Chapter 5- Bloody Little Lies
Chapter 5- Bloody Little Lies
Miroku took Sango to school the next day. He’d dropped her off at her apartment the night before so she could get some rest…God knows that she wouldn’t get a wink with Miroku so close to her all the time.
“Nice bike!” said Sango as she approached Miroku on his hard earned motorcycle. He had worked for 2 years to save enough for it and he rarely aloud anyone to touch it…Miroku grinned at her as he took off his helmet and received a little kiss from Sango who giggled before getting on behind him and slipping the helmet on his head. Miroku handed her the spare and she slid it on before snapping the strap so it would stay on.
“Hold on tight…” he warned and she wrapped her arms around his waist. And with a roar Miroku set off for school. He could feel Sango’s heart pounding in her chest. She’d never ridden a motorcycle before…she was a bit nervous but felt so safe with Miroku.
In nearly no time at all Miroku was halting the bike in the parking lot of the school.
“What a ride!” said Sango, knees slightly shaking as she stood.
Miroku chuckled and set the helmets on the handles.
“I’m glad you liked it…” he said as pulled his book bag off the end of the bike and took Sango’s hand…
Sango was trying her hardest to ignore the whispers and glances she was getting, it didn’t seem to change when she was walking with Miroku or without him. Everyone seemed to know who she was. Kagome had worried herself sick and was at home in bed, fretting about Sango still…
“Oh…I hope she’s all right…” groaned the bedded Kagome…
“Hey look it’s the whore…the one who went home with Miroku…”
“I heard that the neighbors had to call the cops to get them to quiet down when they were fucking!"
“Miroku will drop that one soon…”
“Look how they’re holding hands! Miroku must be stringing her along for another get together!”
“I can’t believe she’d do that with him!”
“I wonder if she’ll fuck with me?”
By lunch Sango was losing it. Miroku had disappeared…probably beating someone up for insulting Sango…he’d already sent 3 boys to the nurse for calling Sango a whore right in his face. Sango hid in the bathroom, to nervous to eat lunch. Why was everyone being so mean? Did she do something wrong by following her heart? Sango sighed deeply…
“This will all pass in a few days…keep calm Sango…nothing bad will happen this time…” she muttered to herself…She hated what she was keeping inside…
Sango walked out of the bathroom slowly as the bell rang…Time for her next class. She didn’t need any of her books for Home Economics, so she dropped them off at her locker. As she walked down the semi-crowed hall she looked up and spotted Miroku standing against a corner, smiling at her. Sango began walking towards him but suddenly screams and yells came from the other students “Gun! GUN!” some yelled as they ran. Sango slowly turned around and saw Naraku standing there, a few meters away with a gun pointed at her.
“N-Naraku don’t!” yelled Miroku, running forward.
Naraku had been hearing all about Sango today, about how Miroku had taken another pretty girl. But secretly he'd been zealously attracted to the new student and would rather see her dead than with a better man.
“If I can’t have her no one will!” said the crazed Naraku pulling the trigger.
Sango stood there frozen, she couldn’t move…she didn’t even make a sound as the bullet tore through her chest, the opposite side of her heart for Naraku wasn’t a good aim. As she fell she felt two strong arms catch her and hold her tight.
“Sango!” he yelled, quickly wrapping an arm tightly around the wound to try to minimize the bleeding as Naraku started shooting randomly, like a lunatic. Another gun carrying, ‘bad-boy’ student suddenly fired at Naraku’s head and the attemptive murderer fell dead to the floor.
“Get her out of here!”
“Get a doctor!” people yelled and Miroku scooped Sango quickly into his arms and bolted towards the parking lot
“M…Miroku-u…” Sango gasped in a weak voice.
“Sango! Sango please hold on!” he begged as he hopped on the motorcycle and used his own body to keep Sango upright… Sango groaned as the engine roared and the helmets were quickly knocked off and then Miroku was off in a race against time. He steered with one hand and used the other arm to hold Sango close. He could feel her blood soaking his arm as he raced through the streets, heading towards the hospital.
“I’m…sorry…” whimpered Sango against his chest.
Miroku began to tremble, he was only a few miles away now.
“I wanted to tell you…” said Sango before passing out.
“Damn it!” yelled Miroku as he parked sloppily and picked up Sango before rushing into the ER…
Miroku sat in the waiting room, still covered in Sango’s blood and scent. He was shaking and easily startled by sudden movements and noises. Sango had been in emergency surgery for 4 hours now and Miroku was in a panic…What had she been trying to tell him? Why was she sorry? Would she be all right? What if she was dying at that moment because he hadn’t helped her in time? He buried his face in his hands a begged to the gods that she would be all right…
“Miroku? Is there a Miroku in here?” asked a nurse with a clipboard. Miroku bolted over to her.
“Is she all right?! Is she alive?!” he begged.
“Yes, she just fine, she waking up from the drugs we gave her before surgery…Follow me…” she said softly and Miroku followed her, looking slightly relieved…
Sango lay on a white hospital bed, hooked up to monitors and machines. Her clothes were gone and a sturdy white bandage was wrapped around her breasts and wound. Miroku quickly was at her side and he gently touched her hand.
“Sango…Sango can you hear me?” he asked tenderly as Sango opened her eyes halfway…
“Miroku?” she said hoarsely, looking at him weakly.
“Oh Sango! You’re okay!” said Miroku joyfully before gently kissing her forehead and pulling up a chair so that he could sit by her side…
Sango breathed a heavy sigh. They’d saved her lung and reset her severed ribs. 3 were very damaged and her lung now had a stitched up hole on either side, plus the stitches on the entry and exit wounds.
Miroku sat there for awhile…Sango was weak, she could barely talk and the medicine would take time to wear-off. But Miroku would wait for her until she was capable…and that moment came 2 hours later…
“Miroku…I’m sorry…” said Sango sadly and suddenly…
“Sorry for what?’ asked Miroku
“I’ve…I’ve been lying to you…to Kagome, to everyone…” she said in a forced whimper.
“What do you mean?” said Miroku, stroking her hand…
“About my parents…and brother…they…didn’t die like I’ve been telling everyone…” she muttered.
-So I wasn’t mistaken, she got her stories confused!- thought Miroku
“My brother was taken away by the government and the took me too…My mother left when we were little kids so it was just father raising us…but he started beating us when he was drunk and touching me his places he shouldn’t…I protected my brother daily and was beaten for it…but one night he went to far and I grabbed his gun…and I …I shot my father…and left him there to die…I ran away with my brother but we were caught and put into a foster home. Kohaku one day didn’t come back from an adoption meeting…someone took him away from me…and they wouldn’t tell me where he went…so I ran again…and I found cousin who let me stay for a few years before I had to move out on my own. She made me leave because almost every night my nightmares would wake the whole house…I’d be screaming for father to stop…for Kohaku to come back…they thought I was crazy…so I’ve been searching all over Japan for him. Heading to a new school every time someone got a hint of my secret…I didn’t want anyone to know…I’m so ashamed…I just want my brother back…” said Sango…
Miroku could see tears forming in her eyes and they fell down her cheeks. Gently he wiped them off…
“Sango…why didn’t you tell me? Would you think I would leave you just because of what happened in your past?” he asked softly.
Sango started nodding.
“Nonsense! I could never do that to you…” he said quickly
Sango smiled slightly and saw him smile back…
“I love you…” he whispered in her ear before kissing her cheek…
“I love you too…” said Sango, closing her eyes.
Miroku didn’t leave her side for the next 10 hours…He had to be sure she would be all right…
