Just for the night

 Inuyasha and his pack
had their supper with Kaede. The old miko was a bit surprised to hear the great
demon lord had taken a human mate. She knew that Sango and the demon had done
more than just shared a bed that night, as an old woman and a well trained miko,
she had sensed the new life within the slayer’s body. But she was not the one to
bring such things up. And these strange things could lead more strange events.
“I would not want to miss this show.” She chuckled a bit and cast a
glance to where Kagome and Inuyasha were seated.

After dinner Kagome had
ventured out from the hut to sit on its porch. Inuyasha had followed her, and
without any explanations he lifted her up and sat her down in his lap.

Inuyasha?

-         
Shh, just sit here and enjoy the
sunset little girl, he mumbled with his face in her hair. “Gods, she smells
so good.”

-         
But…

-         
But nothing, we talk later.

Kagome tried to say
something but she could not find the words. She melted back in to his warm
embrace. “Why is he doing this? I am glad that Sango and I talked, and that
his strange behaviour towards her was only concern for his new little sister and
her unborn child. But still.. that does not explain this sudden display of
affection for me. Is it because I hugged him and kissed him on the cheek
earlier?” The rambling went on in her head and she wanted to have the
questions answered, but she was a bit afraid of what they might be. She yawned a
bit and felt the days colourful events were beginning to take its toll on her.

Are you tired Kagome? Inuyasha
asked with a low voice.

-         
Mmm, a bit.

-         
Then sleep, I will watch over
you.

-         
I know, you always do, she
smiled and turned her head to look at the hanyou.

-         
So you have noticed that?

-         
Yes, I have. But I would like to
know why.

-         
You look so peaceful and serene
when you are asleep, like a sleeping goddess.

-         
….

-         
Sleep now and we will talk about
this later. Right now I do not have the words..

-         
Ok Inuyasha.

Kagome yawned again and
snuggled her body into his embrace. She could sleep like this every night.
Inuyasha heard her breathing evened out and he nuzzled her neck, taking in her
calming scent. He knew she wanted to ask hundreds of questions, but he was not
ready to answer them, not yet. The open display of her affections this afternoon
had him confused. The warmth that spread inside him when she hugged him, he
could not describe it, it was like he had died and gone to heaven. He decided to
do the same to her, hug her, kiss her, and snuggle with her. And now she was
peacefully at sleep in his lap. A image of Kagome, her belly swollen with his
child, made the hanyou blush deeply. But the image was the most beautiful thing
he would ever see, but would she want to carry the child of hanyou? But that
question had to be unanswered for now; right now he just wanted to have her
close to him.

Shippou came back from
his friends, and he saw Kagome sit in Inuyashas lap and he giggled a bit.
“About time.” He thought and went up on the porch.

Is she asleep? he asked the
hanyou.

-         
Yes, she was tired, answered
Inuyasha.

-         
Can I still sleep on her stomach
like I used to do?

-         
Of course Shippou, just do not
wake her up.

-         
Thanks Inu-pa… Inuyasha.

The kitsune had slipped,
and he dove fast under Kagomes shirt, hiding from the very confused looks
Inuyasha gave him. The kitsune had almost called him papa, he was sure of it.
Did the little boy think of him as a father? A pulsating warmth spread across
his chest and he patted the roundness under Kagomes shirt.

It is ok Shippou, if you want
to, Inuyasha whispered.

Thank you Inu-papa.

Shippou was happy. He
finally had a family again.
