A/N: IMPORTANT PLEASE READ. First of all the song in this chapter belongs to Josh Groban. Second I want to thank all those who have revieved. As it is this is the last chapter I have written for this story. I also have a fic under the name inufan625 on this site. My real project right now is called Making Things Right and it is only housed on Mediaminer and ff(dot)net. Until I finish that updates on this will be very slow. I will be uploading MTK on this site soon. It now has 25 chapters and I anticipate at least five more before it is done. I should pick this story back up in about two months but I will try to update before then. I finish every story I start so if you really like this then don't give up I will finish it.

For the next week Kagome remained mostly silent. She smiled but it never reached her eyes. She would often disappear and come back looking like she had been crying. She had gone again and InuYasha went to find her. He followed her scent to the well. He could see her sitting with her back against it crying. The he noticed the presence of a youkai. She didn’t seem to notice.
Then he saw it. It was a serpent youkai and it was going straight for Kagome. He raced to stand before her. He drew Tetsusaiga and split the serpent in half as it came at him. He looked at his sword and sadness over took him. The pink glow had completely left his sword. She had diminished within him and he didn’t know how to fix it.
He went to her. “Kagome, baka were you trying to get killed?” he asked.
She looked up and then at the remains of the demon around her. “I’m sorry.” she said. “I didn’t notice it was coming.”
He hugged her and sighed. He picked her up and took her back to Kaede’s hut. Once she was inside Kaede called him out. “InuYasha, ye must do something.” Kaede said. “Something has broken her spirit. She cannot live this way.”
He nodded. He retrieved Kagome and took off into the forest. He took her to the cave where his mother’s things were. He got the box and handed it to her. She opened it. Inside were two fine bone hair combs and a small piece of red fabric. In the top there was dirty and worn picture of a beautiful woman with sad eyes and a kind smile. Kagome touched it softly.
“Your mother was beautiful.” she said. She closed the box and returned it to him. “Why did you bring me here?”
“I don’t know what else to do.” He said. “Damn it Kagome, just tell me what I can do to make you happy. I can kill any demon that comes after you, but I don’t know how to protect you from yourself.”
“I suppose you’ll go to Kikyou now.” she said softly.
He grabbed her by the shoulders, and shook her gently before pulling her to him. “Baka, you are the one I want.” he said.
“But you were with her that morning. You didn’t deny it.” she said. “I always assumed that you and she had been together, but I never thought that you would after we...”
He growled. “I was with her that morning, but it was to say goodbye. I had to tell her that I chose you and that I would still kill Naraku for what he did, but that I couldn’t die with her.” he told her. “You were my first, my last, my only. There was never another before you and there will never be another. If I simply wanted a child I would not have marked you.”
She looked up at him. “But you haven’t...Since he touched me you haven’t.” She whispered, lowering her eyes.
“Kagome look at me.” He said. She slowly moved her gaze to match his. “You know I’m not good at telling you how I feel. Since the moment I found you under that tree the only thing I ‘ve wanted to do is hold you, and comfort you in the only way I know how. I didn’t know if you wanted that. I never want to hurt you.”
Her eyes had never left his and she had seen only the truth. “Please?” she asked.
He pulled her dress over her head and removed his own clothes. He gently lowered her to the floor and kissed her. He removed her underwear and began to explore her body completely. When she was ready he entered her. As he did, he bit down again on his mark.
Kagome moaned. His movements were almost painfully slow. She felt his youki surrounding her, holding her, trying to reach inside and heal her. He pressed his lips to her ear. “I love you Kagome. You and only you, forever. Please believe me.” he whispered, over and over again. As his paced quickened, still he said those same words. She felt tears spill down her cheeks. “Kagome?” he said softly.
“Don’t stop, please don’t stop.” she replied. So he continued until they both found their release.
“I love you.” he said one last time before moving off of her and pulling her to him.
“I love you too.” she replied. They fell asleep in each other arms.

The next morning when she woke he was standing at the entrance of the cave. “InuYasha.” she called.
He turned and could have cried at what he saw. She was smiling at him, really smiling. He went to her and hugged her tightly. Thank Kami. “Kagome.” he whispered.
“Every one is probably worried. We should get back.” she said. He nodded.
They walked past the well and she stopped. She just looked at the trees and the sky. She felt the wind on her face. “What?” he asked.
“I just forgot how beautiful it all is.” she said.
He grabbed her and spun around. She laughed. “What’s gotten into you?” she asked.
“You.” he said quietly. “I thought I lost you.” He kissed her.
She smiled. “Come on. We can do that later.” she laughed. This time he didn’t even care that she had broken their kiss. She was happy again and that was all that mattered.
It seemed that the others were waiting for them. She entered Kaede’s hut and they all looked up at her. Shippou jumped into her arms. Sango and Miroku smiled and Kaede nodded her approval. They had all missed Kagome’s smile.
--------------------0000000000000000000000000-------------------------
Later that day as Kagome played with Shippou, Kaede approached InuYasha. “Ye have healed her spirit. How did ye do it?” she asked.
“The same way she healed mine.” He said, before going to join her and the kit. This one day, he was truly going to leave the past behind him and have fun.
------------------------000000000000000000000------------------------------
The next night InuYasha and Kagome came back from the springs to find Sango and Miroku waiting. “Messengers arrived while you were gone.” Miroku said.
“There is to be a festival in the village just west of here.” she said. “They are inviting all the neighboring villages to celebrate a good planting season and the hope for a good harvest.” Sango told them.
“What is a festival here like?” Kagome asked.
“Well there will be a bonfire and a feast. Usually there is singing and dancing. It is a chance to have fun and put aside the worries and toil of life for a night.” Sango said.
“When is it?” Kagome asked.
“In seven days.” Miroku said.
“Oh.” Kagome said softly. “I’m sure you both will have a great time. You’ll have to tell me all about it.”
“Don’t you want to go?” Sango asked.
InuYasha knew why she had said that. In seven nights, it would be the new moon. He knew she would never go without him. “Well do you?” he asked her.
She looked at him “But that night is...”
“I know what night it is.” he interrupted. “Do you want to go or not?”
“You’re sure?” she asked.
“I wouldn’t have asked otherwise.” he told her.
She smiled. “Yes I want to go.”
“Then it is settled.” he said.
--------------------------000000000000000000------------------------
As the day of the festival approached Sango and Miroku finally realized what Kagome and InuYasha had been talking about. They were surprised that InuYasha was willing to venture out of the village on the night of the new moon.
They arrived at the village just after sunset. InuYasha was in his human form. They sat down and enjoyed the food and sake that had been prepared for the night. Each village had contributed. InuYasha actually seemed to be enjoying himself. Kagome guessed it could be attributed to the massive amount of drinks he was consuming.
As the night wore on she knew he was drunk. He kept stealing kisses and holding her, oblivious to those around them. They all sat to listen to those who would sing. The first was a song of harvest, and it was followed by a children’s learning song. As the third person sang a love song InuYasha turned to and kissed her. He then got up and walked away. A fourth and fifth person sang and Kagome had turned to talk to Sango. Miroku grabbed her chin and turned it back to the small stage that had been set up for the night.
Her mouth dropped open. It was InuYasha He looked at her and smiled. Then he started to sing. No one was prepared for what happened next. A single line was enough to command total silence from all gathered. His voice was pure and true and washed over them.
Like the sound of silence calling
I hear you voice and suddenly
I’m falling, lost in a dream
Like the echos of our souls are meeting
You say those words and my heart stops beating
I wonder what it means
What could it be that comes over me?
At times I can’t move
At times I can hardly breathe.
When you say you love me
The world goes still, so still and silent
When you say you love me
For a moment there’s no on else alive
You’re the one I’ve always thought of
I don’t know how, but I feel sheltered in your love
You’re where I belong
And when you’re with me if I close my eyes
There are times I feel like I could fly
For a moment in time
Somewhere between the Heavens and Earth
And frozen in time, Oh when you say those words
When you say you love me
The world goes still, so still and silent
When you say you love me
For a moment there’s no on else alive
And this journey that we’re on
How far we’ve come and I celebrate every moment
And when you say you love me
That’s all you have to say
I’ll always feel this way
When you say you love me
The world goes still, so still and silent
When you say you love me
In that moment I know why I’m alive
When you say you love me
Do you know how I love you?
As he finished, most of the women were in tears. It had been so beautiful. InuYasha had poured his heart and soul into the song and Kagome knew that she would never look at him the same.
“Did you know he could do that?” Sango asked. Kagome shook her head as she tried to halt her tears.
“I don’t think any of us ever would have if he wasn’t so drunk.” Miroku said.
InuYasha came and sat beside Kagome acting as if he hadn’t done anything out of the ordinary. He took her face in his hand and kissed her softly. “For you my koishii.” he said.
“Thank you.” she whispered.
The headman of the village stepped up and called for the maidens to come dance, so that those who wish to declare their intent to court could choose. It seemed no one wanted to sing after InuYasha. “Go on Sango.” Kagome said. “It will be fun.” Sango blushed and got up to join the other unmarried women. “Now here’s your chance Miroku. Don’t wait to long and don’t ruin it with your wandering hands.” Kagome told him. He nodded and went to stand with the men.
Kagome watched the dance. Sango was laughing and she looked beautiful. Slowly the men came and joined the woman of their choice in a dance. She watched Miroku step forward.
Sango felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned. “Will you dance with me?” Miroku asked.
“Hai.” Sango replied. She was surprised when not once did Miroku grope her.
They came back to Kagome and InuYasha. InuYasha had his head in her lap and was staring at her as she watched the fire. Sango smiled at them. “Having fun?’ she asked. They both nodded.
The headman appeared again and asked those married to come and dance. InuYasha grabbed Kagome’s hand. “Come on.” he said and he pulled her along with him.
Sango and Miroku watched Kagome and InuYasha. It seemed there were many things InuYasha could do that they weren’t aware of. They saw Kagome’s eyes light up as he spun her around. She was laughing and he couldn’t take his eyes off of her. They had never seen him look so happy. He was smiling so openly.
At last it was over and those who had traveled were invited into the homes of the villagers to sleep. InuYasha passed out as soon as he laid down. Kagome looked at Miroku and Sango. “I want you to make me a promise.” she said. “Do not say one word to him about tonight. This one night he let himself be happy and I won’t have that ruined not by anyone.” she said.
“I promise.” Sango said.
“You have my word.” Miroku told her.
“If you break your promise, I’ll never forgive you.” she replied. They nodded.
InuYasha stirred. “Kagome.” he said reaching out for her. She laid down beside him and he pulled her close. “I love you.”
“I love you too.” She said.
InuYasha woke up and opened his eyes. Maybe it was a dream. Maybe I didn’t really act like that last night. Of course it wasn’t a dream, baka. Maybe I can pretend I am still asleep and they will all go away and leave me here. He groaned.
Kagome woke. Sango and Miroku were still sleeping. She looked at InuYasha. She was almost sure he was awake. “InuYasha.” she whispered. “I know you’re only pretending to sleep.”
Damn it. He sat up. The monk and Sango would be up soon. He prepared himself for whatever remarks Miroku had no doubt spent half the night thinking up. “It will be all right.” Kagome said.
“Keh.” he replied. That’s easy for her to say. She didn’t make a fool of herself last night.
When the others woke, they used some of the supplies that had with them to make breakfast and share it with the family that had let them stay with them as a way to show their thanks. InuYasha wondered why Kagome was in such a good mood. As she worked she hummed softly, and kept turning around to smile at him. Not that he was complaining. He had more than enough occasions to see her unhappy.
When they finished eating The monk looked at him like he was going to say something. InuYasha prepared himself for whatever it might be. Kagome glared at Miroku. The look died on the monks face and he returned his attention to Sango. InuYasha could think of only one thing that could keep Miroku from teasing him. Kagome.
Sango and Miroku took the lead as they headed out of the village and back to their own. Kagome and InuYasha walked several feet behind them. “Kagome I...” he started.
She stopped walking. “Don’t.” she said. “Don’t ruin it by saying you’re sorry. You have no reason to be. One night you let yourself be happy. One night you were a man like any other, and it was beautiful.” She hugged him. “Please don’t be sorry.” He nodded. “Promise me something.”
