Chapter 4: Story Time
At this point Yusuke spoke up. “If we’re going to go through the whole story then I should start. The group did start with me after all.” He signed. “It all began the day I died…” Yusuke started into the tale of how the Spirit Detectives met and their jobs protecting the ningenkai from rogue demons. (I will skip the long explanation. You should all be familiar with the story.) Kagome stayed wrapped up in the story listening as each of the detectives added in their respective stories as they went. Hiei was particularly quiet and Kurama had to tell his parts leaving out the bit about Yukina being his sister of course.
When they were all done explaining everything Kagome heaved a big sigh. “Well,” she smiled “I guess that means it’s my turn to tell my story.” She let out a dainty chuckle and continued, “after all that you might even believe my story.” She took in a large fortifying breath before beginning. “My tale begins on my fifteenth birthday, about three years ago…”
Kagome continued to tell them the story of how she was pulled down the well, shattered the jewel, and the journey to defeat Naraku. She told them of how a piece of her soul had been stolen for the resurrection of Kikyo and Inuyasha’s continued love for the corpse. She explained that they were almost done, most of the shards were in possession of either an ally or Naraku and they were preparing for the final battle to end it all.
As she finished the boys all shared the same look of shock and horror. Even Hiei stared at her in fascination. That even explained how she had become so skilled in battle. She was much more agile then a human should be though. Kurama was the first to speak. “So you are the legendary Shikon Miko, protector of the Shikon no tama?” There was hummer in his eyes as he spoke.
“Yes.” Kagome responded shortly.
“Well I’m not letting my cousin travel though time and fight demons by herself!” Kuwabara announced. “I’m going with you!” With a big sloppy grin he pointed his thumb at himself with his chest puffed out in pride. “I’ll protect you from those nasty demons.”
Kagome giggled at his ridiculousness while the rest of them just stared at him stupidly.
Kurama was the one to break the silence. “Perhaps we should talk with Koenma. If he can get someone to cover the protection of ningenkai then we can aid Ms. Kagome in restoring the jewel and defeating this Naraku. If my memory serves me he was quite a problem back then and defeating him should be a priority.”
“I don’t know Kurama, what if the toddler decides that Kagome shouldn’t be messing around in the past? Who knows how he’ll react?” Yusuke interjected.
“Too late!” Came a cheerful sing song voice as Botan entered the room. “It really is a pleasure to meet you Ms. Kagome. I’ve heard many stories of your great adventures. And you can stop worrying. Koenma knows that your travel is important to how history is to play out. He would however like to meet with you and the boys, so in you go!” She said as she gestured to a portal that had just opened behind her.
Kagome eyed the girl and the portal a little apprehensive. Sure Yusuke had explained about Botan the grim reaper who wasn’t actually all that grim, but that didn’t mean that she all together trusted this new addition to the group in front of her. Yusuke however entered the portal with minimal griping followed by Kuwabara as he gestured for Kagome to follow. “Come on Kags if Botan says it’s ok, then it will be.”
Kurama followed next and Kagome resigned herself. Well she might as well. Not like staying was going to do anything for her. With that thought she followed Kurama into the portal and stepped out the other side into Koenma’s office.
