almost home

He slowly made his way back to the path. Her words had already made a mark in his mind. Sesshomaru continued to repeat them in his head, ‘you fascinate me’.

When he reached the small group that was waiting for him, the sun was slowly making it’s way to the horizon.

“Me Lord, what happened to the woman?!” questioned Jaken in his annoying voice.

“She left…with the stone,” he replied.

“Surely she did not beat you!” said a surprised Jaken. Sesshomaru gave him a glare that made him cower away slightly.

“Do you honestly think she could have beaten me?”

“NO! No, it’s just…”

“Be quiet Jaken. I don’t want to hear your excuse.” Jaken said nothing after that. Sesshomaru led them down the path. They traveled through the night, making up for the time lost. Rin had fallen asleep atop Ah-Un’s back.

************
3 days had passed. They would reach the palace of the Western lands by late afternoon. Although Sesshomaru would never admit it, he would be glad to be home. They walked along in silence as the day wore on.

They were walking down the path when suddenly a silver blob started towards them from the other side of the path. Sesshomaru soon recognized it as Tork, Auko’s demon companion. The wolf was running towards them, barking, but he picked up no signs of the human woman being with him. Sesshomaru stopped when the dog came right up to him.

Sesshomaru looked at the dog. Tork bit at the sleeve of his shirt, growling. He was trying to pull Sesshomaru towards him. Did he want him to follow him? Sesshomaru wasn’t sure, but he had a feeling it had something to do with Auko.

“Jaken, you and Rin head to the palace on Ah-Un. I will meet you there,” said Sesshomaru. He then left, following Tork in the direction he lead. He heard the complaints of Jaken, but ignored them.

The two ran fast towards where ever they were heading. It wasn’t too long before they came to a clearing and the smell of blood hit Sesshomaru’s nose. No longer needing to follow the demon, he rushed past him into the field.

He stopped when he saw the body of Auko, laying hidden in the tall grass of the clearing. Sesshomaru kneeled down next to her, looking over her body. She was covered in her blood, and than of a demons. Two large gashes went up her stomach, through the middle of her chest, missing her breasts. Her left leg was bleeding from the knee down. She was covered in other minor scrapes and bruises also.

Auko opened her eyes. She look at him and spoke his name, only to start choking.

“Ssh, don’t speak. I’m going to heal you,” Sesshomaru told her. She nodded slightly. He couldn’t use Tenseiga, for he didn’t see any messengers of Hell. So he picked her up, careful of her wounds and started walking towards his palace. Tork followed close at his heels, whining occasionally. It was obvious he was worried.
