~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Kikyo and Inuyasha watched as Kagome stood up slowly, putting her hands to her face before taking a deep breath and opening her eyes…which where a startling blue color.
“I can’t actually believe that worked. Your sister can’t be that strong if even I can possess her like that…” She smirked.
“Asahiro, you will leave my sister’s body or I will have to force you.”
“Feh, why waste your breath on him? Let’s just get this over with. I told you it was a bad idea to bring Kagome along…”
“Inuyasha…” Kikyo warned.
‘Kagome’ walked over to the window and smirked.
”I disagree…bringing Kagome along was the best thing you could have done for me. Now, let’s see what this body can do…”
‘Kagome’ took a step backwards and that’s when fear flooded Kikyo’s eyes.
“Asahiro, don’t…!”
Asahiro forced Kagome’s body to slam backwards into the window, the glass breaking violently.
“KAGOME!” Inuyasha yelled.
The panicked students, staff and police watched as Kagome’s body fell a good twenty feet before landing on the ground.
“Miss Higurashi…!” A police yelled.
“Stay back!” a voice warned them.
The excited crowd saw Kikyo calmly exiting the building. It was at that time that ‘Kagome’ slowly stood up, nevermind the fact she was bleeding from several different places. She turned to face the crowd and began walking towards them.
“H…help me…” she whimpered.
“Don’t touch her…!” Kikyo demanded.
A police officer quickly ignored her command; he couldn’t resist helping a young lady in need. He caught Kagome as she fell to her knees, balancing herself as she placed her hands on his shoulders.
“Miss, are you alright…?”
When Kagome looked up at him with a gentle smile, she nodded.
“Yes…but you certainly won’t be.”
The onlookers watched in horror as a bright black light flooded from Kagome’s hands and exploded the kind officer in half, sending his various body parts all over the place. Kagome stood up, covered in his blood and licked her hands.
“Who’s next…?”
The crowd of students began to flee while the officers brandished their guns.
“DON’T!” Inuyasha yelled.
Kagome continued walking towards the barricaded gates.
“Fire!” The commander yelled.
“No…!” Kikyo screamed, her voice muted over the sound of seven guns firing.
Kikyo watched in horror as the barrage of bullets pierced Kagome’s body, her blood slowly beginning to pool around her feet, yet she continued to stand there and endure all of it until the officers ran out of bullets. Panting and breathing heavily, she looked at the police officers, but more importantly, the older chief standing beside the commander.
“We…well…well…my old man showed up to watch me die a second time…”
The commander looked at the chief standing beside him who seemed frozen to the spot. The bloodied and bullet-riddled body stood up fully and extended it’s arms.
“What’s wrong, dad…? Why don’t you give your son a hug…?”
“It can’t be…”
Kagome’s bloodied body made it’s way over to him, but kept a distance of atleast ten feet.
“Asahiro…what have you become?”
Inuyasha’s eyes were far widened beyond their normal capacity.
“What the fuck is going on, Kikyo…?”
The cold winter’s wind blew, bringing with it bitter cold memories of a winter once upon a time.
“Kikyo…” Inuyasha growled, impatient for an answer.
“Asahiro Kaibaku was one of my first exorcisms. We met when I was thirteen. Asahiro may not look it, but he’s almost twenty-four now…He was seventeen when he killed himself by slitting his wrists.”
”Are you telling me he’s been trapped in that school for…almost seven damn years?”
“It’s my fault…I should have done better, but…I suppose the ward I put on the school would have been enough to stop him and put him to rest.”
Inuyasha stepped forward, his eyes focused on Kagome’s possessed, bleeding and dying body.
“Is that why you brought Kagome? Because she’d have a better chance of drawing out that kid’s soul?”
“Yes. Kagome’s spiritual barrier is so weak, it’s easy for her to be possessed…I knew Asahiro would be attracted to that; he needed a human with spiritual powers in order to leave that building and pass through the ward I put up.”
“But why would you chance Kagome’s life like that?!” Inuyasha raged.
Kikyo turned to face Inuyasha, the same calm expression on her face. Ignoring his question, she walked towards Asahiro.
“Officer Kaibaku, I’ll have to ask you to leave.”
“K…Kikyo, wait…! I just want to ask my son one thing…!”
The expression on Kagome’s face turned to one of actual curiosity. Standing up straight, she spoke the words Asahiro asked from his lips.
”What is it?”
“Why? Why son?”
Officer Kaibaku watched the possessed girl’s face contort into a twisted, sadistic smile.
“Because…you let that bastard brother-in-law of yours rape my mother. Because of you, I was born and because of you, I had to suffer from my idiot classmates…tortured for having blue eyes and blonde hair.”
Tears of blood began flowing down Kagome’s cheeks as she raised her wrists to show what had once killed the spirit inside of her.
“I wanted to live…I really did…”
“But why make Kagome suffer?”
Asahiro wasn’t sure when Kikyo had gotten right behind Kagome’s body, but she was. He made Kagome’s body stand stiff as he continued to face his father.
“True, it’s unfair to make someone who doesn’t deserve it suffer, but…isn’t that what everyone else put me through?”
”Yes. It was cruel and unjust, but why make my younger sister suffer for something I wasn’t competent enough to do?”
Kagome slowly turned around, the same twisted smirk on her face.
“Because she’s forced to live in your shadow all of the time, Kikyo…”
He knew he struck a nerve when Kikyo’s eyes narrowed.
“You looked into her heart…?”
“Of course. Your beauty, your powers…”
He peered around Kikyo and looked straight at Inuyasha before looking back at Kikyo.
“There’s so much she has suffered from living in your shadow, Kikyo…how can you live with yourself knowing that?”
“How can you live with yourself taking advantage of a young girl who just wanted to help you?” she replied.
Kikyo raised her Naginata and ‘Kagome’ smirked. Dropping to her knees in the pool of blood condensing around her feet until it was a puddle.
”Go ahead…put both of us out of our suffering.”
Inuyasha stared in horror as Kikyo thrust the Naginata clean through Kagome’s body, but more importantly, her heart.
“Kikyo…! What have you done!?”
Kikyo’s grip tightened on the Naginata and she closed her eyes.
“Everything in it’s rightful place, spirit and host, separate!”
Kagome’s body glowed and she threw her head back as she screamed in immense pain.
“Wh….what are you doing to me…?!”
The second Kikyo saw Kagome’s eyes turn brown once more, she pulled the Naginata from her heart, pulling out with it, Asahiro Kaibaku. Inuyasha caught Kagome’s body as it fell forward.
“Kagome…! Kagome can you hear me?”
Kikyo walked over to Asahiro’s spirit, a small bit of surprise on her face. Asahiro was covered in every single wound Kagome’s body had. With his breathing labored, he looked up at the older priestess.
“Heh…did you think I was that cruel…?”
Inuyasha quickly looked down at Kagome and saw her body had healed as if there was never a wound inflicted upon her. She groaned a little, slowly opening her eyes.
“Nnn…In…Inuyasha?”
“Kagome…! You’re alright!”
Relief flooded his amber eyes and Kagome slowly sat up. She looked around, seeing a small trail of blood in the snow that led to where Kikyo was standing over…
“Asahiro…!”
Despite the fact her energy was completely gone, Kagome managed herself up and rushed to Asahiro’s side, completely disregarding Kikyo’s presence as she kneeled down and took his hands.
“Asahiro…! Oh…what happened to you? Your wounds…!”
Slowly, Asahiro raised a bloodied hand to the side of Kagome’s face and he smiled.
“Damn, you’re beautiful…you know, when looking at you from an outside view.”
Kagome blushed, her eyes wide with surprise as it call came back to her; he’d taken over her body…
”Why…? Why you idiot…?!” she cried, tears spilling down her cheeks.
He chuckled once more.
“Honestly…you were the only person to show me compassion. It may have been a selfish thing to do, but before I realized I was out for revenge…”
He violently coughed up blood and Kagome kept him steadied as she held him up a little.
“Believe me when I say…that I wish we could have died together. That way, I could always be with you.”
“Asahiro…I don’t understand! Help me understand!”
He smiled, putting her hand to his cheek. She was so warm, even though there was snow on the ground.
“I’ll only say this…maybe it’ll help you understand a little better…I always regretted my life. I was teased, tortured by my classmates and my ‘father’ over there did nothing to stop my conception…”
He coughed up a little more blood before settling once more. It was getting harder and harder to breath.
“…When I saw you in the library, I thought I’d found the perfect guinea pig; you’re spiritual barrier was weak enough for me to take over your body and once I had it, I planned on unleashing my fury on those who’d hurt me so long ago…But in the moments your sister confronted me about hurting you…when you’d done nothing of the sort to harm me…You just wanted to help me…”
Kagome took his hands, tears spilling down her face even faster and she nodded.
”Asahiro…”
”I wished for a moment, before Kikyo separated us, that she’d kill us…I could die with you…You who only tried to help me. Heh…I guess you hate me now, don’t you?”
Kagome shook her head and threw herself over his bloodied body.
“Asahiro…! I don’t! I could never…!”
She raised up a little and put his hands over his heart.
“Hang on…! I’m going to save you…!”
“You’ll kill yourself in the process, Kagome…Don’t do it. He’s already crossing over.” Inuyasha sighed.
“But…!”
”He’s right…” Asahiro chuckled.
Asahiro raised his hand up and placed it on the back of her head with a small smile.
“How about sending me off with that kiss you promised?”
She blushed, trying to smile through the tears.
“Y…you stole that kiss…remember?”
”True, true…how about letting me make it up to you by returning it?”
Kagome nodded and with his hand on the back of her head, she leaned down, placing her lips upon his, tears spilling down her cheeks and onto his. Upon breaking the kiss, Kagome realized his body was disappearing slowly. He closed his eyes and sighed.
“I’m glad my first and last kiss was with you…Thank you.”
Kagome nodded, tears cascading down her cheeks, already numb from the cold.
“You’re welcome…”
Kagome closed her eyes to wipe the tears away and when she opened them, he was gone.
“Asa…Asahiro…?” she whimpered, looking around.
Kikyo kneeled down beside her, placing her hand on Kagome’s shoulder.
“Kagome…he’s passed on.”
“K…Kikyo…”
Kagome threw herself into Kikyo’s arms and sobbed, fresh tears coming forward. Kikyo held Kagome tightly. The officers, students and teachers looked on sadly.
“Forgive me, Kagome…I’m so sorry you had to endure something like that.”
“No…it’s alright…”
Kikyo looked at Kagome in surprise. Slowly, Kagome stood up and looked up, shielding her eyes from the bright, winter’s sun.
“It…didn’t make any sense to me…but, this is my duty, isn’t it? To help those who need us the most?”
Kikyo stood up, looking at Kagome.
“Yes, but…sometimes, helping people also hurts us the most. It harms our hearts more than it does our bodies, I’m afraid.”
Kagome nodded, wiping the tears away once more.
“But…I feel…happier. I met someone…who needed me. Kikyo,”
Kagome watched as a small group of doves flew from the school’s roof and flew into the sun.
“I’m happy. I really am…. and I’ll continue to do my best…for all of those who need me, just like Asahiro…”
Kagome was abruptly brought out of her thoughts when she felt herself hoisted into the strong arms of Inuyasha.
”Inu…Inuyasha…!” she blushed.
“Stow us the mushy crap. You look like hell and it’s way beyond time for us to go home. Kikyo, hurry up.”
Kikyo sighed a little, taking the time to bow and thank Koga and the police for their cooperation, but also apologizing for all of the mayhem. Inuyasha walked ahead with Kagome cradled in his arms. Kagome had never felt so warm before…
“Kagome,”
”Hmm?”
He gave a small huffing sound before kissing the top of her forehead, startling and confusing Kagome to no end.
“Inu…Inu…Inuyasha…!”
“Feh, don’t get all excited. I’m just happy you’re safe. I guess you’ve got what it takes to be a priestess.”
”Really?” Kagome asked hopefully.
He looked into her excited brown eyes and nodded.
“Yeah…”
”Inuyasha…” Kagome smiled.
“Though, you might wanna work on your luck with men…I don’t even think the gods can give you enough good luck with them.” He smirked.
“Inuyasha…! You’re terrible!”

(A/N: Okay, this chapter was SO hard for me to write! PLUS, I was listening to the soundtrack for Princess Mononoke and the one song that came on as I began writing the last few scenes was the song that the women of Irontown sing. Has ANYONE heard it? And yes, I got all emotional writing this chapter…YOU try listening to that song and writing a scene like this without shedding a few tears! Lol, I’m a dork.
(And hey, if you feel like crying to this scene, I suggest downloading Lilium from Elfen Lied and if that doesn’t make you cry, nothing will. XD)
Anyway, please continue to read and write! I know a few of you are thinking;
“Man, there’s barely any smut and the one time Kagome gets some it’s from a dead guy! And one from Inuyasha, but that has like no clear meaning!”
And even then, all she did was get kissed… thrice. And Kikyo still isn’t the ice-cold bitch everyone is expecting her to be. Believe me, I expect flames, lol. I PROMISE…things are going to get better, it’s just you have to be a little patient! Onegai…? Thanks again, all! Please, continue to read and review!)
