Chapter 5

“Harry,” everyone cried out as Inuyasha looked his mate over for injures.

“Damn it,” Inuyasha swore as he spotted the scratch marks and small cut’s that covered his mates body, “The demon wanted Harry all along, he just pulled the stunt with Shippo to get Harry to use up his strength and then go against him only the water demon underestimated Harry’s true strength.”

“What do you mean?” Kagome asked as she watched Inuyasha lovingly prop up his unmoving mate against his chest, “Is Harry going to be alright?”

Even though it had only been a short battle the water demon used its brain before attacking. It had used its demon abilities in the water to cause small injuries and to tire Harry out. Once on land the water demon had waited until it had spotted an opening in their defense before attacking.

“We have to get Harry to Kaida’s village,” Sango said as she just looked at Harry’s injured form as she knew better from past experiences, “She has more experience in heading then us plus it looks like Harry might of gotten a fever from whatever poison that the water demon used.”

Kagome hugged her ‘son’ closely, from her training with Kaede Kagome knew that water demons would absorb anything that came into their river from healthy things that could heal all the way to things like pollution and poison.

Trying to remember her training with Kaede, Kagome reached forward to feel Harry’s pulse only to find that she couldn’t, her hand was in a vice like grip.

Inuyasha had his hand tightly wrapped around Kagome’s wrist, his eyes golden and his fangs larger than normal as he seemed to have his demon half in control over his human half.

“Inuyasha?” Kagome asked as she bite her lower lip nervously only to get a growl from Inuyasha as she tried to get her wrist free.

“Be very careful,” Shippo said as he looked between Kagome and Inuyasha who seemed to be in check mate, “Inuyasha has the same look in his eyes that dad had when protecting mum when she was ill...he killed a hundred powerful yokai when he was like this.”

“When a demon’s mate is injured, ill or the such like Harry is then the other mate becomes slightly feral and their strength increases though there are the loss of reasoning skills,” Miroku lectured in an unusual unperverted way for once, “Though it is not the demon’s fault as it is within their nature.”

“How are we going to get Inuyasha back?” Shippo asked as he worriedly checked over his mum who was showing signs that her wrist was being close to getting the bone broken.

“Simple,” came Sango’s voice suddenly as she took out her large boomerang and hit Inuyasha over the head with it.

“Sango!” everyone cried as they watched in horror as Inuyasha got hit with Sango’s weapon, but not budge, jolt or move from supporting Harry.

“That should do it,” Sango said as she put her weapon back into place, she then noticed the looks the others were sending her so she explained, “What? I’m a demon slayer, I’ve got experience.”

Kagome bite her lip to hide her laughter, Sango sounded like that TV advert she had seen back in her time. It was both funny and shocking when her friends in this time seemed to just...come out with things she had seen on the TV, she guessed that the sayings had to start somewhere as the TV people are rarely able to create new things.

“Wait for it,” Sango said with a grin as in shock the others watched as Inuyasha blinked a couple of times before letting out a groan and coming back to his senses slowly.

“What was that for?” Inuyasha asked with a growl as he rubbed the back of his sore head where Sango had hit him.

Before the gang could worry about Inuyasha attacking again, a groan came from Harry causing Inuyasha to redirect his attention, much to the relief of the others.

“Shit,” Inuyasha swore as he took the first aid kit (Kagome had brought with her from the future, though Kaede had added a few things to it as well) from the waiting and ready Shippo, taking it Inuyasha took it and began to try and heal his mate.

“Is he going to be alright?” Kagome asked, this time knowing better she didn’t touch Inuyasha or Harry.

“He’ll be fine if we can get him to Kaede so she can take out the poison,” Inuyasha said as he worked on getting Harry stable, “How long do you think it’ll take us to get to Kaede’s village?”

Miroku answered as Sango was busy checking over Kagome’s wrist; though seeing Inuyasha questioning/worried look Miroku changed his reply.

“Kagome is fine, her wrist is just a bit bruised, nothing broken,” Miroku said with an understanding look, “and it’s a good amount of days to Kaede’s village as we have travelled very far.”

Inuyasha gave a stiff nod as he tried to sort out his mate who was now burning up with fever due to the poison that the water demon had absorbed and used in its attack.

“Will the poison even allow Harry-Love to survive until we can get to Kaede’s and get him help?” Inuyasha asked as he finished cleaning his mate’s cuts.

“It will, this type of poison is slow and has a cure,”” Kagome said with a now bandaged writ, “Kaede taught me about poisons and their cures.”

Kagome gently took the bandages from Inuyasha who flinched as his finger tips touched her bandaged writ.

Kagome gave a soft smile, “It’s alright Inuyasha, I know that you were only trying to protect your mate so let’s do it together.”

Inuyasha looked at the female, he thought of like a sister; he could see the truth, worry, kindness and more in her eyes.

“Alright,” Inuyasha said, the others gave a sigh of relief at this, “and anyway, if I tried to bandage Harry-Love then he’d end up looking like one of those mummies from Kagome’s little brother’s games.”

That had gotten laughter from the others in the group. Kagome had brought with her down the well a book on ancient Egypt and shown them the mummies plus Kagome’s little brother had into Kagome’s bag a game walkthrough sample of ‘When mummies fight back.’ It didn’t help any that Inuyasha tried to join in with Kagome’s healing class, which the subject had been bandages, only for Inuyasha to turn Kagome into a mummy when he got a little too carried away with bandaging.

“So Harry-Kun will be alright?” Shippo asked, worried for his rescuer.

“We’ll get Harry to Kaede’s in time so there won’t be any problems,” Sango said as they watched Kagome finish with Harry, “There’s no need to worry, it was not your fault so don’t go thinking it is Shippo.”

Shippo watched on in worry for his rescuer as his ‘mother’ figure finished with Harry’s healing for the time being.

“That should hold it for a few hours of heavy and fast travel,” Kagome said as she placed the first aid kit away while Inuyasha kept the cold compress on his mate’s forehead.

“We’d better getting moving,” Miroku said as he looked up at the sun’s position, “It’s midday so we should have a good couple of hours before it starts getting dark.”

“Then let’s get moving,” Inuyasha said as he picked Harry up bridal style, allowing Harry’s head to rest against his chest.

The others packed up camp and shared out Inuyasha’s and Harry’s share of things to carry while travelling.

“Has everyone got everything?” Kagome asked as she looked around.

Everyone nodded, even Shippo with his ‘Kurama from Yu Yu Hakusho’ backpack’ nodded to show he’d be a ‘big boy’ and help carry the load.

“Let’s go then,” Kagome said as they started to make their way only for a rustling sound to come from the bushes.

“Who’s there?” Sango called out as they all stood in their individual defense stances in a circle around Inuyasha who was still holding Harry.

The bushes rustled a little more, Inuyasha made sure to safely ‘tuck’ his mate within his red Kimono in case there was an attack Inuyasha would know his mate was safe and protected.

With one last movement of the bushes two hands came out to part the bushes and out came…

Okay, I’m sorry if this chapter isn’t ‘as good’ as my other’s, but I wrote this while waiting for my mum to come out of her surgery.
