Chapter 52 – A Reunion of Sister’s
Chapter 52 – A Reunion of Sister’s
FINAL A/N: Well folks, this is the final chapter of A Sister’s Gift, and I’d like to take a moment to thank everyone who rated and reviewed or just simply read and enjoyed this story. Your support helped me overcome several cases of writer’s block! This is like saying good-bye to an old friend, but I’m proud of it, and I think that I can safely say that it has been enjoyed by many. I am sad to say that my dad passed on during the writing of this story. He was always supportive of my writing, and so I dedicate this story to him.

Now... On with the story!

Six Months Later....
Kagome was so excited that she could hardly think. The journey had gone by so slowly, that she thought she would never arrive. Finally she peeked her head out of the carriage, and could see the village ahead. She could feel her heart racing. It had been so long.
Rin squirmed impatiently beside her. “Are we there yet mama?”
Kagome smiled down and hugged her tightly. “Yes, Rin. We are here.”
Sango was just about to fasten the huge lock onto the gate when she noticed a royal carriage coming through town, surrounded by four guards, and ahead of it road a youkai, or maybe he was hanyou? “Funny, she said to herself, you don’t see that everyday in this place.” She was about to ignore it and continue her task, when she realized that the carriage was not passing her gates, but instead heading toward them.
She watched as it pulled to a stop, and she wondered, “Could it be?”
One of the guards stepped up to her, and the hanyou with silver hair dismounted and stepped to the carriage doors. The guard before her stated in a very official voice, “I am pleased to present Lady Kagome of the Western Lands, and her daughter, Lady Rin, as well as Lady Kikyo, and Lord Inuyasha.”
Sango’s eyes became huge and her jaw fell open in shock as Kagome stepped gracefully from the carriage wearing the finest of silk kimono’s. Holding her hand was a beautiful little girl also dressed to perfection.
“SANGO!!” Kagome screamed as soon as she touched the ground. She ran to her friend who enveloped her with open arms.
“Oh my Kami! Kagome?! I can’t believe it’s you!” Sango squealed. “I was afraid I would never see you again! Where have you been? What are these markings on your face?!”
Kagome laughed and hugged her closely. “Come sister, I have much to tell you.”
“Sango?” Spoke a male voice from behind them.
Kagome turned to greet the one who spoke. “Miroku!”
Miroku did not know what to think. “Is... is that you Kagome?”
Kagome smiled warmly, “Yes, Miroku, it is me.”
Miroku walked up to Kagome and grabbed her hand in his. “May I say that you have never looked lovelier, dear Kagome.” A growl behind Miroku alerted him to Sango’s impending wrath. He quickly dropped Kagome’s hand, then stepped over to Sango and pulled her next to him. Kagome watched this with fascination. “It would seem that I am not the only one with news to tell.” Sango blushed and giggled. Kagome giggled as well, and took her friends hand in hers, as they made their way inside the gates.
Sango led them all inside. Kagome was happy to see Kohaku once again, and she hugged the boy tightly, much to his utter embarrassment. She introduced Rin, and the two of them hit it off immediately. Sirme, Sheora, little Paylae and Fichun came to investigate the new arrivals, and were simply shocked that it was their little miko Kagome. Everyone was as pleased to see her, as she was them. Sheora went straight to the kitchen to whip up some tea for their guests.
Sango and Miroku had a seat, as did their guests, and waited for Kagome to speak.
Kagome looked at her friends, “I guess I should properly introduce everyone. She held Rin’s hand, and smiled. This is my adopted daughter Rin. Kagome looked to Kikyo, and then to Sango. This... this is Kikyo. We found each other during our travels to see the Emperor. She had proven herself to be a great friend to me. Finally, beside Kikyo, is her mate, Inuyasha, he is my brother-in law.”
“Brother-in law?” Sango and Miroku chimed in unison. Sango couldn’t believe it. “You are married, Kagome? To who?”
Kagome prepared herself for Sango’s reaction. “Yes, I am married, or mated rather, to Sesshomaru. We are deeply in love.”
“Wh... What?” Sango said in a shaky voice.
“It’s ok Sango. He is a wonderful mate, and the emperor himself granted him his freedom along with the return of his castle and lands.” Kagome said as she patted her friends’ hand softly.
Sango had a million things racing through her head at that moment, but the main one that repeated over and over, was ‘his freedom’. “Kagome, I... Oh Kami, he will surely come and kill me and Kohaku.”
“NO! Sango, listen to me. Sesshomaru is not going to harm you. You have my word,” Kagome pleaded.
Inuyasha could see and smell the panic from the demon slayer. He figured he might better speak on behalf of Sesshomaru. “Listen Sango, Sesshomaru has no intentions of harming you or your kin. He allowed Kagome to come to visit you. Besides, do you think my impatient ass of a brother, would have waited this long to kill you. He gets uptight when I go take a piss before I come down to breakfast.”
Kagome shot Inuyasha a sisterly glare of death. “I think that ought to about sum it up Inuyasha. Don’t you agree Kikyo?”
Kikyo sent her own death glare at her mate, “Why yes, Kagome I do agree.”
Inuyasha gulped and quickly sat back down, deciding that if he wanted to get through this unscathed, then he would just keep his damn mouth shut.
For a long time Sango said nothing. She only sat quietly staring at the floor. Kagome then noticed that Sango looked close to tears, and Kagome pulled her into her arms. “Please Sango, I promise he won’t...”
“It’s not that Kagome,” Sango said. She looked up to everyone, and said, “I apologize, but Kagome, could I speak with you alone?” Kagome nodded, and followed Sango out into the garden. She finally stopped walking and looked her friend in the eyes tearfully, “Kagome, the truth is... well... I guess I feel ashamed. I mean, look what I’ve become. You have fallen in love with someone who I chained up and made a slave. I’ve always just followed my father’s path with no questions, but you have made me wonder if perhaps... I mean, maybe I should rethink some things.”
Kagome was stunned, but very moved by Sango’s confession. She kissed her cheek and hugged her happily. “You don’t know how much it means to me for you to say that!”
Sango smiled warmly at her friend. “I’ve missed you so much, Kagome. I was afraid you were dead. Kaede is going to be so happy to see you.”
“Oh I have missed you all so much! Tell me Sango, are you courting Miroku the lecherous monk?” Kagome asked teasingly.
Sango blushed and giggled, “He’s not so bad, really. He’s very wise, and patient. He also has a wonderful sense of humor.”
Kagome patted Sango’s arm playfully, “And he’s very handsome! Let’s not forget that.”
“No, I can’t forget that. He’s certain to remind me at least once per day.” Sango said before both of them burst out in a bought of laughter.
After a moment they gathered their wits. Sango took on a more serious look. “Tell me of your travels. For what purpose were you summoned to the capital?”
Kagome reached into her kimono and pulled out a necklace with a large round stone adorning it. Even as a normal human, Sango could feel the pull of the jewel. She looked up to Kagome, “What is this, Kagome? It has so much power,” she said in a low voice filled with awe.
Kagome slipped the jewel back inside her kimono, abruptly breaking its spell. Sango looked up to Kagome then, just as if nothing in the world strange had come over her. She smiled at her friend, “That is the Shikon no Tama.” She wasn’t at all surprised by Sango’s look of shock. “Out of all 100 miko’s called, Kikyo and I were chosen to protect the jewel. It is a great burden, but also a great honor. During our trip Sesshomaru and I, met Kikyo and Inuyasha, who it turned out was Sesshomaru’s half-brother. That was about the time that Sesshomaru and I... well, we became mates,” Kagome said with a blush.
“During the miko challenges, Sesshomaru stumbled across Rin, who was orphaned and alone. We took her in. She’s such a sweet child,” Kagome smiled warmly. “During the ceremony to gift the jewel into our care, an evil hanyou attacked. This monster, Naraku, tried to kill the emperor, and steal the jewel. Sesshomaru, Inuyasha, Kikyo and myself all worked together to save the jewel. Sesshomaru saved the emperor and in return His Imperial Majesty granted Sesshomaru and Inuyasha their freedom and kingdom back.”
Sango stood there in wonder. Her little miko, Kagome, had come a long ways in the last eight months. “Kagome, I’m so proud of you. I know that your parents are as well.”
Kagome hugged her friend tightly. “Thank you Sango. Thank you for everything. By gifting me with Sesshomaru, you gave me the best gift that a sister could ever hope for.”
