The Truth Shall Set Him Free

Inuyasha stepped back from the lid of the well.
"Sesshomaru, I don't have time for this right now! Why are you choosing now to fight me? You've had dozens of chances before now to take me on before now?"
"Inuyasha, I choose now because your little friends won't interfere with our fight. Because this fight only involves our family. And it will be a lot easier to fight with that annoying girl constantly yelling at you, don't you think." He said with a smirk
"You leave Kagome, MY FIANCÉ', out of this. Now let’s hurry and finish this once and for all I'd hate to miss my own wedding, even over this." Inuyasha grabbed the hilt of Tetsusaiga and drew the great fang out to its full form.
"Oh so you are finally taking a mate good then this will be so much more satisfying to take her as my concubine when I win."
"WHAT!? What do you mean you'll take her? As long as theirs breathe in my body you will never touch Kagome." With that Inuyasha took a charge at Sesshomaru. Tetsusaiga slams down into the ground where Sesshomaru just stood. "Bastard, answer me! What did you mean?"
"Inuyasha have you ever wondered why I always desire to fight you, of course not you were raised by your weak mother and don't know any tradition. When demon brothers are old to take mates, the two fight to ensure only the strongest one goes on to bare offspring. Silly things such as love are of no use to the likes of us." Sesshomaru aims the Tokijim at Inuyasha and let’s loose a flurry of deadly shots. He is barely able to dodge them in time.
"Fine we'll do it your way, but know this WHEN I WIN you will never try to fight me or hurt anyone I hold dear again ever." CLASH, Inuyasha swings at Sesshomaru again and this time connects with the Tokijim. The two blades auras tangle and writhed from the energy of the blow.
I have to hurry this up before Kagome comes back to see what's happened.
...
Kagome meanwhile was helping with the last minute preparations for the wedding and was arranging flowers when something caused her to stop what she was doing. As if Kagome could sense what Inuyasha was doing she suddenly had this cold feeling in the pit of his stomach. She had to go see him NOW!
"Mom."
Her mother looked up from another table where she and one of Kagome's friends were explaining some of he finer points of the wedding to Sango.
"Yes dear what is it?" But Kagome only jumped up from what she was doing and turned to ran.
"Mom I...I can sense something's wrong. Please keep preparing I need to go find what's keeping Inuyasha." She bolted away from her seat and through the door, almost knocking over a banner that Sota and Miroku were hanging across the Threshold.
"But Kagome wait!"
It was too late Kagome was already jumping down inside the sacred well.
Oh Inuyasha please let you be all right. I couldn't live with myself if something happened to you while I wasn't there.
Her world started to fade away into black as she began to transcend to the feudal era again.
...
Meanwhile, back in Inuyasha and Sesshomaru's fight. The two had been going at it like never before. Inuyasha's upper robe was ripped away and there were some long gashes in his back where he had been careless and forgotten about Sesshomaru's claws. And his brother was no better off: his flowing furry thing was mangled and bloody, hiding the massive wound along his shoulder where Inuyasha had nearly cut his shoulder off.
"Exquisite isn't it brother. We've both been waiting our whole lives for this moment. And this next charge will determine the winner. By then one of us will be dead."
Inuyasha glanced back at the well behind him.
He's right, one of us will die, but I can't let it be me. Kagome would never forgive me if I died like this
"Fine have it your way, one of us will die. But it's not going to be MEEEEEE!" Inuyasha charged. And Sesshomaru readied the Tokijim.
"Die, Brother!" They said in unison. Then Inuyasha heard something that made him cold inside.
"Inuyasha, what are you... Sesshomaru?"
Inuyasha turned to see Kagome climbing out of the well looking perplexed at the two brothers. Unfortunately she came at the wrong time. Sesshomaru had just released another flurry of shots from the Tokijim. Inuyasha was able to reflect the ones that came at him, but he saw all too late where a few others were heading.... Straight for Kagome.
"KAGOME NOOOOOOO!" Inuyasha stopped his charge and immediately sprinted towards Kagome hoping to be able to stop the deadly projectiles before they hit their mark. He realized right then he wasn't going to make it.
Kagome just stood there as the shots of light hit her in the chest. She let out a barely audible whisper as she fell backward. Blood already starting to seep through her shirt. "Inuyasha..."
Sesshomaru looked at her as she hit the ground and then as his brother caught her and cradled the dead girl in his arms. "Foolish girl."
Inuyasha held Kagome close to him. Trying desperately to stop the blood form flowing out of her wounds. Tears burned down his face. HE could already sense her soul was leaving her. The look of love and passion that her eyes once shown were now dulled and gone.
"Kagome, No, No why did you come I told you that I wouldn't miss it. Why did you have to come? WHY?!" His vision blurred as from tears. Then he saw a shape walking towards him. It was Sesshomaru.
"Go on finish me you won. You killed the one thing that I had to live for. Just finish me off, it’s what you wanted to do from the beginning isn't it." He just held Kagome in his arms as he waited for his brother to end his life once and for all... But it never came.
"Stop your pathetic crying Inuyasha; I will not kill you in this pathetic state you are in now."
Sesshomaru then did something amazing. He re-sheathed Tokijim and reached for the other sword on his waist: The Tensaiga.
But that sword can't cut anything. What's he planning? No he wouldn't, would he?
Sesshomaru raised the Tensaiga above his head, and swung it at Kagome. A strange wave washed over her. Inuyasha could sense it, suddenly her wounds were closing and the blood disappeared. Inuyasha couldn't believe it. His older brother who had always tried to kill him had actually saved Kagome.
Her eyes fluttered open and she saw Inuyasha looking up at Sesshomaru.
Inuyasha spoke up first, "Thank you, Sesshomaru, but why would you help her?"
"Consider it a... A wedding present. I told you this fight is between you and me. And when the day comes you and I will finish this." Sesshomaru turned to leave.
"But, But I thought you said that this was over." Inuyasha said bewildered.
Sesshomaru stopped and turned at his brother. "Don't be an ingrate, I saved your women. And I don't remember agreeing to any such deal."
"Fine we'll finish this someday... But thank you brother."
"I don't need your thanks." And with that he left.
Kagome was still in a state of shock. Having come upon Inuyasha fighting and then feeling something sharp stab her through the chest. And then blacking out and awakening to Inuyasha and Sesshomaru actually being nice to one another, "Inuyasha, what, what happened to me?"
"Shhh, its OK rest now. I'll take us back home." He picked her up and headed back towards the well.
...
Later that day, after the somewhat frightening experience of seeing Inuyasha brings a tired and ripped shirted Kagome come back from the well. The group finally got the wedding back under way.
"I, do."
"And you Inuyasha?"
"I do."
"I now pronounce you man, err ahh Hanyou and Wife."
...
Still even later that night. The reception was under way. Miroku and Kagome's Grandfather were drunk off their rockers and were swaying back and forth singing some incomprehensible song. Sango had gotten to know some of Kagome's friends and they were telling tales of both her demon slaying adventures and their fashion and makeup, of all things. Kagome's Mom and Lady Keade were sitting down and discussing their new found in-law-ship. And Kagome herself was out sitting beneath the God Tree with Inuyasha.
"So this is what marriage is like?" He said calmly.
"Yeah I guess so." She replied.
"So now what?"
"Well there is one last thing but that's for later tonight."
Inuyasha just blushed at the thought and Kagome giggled at the look upon his face.
"Oh come on like you can't wait for it either. Come on let's go back to the others. They may need some help subduing Grandpa and Miroku." But Kagome wasn't able to finish the sentence because they were suddenly interrupted by a loud shout and clapping.
The two looked up Sango had apparently thrown what seemed to be a smaller version of her Boomerang at the two drunken and disorderly men. Kagome's friends were clapping as she picked up her intoxicated husband off the floor and brought him back to his seat. And her Grandfather was helped to his feet by Sota.
"Oh Grandpa when will you ever learn." He said shaking his head.
Inuyasha just laughed, "Actually I think I got a better idea." He said as he picked her up in his arms and jumped to the top of the tree. He scanned the surroundings while a dazed Kagome tried to figure out what he was up to. With another erupt jump Inuyasha leapt over the temple wall and headed over the rooftops to some unknown location.
Finally when the journey ended Kagome realized where they were. They were up in the bell tower again. The place where they had decided to spend their lives together.
"Inuyasha what is it you wanted to show me?"
"This and he pointed towards the bell.
Kagome looked closer and saw the etched names of herself and Inuyasha in the bell's brass side. "Inuyasha, thank you. But you could've told me."
"Yeah I know." He blushed again.
"Ah come on don't get all embarrassed now. Got to save that for tomorrow morning when everyone's seeing us off." Inuyasha just blushed harder and Kagome laughed and kissed him on the cheek. "Inuyasha let's go back."
"All right, but I don't want you telling the others about this."
"Don't worry, I won’t."
And with that they headed back to the party. No one had even noticed they were missing.
When all was said and done Inuyasha and Kagome said their good-byes and headed back through the well with their Feudal era guests.
"Bye everyone, and don't worry I'll be back soon." Kagome said as she jumped into the well with Sango and one very drunk Miroku on each arm.
And hopefully it will be with a little surprise for my mom too.

Afterthoughts:
It’s been almost a year since the day of their wedding and Kagome and Inuyasha are still together. Fighting alongside them is Miroku. Sango is staying with Lady Keade because she is pregnant with Miroku's heir. As the days pass by the group slowly get closer to destroying Naraku and completing the Jewel of 4 Souls. Their future is uncertain. But they face it bravely. Especially because it is quite clear that something much more precious is growing within Kagome.
