It was late into the next night when consciousness finally began to return to the injured Bankotsu and the first, and only thought at that moment to enter his mind was to wonder why his head was pounding. But as the fog slowly began to fade from his sleepy mind, he began to notice the steady throb coming from his shoulder.
Giving quickly on the thought of being able to piece the pieces back together without having to open his eyes, Bankotsu slowly did just that and instantly spotted Jakotsu sitting down on the edge of the bed; smiling down on his softly. "I removed the bullet yesterday. You've been unconscious for quite some time. You must be starving," Jakotsu assume as he helped him to sit up in bed and began spoon feeding him the newest meal he had brought up for him.
Though the question remained unasked, it was not hard for Bankotsu to feel it hanging in the air waiting to be answered. While he allowed himself to be fed, even though he was certain he would have little difficulty feeding himself, Bankotsu let the silence settled over them.
He did not know how Jakotsu would react to what he was about to tell them and didn't want to risk wearing the still warm stew by startling the man feeding him. But once he had eaten as much as he wanted and had gestured to Jakotsu that he was finished, Bankotsu waited for him to set the bowl aside before beginning.
"I followed the trail the men left from our campsite. Once I caught up to them, I took care of them," Bankotsu explained, watching the facial expressions of the man beside him as they began changing quickly. First there was confusion clouding his eyes, but it was soon replaced by them brightening with understanding. His brows furrowed in thought before rising in surprise.
He worried his bottom lip for a moment before running his tongue over them to relieve the dryness. Though he had figured out what it all meant, Jakotsu still felt the need to say things out loud to make sure he had completely grasped what had happened. "You got shot avenging me?" Jakotsu inquired and a moment later when Bankotsu nodded his head in response, he couldn't prevent the floodgates from opening.
"No one has ever done that for me; would ever do that for me," Jakotsu told him through the tears, unable to believe someone had put themselves in such danger for his same, before feeling the unyielding desire to show him his appreciation. Leaning forward, Jakotsu gently pressed his lips to Bankotsu's for a brief moment before sitting back and smiling softly at him.
