CHAPTER 58: DANGER ZONE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kagome crept into the large study, slightly smaller then their master bedroom. She dubbed the study, ‘the danger zone.’ This one room in the mansion was the one that peeked her curiousity, however; it was completely empty. No one was there.
*thump- thump- thump* She heard the dull hammering echoed off the walls of the elegantly decorated study. Kagome felt sick to her stomach. ‘What was that noise?’ She asked herself trying to calm her nerves. The dull thumping noise was growing louder, turning into a deafening roar in her ears, and it was becoming too much to bare. Kagome rational mind told her it sounded like a heart beat. *thump- thump- thump*
Her hand went to her chest and rested it there. *thump- thump- thump* Kagome could feel the rapid beating of her heart like a stamped of wild horses. ‘Oi, Kags! Calm down its only your heart beat reverberating of the walls.’ Kagome couldn’t help but find that strange. ‘Why didn’t I notice that before?’ Kagome was trying to explain the impossible due to her nerves when her blue stormy eyes glanced up.
There above the mantel of the fireplace was a portrait. ‘It’s exquisite!’ Kagome thought as she stared up at the beautiful oil painting of a lovely woman. No, not a woman, but an Inuyoukai demoness. She had the sky blue eyes that seemed to query all those who fixed their eyes upon her. The demoness had long silver hair that matched two other’s that she knew. It was like a fine spun silk that popped off of the canvas giving it a neither world appearance. Her regal forbearance shown in her smile with a hint of compassion curled into it. But what caught Kagome’s attention next was the ring on the demoness Inuyoukai’s finger.
‘It’s my ring.’ Kagome ogled hard at the ring in the painting and then understanding struck her. ‘Is that Sesshoumaru’s mother?’ Her thoughts went quiet with a motionless query as she gazed at the ring, then at the one that adorned her finger. Sesshoumaru’s words came lingering back to her mind. ‘The ring is known to have power… but it is strange that a human could tap into them.’ Kagome’s feet had a mind of their own as they slowly gravitated toward the alluring oil painting.
He had never sped home like he did from the office before, like a bad man. Sesshoumaru tested the very life of the engine in the car, which he drove unmercifully down the two lane highway. The engine mirrored that of a demonic creature begging to be released out of its prison every time he pressed harder onto the accelerator. His golden eyes stilled flared red as he remembered Rayen’s words. The Lord of the Western Lands hated being imprisoned by anyone, especially when it was an inanimate object, demanded things of him. Oh, how Sesshoumaru wished it was real! Just so he could shred it, gouge his nails through it. Feel how blood was drip from his fingers, and the massive tearing of muscle.
The things that blasted will had him do where things that he didn’t willingly want to do, share, or give into. Sesshoumaru’s temper blazed in a wild primal way wanting nothing more to give into the havoc it wished to cause with one word. ‘Destroy!’ It was what Sesshoumaru’s demonic side craved, in a deafening raging roar.
Sesshoumaru was cursing his father’s witty cunning as he zipped up the highway to his palace estate. Plus, the thought that his bastard brother would get what was rightfully his. No, he would fulfill all the stipulations required of him. ‘This Sesshoumaru had already gone this far.’
Kagome really wasn’t aware of how she got so close to the oil painting. Only that she needed to touch it, to be near it. Her slender hand slowly lifted from her side and rose to touch the aged portrait. The sound of a phone ringing, broke through the magnetism which had claimed Kags and brought her attention elsewhere. Then the hum of a warming up fax machine as it shuffled paper through it gears made her turned to the direction of the noise. Kagome saw papers spilling out on the highly polish red wood floor from the fax machine. Papers rolled out as if it was a spring of water pouring out of the faucet creating a puddle of white on study’s immaculate wood floor. The images on the papers pooling onto the ground had black and white images glossed on them. Kagome shakily walked up to fax machine and pulled out the next photo it currently dispensing.
He pulled into the driveway of the estate and slammed the cars brake to a halt the vehicle’s forward motion, so that he jumped out of the car. Sesshoumaru temper fizzed when the scent of Kagome grew stronger as he neared the entrance. Her scent was everywhere. It compassed the entire palace that used to remind him of a cold and lonely residence, however; Kagome brought life to this home of theirs. Rin seemed more cheery as well as the servants in his employment. Things brightened in his cold hard mind that he didn’t dare use to take notice, or admit. Sesshoumaru knew she was awake and followed her intoxicating scent to locate her.
Kagome almost screamed in outrage at the picture she held in her hand. It was of Kikyou and Naraku. Her blue-gray eyes darkened with righteous fury. ‘What the hell is this?’ was all she could think as her eyes went over the image. The air in the room suddenly changed with a deadly charge. A light glowed around her body, a pink light. Her heart bled for justice while her mind screamed obscenity that the pair frozen in motion. Kagome eyes looked down at the papers scattered everywhere on the floor. She noticed it was like a movie scene playing itself before her. The black and white images upon the floor told their story almost in a crude dance. A dance of deceit.
Sesshomaru felt a power surge gathering in the estate. It was one that would singe anything or anyone that dare challenge it at the moment. It was the righteous fury that he once had felt before. Sesshoumaru could feel his demonic side bolt wildly within him. ‘Kagome!’ It roared inside him, as he locked in at her position.
