5: The Moonless Night

Inu Yasha growled as they continued to walk,had had been a week since they had added Meishou to their group and so far the only Shikon shards they had added to their collection were the two from Meishou, three if you counted the one in her head.
“I’m hungry Kagome,” Shippo chirped and Inu Yasha growled, the kit was eating like a maniac, they had to stop and feed him four times a day now, not counting breakfast and dinner. Plus when he wasn’t eating he was sleeping like the dead.
“Shippo, you’ve already eaten three times today and it’s not even noon yet,” Kagome said and Meishou vanished into the trees, only Inu Yasha saw her leave.
“But I’m hungry again,” he whined and Meishou reappeared and grabbed the kit off of Kagome’s bike.
“Shippo, how many winters have you seen?” she asked hiding something behind her as the group stopped.
“I’m ten winters!” he stated proudly and Meishou thought for a moment.
“Well, I suppose it could take kitsune longer, but I have a good idea what’s going on,” she said as she pulled out a rabbit and handed it to him. “You’ve reached the end of your boyhood, your body is requiring more meat to supply your growth. I would advise eating more raw meat.” Shippo looked at the rabbit and then at Kagome.
“Does he have to?” Kagome asked, mistaking the look on Shippo’s face. Meishou snorted as well as Inu Yasha.
“The kit is full youkai, he was raised on eating raw meat. This is only natural,” Meishou stated before bounding off into the woods again. Shippo looked at Kagome as she realized the true meaning behind the look.
“I won’t think less of you, Shippo, now eat up,” she said, even though the thought of Shippo eating the rabbit raw was turning her stomach a little. The little fox kit bounded out of the bike’s basket and up a nearby tree.
“Funny, you didn’t seem to think of that,” Miroku commented to Inu Yasha as they rested beneath a tree.
“It hadn’t crossed my mine, then again it’s female instinct to take care of young, wolf, inu, kitsune. Doesn’t matter the breed, the females seem to know what to do concerning pups,” Inu Yasha huffed, even though he felt foolish for not recognizing the signs himself.
“I think I found a nice cave to make camp for the night,” Meishou said and Inu Yasha looked up, it was still early.
“Why should we stop now?” he snarled and Meishou let out a low growl.
“Because, I’m tired and cranky and on the night of the new moon I like to be in a secure place,” she snapped. “No light makes it easy for darker beings to hunt, I rather not be out on this night.” Inu Yasha paled, he hadn’t been paying attention to that.
“Fine!” he snarled before glaring at her. She turned and lead the way to the cave, the group looking at the two hanyou as they snarled at each other, Shippo quickly following.

~*~*~*~*~ At Sunset ~*~*~*~*~

Meishou sat gnawing on the bones of a deer Inu Yasha had brought down earlier, most of Meishou’s rabbits had gone to Shippou. Both Inu Yasha and Meishou were watching the sun dip towards the horizon.
“Not long now, Inu Yasha,” Kagome sighed and Inu Yasha grumbled and Meishou suddenly straightened up.
“I’m going to go take a bath in the hot spring, I’ll be back around dawn,” she stated before heading into the forest.
“WHAT?!” Inu Yasha cried. “Get back herou’rou’re not going anywhere.” Meishou growled before hopping off and Kagome quickly sprang into action.
“Sit boy!” she cried before standing in front of the hanyou male.
“What was that for?” Inu Yasha demanded. Miroku sighed as he slapped the inu-hanyou over the head with his staff.
“Inu Yasha, if Meishou is at the hot spring, she is close enough so that she’ll be able to protect us if we need her, not that we should, simply lock up the cave with Tetsusaiga,” Miroku stated and Inu Yasha grumbled. Already he could feel his demon powers slipping away and he couldn’t chase after the stupid, selfish female. He stabbed Tetsusaiga into the opening of the cave and let go just in time to see his claws vanish into his fingers.

~*~*~*~*~ At the Hot Spring ~*~*~*~*~

Meishou sat in the water, washing her pale white skin with the sand from the spring’s bottom. Her eyes closing slowly as she thought about her new companions. The brother of her sworn enemy, but he was the only hanyou besides her brothers that didn’t try to kill her. He had allowed her into his pack and, it was clear the set up. Inu Yasha was the Alpha male, Kagome the Alpha bitch, Miroku the Beta male, Sango the Beta bitch, and Shippo was the Omega. Of course when Shippo got stronger that might change, but for now the pup was the Omega.
Meishou sighed and dunked herself underwater, she would enjoy staying with this pack until she found Sesshoumaru, then again, she had no idea what the youkai lord smelled like, so staying with this pack ensured that she would run across him. The trick would be becoming a full demon before he found out her lineage and ended her life as he had her father’s. Meishou sighed as she cleaned her long hair, it was creepy to be out in the complete darkness, but she didn’t want to see Inu Yasha like this, weak and helpless. Something moved in the darkness and suddenly Meishou felt the need to be back at the cave. She quickly got up and dressed, the darkness had gone from her friend to her enemy.
She started to run but suddenly it struck, grabbing her and dragging her into the night.

~*~*~*~*~ At the Cave ~*~*~*~*~

Inu Yasha sat grumbling in the cave, he really had a bad feeling about Meishou being out alone, it wasn’t like they could protect her and he just had a sneaking suspicion something bad was going to happen tonight.
“Inu Yasha calm down,” Shippo chirped. “Meishou’s just not used to having a pack, that’s why she didn’t obey.” Inu Yasha growled something and the kit yipped before running to his surrogate mother. Inu Yasha began to wonder if it really was just Meishou’s disobedience that had set him off, but then there was a flash of white in the woods and Inu Yasha jumped to his feet.
“Sesshoumaru!” he hissed as his half brother emerged from the woods, dragging a struggling form behind him with his good hand.
“Well, dear brother, I see you’ve found yourself a nice den to hide in while trapped in your frail human body,” Sesshoumaru stated, obviously aware of Tetsusaiga’s shield.
“That’s right and there is no way you’re getting in to steal the Tetsusaiga!” Inu Yasha growled, the others were getting up and into ready positions around him. Sesshoumaru simply smirked.
“You left some rubbish out here though, not very wise,” Sesshoumaru lifted up the form and the group could see Meishou’s back as she struggled to free herself. “This human reeks of you and your hanyou blood.”
“Human?” Inu Yasha whispered.
“Perhaps if you saw her face, they do seem to all look the same to me,” Sesshoumaru pulled Meishou’s back to his chest and lifter her face up. It was Meishou, of that there was no doubt, but her ears, fangs, and claws were gone. When she opened her eyes, they were no longer their vibrant blue but a shade of midnight, much like Miroku’s.
“She is human,” Kagome gasped.
