Chapter Five
* * *
Kagome looked around the now moist field, it wasn't raining heavily more like sprinkling at the moment but she still hoped that she wouldn't end up making a fool of herself. She looked towards her father and Carlisle as they talked about who would be on what teams, “Sorry to interrupt, but what am I going to do?”
Carlisle frowned, “Well you can play with us- be on one of the teams, or you can keep score like Bella does.”
Kagome hummed while she thought, “Wait, Bella is going to be here?” She questioned.
Carlisle nodded his head motioning over to one side of the field where Bella and Edward were coming towards them.
She jumped when Alice suddenly appeared next to her, “Come on Kagome play! You can be on mine and Esme's team.
Kagome sighed but nodded, “Alright, sounds find with me. But doesn't that leave our teams un even?”
Alice nodded, “Well, the boys wanted to do an boys vs girl game.”
Kagome smirked, “Well then never mind we will be even.”
Esme looked confused, “What do you mean?”
Kagome laughed, “Well if its boys VS girls then obviously my dad will be on our team.”
Alice and Esme giggled and Landon nodded in agreement, “yeah..wait..what?!”
Kagome laughed, “Come on, I say we bat first!” She said, while grabbing the closest bat she could find.
Edward laughed, “Do you even know how to play baseball?”
Kagome stopped, “Well...no. But thats fine!”
Alice snickered, “yeah cause we will beat you 'guys' anyways!”
Jasper rolled his eyes at his wifes behavior, “Right, this is one time I'm afraid I'll have to bet against you.”
A few more moments over banter between to two teams and all of them found themselves on the field starting to play.
At the moment, Carlisle was pitcher, Jasper was at home base while the others were wherever they felt right on the field.
Kagome was waiting to bat, but for the moment the one currently bating was Esme.
Kagome watched carefully while still wondering why they had to play baseball in a storm, she soon found out however when the ball was thrown and then Esme hit it.
Making it sound like a clap of thunder when the ball hit the bat, she saw it fly deep into the forest.
Edward taking after it quickly, while Esme ran around the bases. She had only gotten to Second base before stopping, and then Landon came to bat and the process repeated itself.
When it was finally Kagome's turn she was rather nervous, thankfully- running around the past let her have great speed, but she didn't know so much about bating skills. She hit as hard as she could when the ball came towards her, Making the bat split in the process as the ball soared through the sky she quickly ran the bases.
Sadly though, she didn't make it to the home plate without being called out.
She mock glared at Bella who smiled sheepishly. Kagome chuckled before going to the field as it was now the other teams turn to bat.
The game continued for hours, somehow along the way teams were forgotten and they just started playing for fun.
It was extremely dark by time they had stopped playing, as the storm was finally leaving otherwise Kagome was sure the game would have continued .
They were packing up the stuff when Landon approached Kagome, “I forgot to tell you earlier I'm going back over to Carlisle's for awhile, would you like to come or do you want me to drop you off at home first?”
Kagome looked over at her father while she thought about her answer, finally she shrugged. “I'll just go home.”
Landon looked over her carefully, “Are you sure? Do you want to go back to their house and take the car or”
Kagome stretched before she looked around, “Nah, I'll just walk- it won't be that long.”
Landon frowned, “Well okay if you want”
Kagome laughed, “I'll be fine dad, I'm not a child.”
He huffed, “I know but still I don't like the idea of you going alone.”
“I can go with her.” A voice said behind Landon, who turned around to face the owner of the voice, Emmett.
Emmett smiled, “besides Alice tells me Kagome wants to talk to me about something?”
Kagome looked confused for a moment before it clicked, “Ah thats right! I did want to talk to him about something.”
Landon looked between the two of them before settling with a glare on Emmett, “Fine, but don't try anything funny.”
“Dad” Kagome glared at her father, what was he trying to accuse Emmett of anyways.
Landon shrugged his shoulders before going after Carlisle. Edward and Bella passed by the two, and made their way back to where Edward's car had been. Before reaching the edge of the field however, Edward turned around and focused on Emmett while smirking.
“Don't do anything I wouldn't do Emmett.”
Emmett frowned for a moment before muttering, “So I just have to act like an old prune, no problem”
Edward glared at his brother before smirking and following Bella towards the car.
While Kagome just giggled at Emmett's answer.
Soon the two of them were left alone and Emmett turned towards Kagome, “Shall we?” He asked.
Kagome nodded, “We shall, come lets take this route it will be faster.” before starting in the direction she had pointed to.
Nodding Emmett followed Kagome in the direction she had taken.
* * *
The walk so far had been spent in comfortable silence between the two, for Kagome she was trying to think of how to say what she wanted.
“So, I take it Alice must have told you on why I've been acting so weird?” He asked.
Kagome turned to look towards Emmett, curious- she had thought that it was Edward that was the mind reader.
Seeing her expression Emmett laughed, “I'm not a mind reader or anything, its just your acting how my family did after it happened.”
Kagome nodded, that was understandable. She sighed, “yeah I did- I just don't really get it.”
Emmett smirked, “its not all that bad- now I'm a free man!”
Kagome laughed, “yeah, I guess being single has its good ways but, if you do need someone to talk to- I'm here, I mean, I can relate right now.”
Emmett rose an eyebrow in question, “oh? How so?”
Kagome chewed on her bottom lip as she walked forward, she didn't answer his question for a few moments. “I-I recently had my heart 'broken' I suppose you could say.”
Emmett walked quietly behind her, “Why would someone want to break you heart?” He asked honestly.
Kagome smiled, Well at least she knew Emmett said what he was actually thinking. “I could ask the same question for you.”
Emmett chuckled, “Possibly, I'll tell you my story if you tell me yours?”
Kagome nodded lightly, “Sounds good but lets wait until we get inside and warmed up to talk.” She said while motioning forward showing that they were already at her house.
Emmett nodded and followed her inside, where he received fresh clothing before they both settled down in the living room.
Emmett sighed, “So do you want to start or me?”
Kagome shrugged, “Either is fine.”
Emmett nodded before beginning his tale, many things he hadn't even let Edward know. Kagome didn't interrupt him instead she stared at him not with pity but understanding.
After he was done, instead of giving an answer Kagome started her own story. Telling all about her adventures in the past, the history of what her love life was and every feeling she had been holding in.
She found that not only had Emmett looked like a giant teddy bear, he also gave the same effect as when you would hug one. Except with him all you had to do is stare into his eyes, and you would already feel safe and comfortable.
She found that after only knowing the man for not that long she felt as though she could completely trust him, and she didn't mind at all.
Soon after their 'love life' history stories. They both started talking about nothing and everything that they had lost track of time and soon their talk was interrupted at the sound of someone clearing their throat.
Both looked towards the sound to see Landon leaning against the door way an eyebrow raised in question. “Well this is interesting.”
Both looked confused before looking at one another and noticing just how 'close' they had gotten while they were talking.
Landon chuckled, “Emmett, Carlisle said he needs to talk to you about something.”
Emmett nodded, before turning his attention towards Kagome, “Ill see you soon, thanks!”
Kagome nodded bidding him goodbye and thanking him too.
After seeing him to the door Kagome came back into the living room and glared at her laughing father.
“Did he really need him?” She asked.
Landon nodded, “yeah he did actually- but so anyways, Emmett huh? I didn't know you were into those types of guys.”
Kagome sighed as she sat down next to her father, she mumbled “neither did I”
Landon heard it though, his face grew serious, “Kagome..I think its time we had a talk?”
Kagome looked at her father curiously, “A talk about what?”
“About the birds and bees, no wait- that doesn't make since, about the hummingbirds and the flowers.” he replied
Kagome looked at her father shocked.
Hearing no answer Landon Continued, “See Kagome your the flower and Emmett is the hummingbird and you better make sure he doesn't stick his”
Kagome jumped up and yelped. “No dad! NO! We aren't having this conversation and I'm going up stairs.”
After Kagome was up the stairs, Landon chuckled “that was fun.”
Kagome looked around the now moist field, it wasn't raining heavily more like sprinkling at the moment but she still hoped that she wouldn't end up making a fool of herself.
