Chapter 6: Yasha's Sacrifice

Inuyasha woke up eariler than usual one morning and began fixing breakfast. Yasha stirred from her sleep and studied her father sleepily. "Are you ok?" she asked. "Never better," he said. "Come get breakfast and go outside and play. I have to go to the village today and I should be back by lunchtime." She nodded and slid out of bed. When lunchtime passed without word from Inuyasha, Yasha became rather concerned. She walked to her hut and found it empty.

"Where's Papa?" she asked in confusion. She sighed and sat down. "Maybe he ain't finished in the village," she said to herself. "He'll be here soon. I know it." Evening approached and Inuyasha was nowhere to be found. She lost all her patience suddenly and decided to go to the village. "He's taking too long," she said as she ran down the path. "Something has to be wrong." Just then, she was nearly knocked to the ground by the thick sickening scent of blood. She swallowed back a nauseating feeling and slid down to the village to find a funeral going on.

"Who died?" she asked causing people to look at her. "It's Inuyasha's kid," a man said. "She probably has the same evilness inside her as well!" "What?" Yasha asked in shock. "What do you mean?" "Your father killed Lady Kikyo!" he shouted angrily. She gasped in shock. "Papa is not a murderer!" she shouted. "He wouldn't hurt my mother no matter how much she hurt him!" "Your mother?" he said in surprise. That caused the villagers to talk then.

"Lady Kikyo wasn't a virgin and had a demon as a child," someone whispered. "We should kill her and gain Kikyo's soul back!" Yasha gasped and tore off running when someone grabbed her and pulled her in a hut while keeping a hand over her mouth. "Remain calm," a young voice said seriously. "I shall help ye get to safety." Yasha studied the girl to find her with an eyepatch over one eye. "Who are you?" she asked. "My name is Kaede," the girl said. "I'm Kikyo's sister and your aunt. Before I get you to safety, you should see something first."

Kaede threw a hooded cloak over Yasha to keep her hidden and the two ran off for the forest. "I smell Papa's scent," Yasha said underneath her hood. "Aye, it is that of Inuyasha," Kaede said seriously. "But before my sister died, this is what she did to him." Yasha looked up in total disbelief. Her father was pinned to a tree by a sacred arrow belonging to her mother. "He tried to steal the Shikon Jewel," Kaede explained. "Somehow, Kikyo returned badly injured and fired the shot before she collasped to the ground and said Inuyasha did it." Yasha's eyes filled with tears as she bowed her head. "I can't believe this," she whispered. "Papa wouldn't hurt Kikyo. I know it with my heart."

"What do ye think happened?" Kaede asked. Yasha sighed. "I smell another demon's scent here," she said seriously. "A very powerful one. But I hope this will be solved." "Come with me, Yasha," Kaede said. "I know how to protect ye." She led the hanyou to the temple and to an old monk. "Lady Kaede, what brings you here?" he asked. "I have brought my niece, Yasha," she said. "I must ask a favor from ye. Ye shall place her under an ageless spell similar to Inuyasha's that will only break when he awakens." Yasha studied Kaede in shock. "Are you willing to make this sacrifice?" the monk asked. "It could mean forever." "If my father has to suffer, so should I," she said. "I want to find out what really happened no matter how long it takes. I want to see Papa again and know that he didn't do this crime he is being charged with."

The monk led the hanyou inside as Yasha's eyes fell on her aunt one last time before the heavy doors shut behind them. She removed her hood and glanced around the temple as the monk prepared the spell. A special bed was made and she was nervous, but her heart told her this was right. The monk returned with a potion inside a vial. "Drink all of this, my child," he said handing it to her. Yasha sighed as she studied the potion and then looked up. "This is for you, Papa," she said drinking the entire potion. She suddenly found it hard to breathe and collasped on the bed unconsious. The monk said a prayer and blessed the child before removing the medallion he wore around his neck and placing it around hers. "Godspeed, Yasha," he whispered.

Fifty years passed and the monk died of old age. Yasha was guarded carefully by other monks and her room had a barrier no demon could break. One morning, Yasha's eyes fluttered open and she sat up stretching. The monkaredared at her in shock. "You have awakened!" they gasped. She looked around her neck to see the medallion of the monk that helped her. "He died, didn't he?" she asked. They nodded and she sighed. "I never had the chance to thank him," she whispered. "How long has it been?" "Fiifty years, Lady Yasha," one monk said causing her to become confused. She grabbed her staff and stood up. "I must get home," she said as the monks broke her barrier and she ran off to the village.

The villagers stared at her in shock. "If having Kikyo's reincarnation here wasn't enough, her daughter has returned," a woman said. Yasha frowned. "Kikyo's reincarnation?" she asked in confusion. She shrugged it off and knelt down at a lake to get some water when she saw a young girl bathing. The girl looked alarmed at Yasha's presence and screamed. Yasha screamed and jumped behind a rock in fear. "What is it?" Inuyasha demanded. "Someone's behind that rock!" the girl cried. Inuyasha frowned. "You're seeing things," he said. He walked off with a huff. Yasha peeked over the side of the rock and studied the girl again. "She does look like Kikyo!" she gasped. Apparently, she spoke too loud because the girl heard her and turned around. "You again!" she gasped. "Take it easy!" Yasha said holding her hands up in surrender. "I won't hurt you! I didn't mean to spy on you at all!"

"Come here," the girl said. Yasha sighed and removed her clothes walking in the water. "You look just like Inuyasha," the girl commented scratching Yasha between the ears. "That feels good," Yasha giggled. The girl chuckled. "So, what's your name?" she asked. "Yasha," Yasha answered. "What's yours?" "Kagome," the girl answered. "Were you looking at me because I look like Kikyo?" Yasha sighed and nodded. "Kikyo was my mom," she explained. "But she was cold hearted and very mean. You don't seem to be like that, Kagome." Kagome smiled nodding. Inuyasha cleared his throat. "Just what are you doing in that water?" he asked with a bit of a smile on his lips. Yasha grinned and scrambled out of the water into his arms. "PAPA!" she cried happily as he held her close. "How did you..." he began. "It's a long story," she chuckled. Kagome got dressed and studied the two. "So you are his daughter," she said. Yasha slid down and nd. \d. "I was about to tell you, but I got caught up into how nice you were," she said. "I like you better than Kikyo." "Thanks," Kagome said. "At least someone thinks so." She glared at Inuyasha, who just shrugged with a "FEH!"

"I hope you stay here," Yasha said. Kagome sighed. "For a little while," she said. "Then I have to go home." Yasha nodded knowing that this was just the beginning of a new adventure.
