow... only lucky. He looked up through his bangs and removed the arm slowly from around his shoulder. He stood, turning to look back at his brother, eyes sad before bounding back off toward the village. He needed to see Kaede... and fast.

*~*~*

Kaede, ran a leaf over Kagome’s neck the large gashes bubbling as white foam began to seal the badly bleeding wounds. The elder priestess muttered a spell under her breath, running the leaf along Kagome’s neck again. She heard feet walk up the steps of her hut and look to her side, seeing the figure of the hanyou enter her wake.

“What can I do ye with, Inuyasha?” Kaede asked.

No answer, only silence.

“I cannot help ye unless ye tell me,” Kaede said, placing the leaf over Kagome’s wounds.

“An injury...”

“Ye are injured?”

“No... someone else...”

“Who?”

“Sesshomaru...”

InuYasha expected the old woman to reject his words, but looked at her surprised when she stood, walking over to her herbs, sorting through them. She motioned InuYasha over with a hand. He went, kneeling down beside her, watching as she looked at different items.

“What is his condition?” Kaede whispered.

“A poison hole in the chest. Rather large,” InuYasha whispered back, watching the door to the hut carefully.

“It will be difficult to heal but I can no less do it,” Kaede said reassuringly, noticing the distressed look in the hanyou’s eyes. “Let us go.”

Nodding, InuYasha lead Kaede from her hut, looking around cautiously before grabbing the old woman, placing her on his back and bounding away across the village, disappearing into the trees just as Sango walked around the corner of another home with a sleeping Rin in her arms, Miroku right at her side.

Inside the cover of the trees, InuYasha placed Kaede, down leading her off the path and into the thick trees, walking toward the large oak with the giant hole. He made sure the woman was their at his side at all times. He looked around for a brief moment, making sure there was no danger approaching and walked on, Kaede right on his heels.

Finally the hanyou stopped, standing in front of the large oak, watching the elder miko with warning eyes. She entered the tree, shaking her head back and forth, talking under he breath as she checked the heavily inflicted wound, her hand running along the bloodied robe of the elder brother. InuYasha’s ears lowered an inch, hearing the old woman sigh and hang her head, rubbing her old cheek with a wrinkled hand.

“This wound is deep, InuYasha,” Kaede whispered. “Deeper than I had hoped.”

“Help him,” InuYasha hissed, his tone becoming sad. “Please.”

Kaede nodded, turning back to the youkai, lifting a large leaf into the air, shaking it above the elder demon, shaking off small dusts of pollen. The youkai growled, his head turning tot he side, fist clenching at his side. He bared his teeth, eyes squeezed together. InuYasha watched with fascination, yet his eyes showed none. He dropped down beside the old miko, watching as she wrapped the youkai’s chest with a weed, placing a bandage over that before shaking the plant she had before again, muttering a spell, more pollen dropping onto the bandages.

Kaede went, leaving InuYasha to his brother. He huddled down beside the elder demon, sitting on his brothers lap and leaning his head against his chest, the steady beat of his heart thumping against the dog-like ear. He closed his eyes, sleep beginning to invade his distressed orbs until finally he was hidden in the realm of sleep, arms wrapped softly around his sibling, breathing in the recognizable scent hidden through the thick cakes of blood and dried mud.

*~*~*

Morning broke, the birds twittering loudly to one another as the dew on the grass sparkled in the new rays of the soft light. The sun speared through the large oak, attacking the rough bark on the inside and blaring into the closed eyes of the hanyou. InuYasha grumbled in his sleep, turning away from the light. His eyes popped open when he noticed he was alone, sleeping on the ground inside the tree, his other gone.

His ears lowered, looking around slowly, worried something had happened to his sibling, something he didn’t want to think about. He crawled on hand and knee toward the opening, looking out with dull eyes, seeing nothing but trees and beyond. He heard shuffling and looked up, white hair dropping down in front of him. He pushed back into the tree, heart racing.

A pair of arms wrapped around his neck, pulling him close. He opened his eyes, feeling a slight squeeze. Looking up, he peered into two blind yellow eyes, noticing the light did not reflect of the yellow orbs. His mouth turned slightly, opening a crack as he ran a hand down his brothers now clean face.

“Your...”

“Blind... I know...”

“How?”

“The blood in my eyes, but look.”

He moved his arm to show the younger sibling, moving the appendage with ease. InuYasha smiled, noticing the new arm that his brother now occupied, the same as the other and just as strong, long claws occupying the beautiful hand at the end. Noticing the sad look, the elder youkai wrapped his arms around his youthful sibling, pulling his in and running his tongue along soft lips before dipping his tongue inside, lips meeting for a passionate kiss both had missed so very much.

“Do not worry, InuYasha... I can still see you,” the youkai lord whispered.

“Sesshomaru... I’m so happy... right now...”

“I promise, InuYasha... I will never leave you again... my brother... my lover...”
