Chapter five: Bets and Tickets
Kagome sighed as she watched others play basket ball. Sango was completely getting into it and with Ayame her partner; they were kicking everyone else’s ass. Kagome on the other hand was sitting in the bleachers watching the two running circles around the other players. Even though Kagome liked sports, she also liked the arts much more. The PE teacher never cared what she did either. So there she was, sitting there, writing a story on a pad of paper. She was getting so into the story that she didn’t notice when someone sat down next to her.
“What are you writing?” Sesshomaru’s voice forced her out of her trance.
Kagome blinked for a moment and looked at the silver haired youkai. “What do you want Sesshomaru.” She groaned. It almost seemed like the man just bothered her non stop all the time. If he kept it up, she seriously thought about getting a restraining order.
He sighed, which Kagome had never seen before, and he leaned back on the bleacher. “I want to take you to the Christmas dance.” He said simply.
She looked at him bored for a moment before going back to the pad before her. “I don’t think so.”
“How about a bet then?” His golden eyes turned to look at her.
Kagome groaned, knowing she wasn’t going to finish her writing at this rate. She also had the feeling that Sesshomaru wasn’t going to back down till she humored him. “Fine then. What’s the bet?”
Sesshomaru smirked and leaned forward. “If I can fit your ideal man by the Christmas party, you’ll go out with me.”
“I see where this doesn’t benefit me.”
“If I screw up, even once, then I’ll give up on you. I’ll never bug you ever again.” Sesshomaru even held one hand up, the other on his heart. “Just tell me your ideal man and I’ll be him.”
Kagome looked him up and down. “The Christmas party is in a week. I highly doubt you’ll fit my ideal man. But you’re welcome to try. After all, seeing you lose will be worth it. My ideal man is one that’s there for me. One to hold me when I cry. One who doesn’t see women as an object. I love it when a guy holds me, just to feel the closeness of each other’s touch.” She sighed and had a far off look in her eyes. “I don’t want anything fancy, just a guy to be there and share moments with me. Almost my prince shinning. When I’m upset, all he does is hold me, his voice the only thing to calm me. Protect me even. A guy who needs me just as much as I need him. One who never lies to me. Hell, just someone who I can love. And a guy to just say he loves me.” Kagome stopped, her face going red as she realized who she was saying this to.
“Then again, all these things are everything that your not. So just give up Sesshomaru.”
Sesshomaru smirked and took her hand. “I’ll be your knight in shinning armor.” He whispered, his breath ghosting over her hand before he kissed it. “One week and I’ll prove I’m the man for you.” He stood, letting his hand slip smoothly from hers before he went down to the court where a couple men called him over to play against the two girls.
Kagome just sat there, Goosebumps up her arm. “Oh damn… he’s good.” She muttered.
**
“How did it go?” Inuyasha asked his brother in the locker room.
Sesshomaru narrowed his eyes at Inuyasha. “It went fine.” He answered. Even though he looked calm and cold on the outside, his insides was twisting and turning. He was seriously nervous about the whole thing. It was a first that she didn’t push him away and called him an idiot. He would never admit it out loud, but he was happy to even touch her hand. To feel her shiver at his touch.
“Now its time for step two. Show her you really care.” Inuyasha passed over two movie tickets to his older brother. “Ask her to it. She talked about this movie for months. It’s rare that they would come to theaters. So if you ask her out to it, she’ll go nuts.”
Sesshomaru looked at the tickets and arched an eyebrow. “She’ll like it? What makes you so sure?”
Inuyasha nodded. “Sesshomaru, I know her better then you ever will if you keep that up. She loves stuff like this. I mean, she dragged me to see Cats. You know how I hate things like this. But it’s her dream to be in a musical. So if you give her these tickets, she’ll lose it. On top of that, you’ll see her in a dress.” The Hanyou couldn’t help but to smirk at the wheels that was turning in his brother’s head.
“Fine.” He said, pocketing the tickets. “But if you’re wrong Inuyasha, I will rip those ears off the top of your head.” He turned to go, only to have Inuyasha grab his arm.
“Look Sesshomaru, when you ask her, beware of Kikyou. Woman’s like a fucking shark I swear. If she see’s you asking Kagome to that, she’s going to demand blood. I know Kagome can handle herself, but just watch out okay?”
The taiyoukai smirked and gave a small nod before leaving.
**
Kagome sat at the lunch table, her hand sitting in her lap. She could still fell the touch of Sesshomaru’s own hand on hers. Just thinking about it sent shivers down her spine. It almost made her happy just thinking about it. Maybe he wasn’t as bad as others said he was. Then again, the man was known to sleep with half the school just for a challenge. But if it was true, then why was he trying so hard to win her over? If it was just a game to him, why did he stick up for her, ask her to the dance even? So many questions that she had, but no answers to it either.
“What’s up Kagome?” Ayame asked.
Kagome snapped out of it and looked at her friend. “Tell me Ayame, when Kouga takes your hand and kisses it, does it send shivers down your spine?”
Ayame looked at her for a moment before bursting out laughing. “Kouga? If he ever can stop calling me his woman and start being romantic then maybe.”
“It does to me when Miroku does it to me.” Sango said, sitting down on the other side of Kagome. “It’s a warm feeling that makes me ach for him to do it again.”
“What does that feeling means?” Kagome asked Sango.
Sango thought for a moment. “I guess you get that feeling when you harbor special feelings for someone.” She stopped for a moment before slowly looking at Kagome. “Seriously do tell. Whose this special someone whose touch our Kagome’s heart?”
Ayame giggled. “That’s a good question. So do tell, who is it?”
“Excuse me ladies, would it be too much to ask for Kagome’s time for just a moment?” Sesshomaru asked the two.
“No.” Both girls answered.
“Give it up Sesshomaru.” Sango snapped. “Kagome’s already found someone.”
Ayame gave a nod. “Your time here is done. Go away Sesshomaru.”
Kagome sighed and stood. “Guy’s, I’ll be right back.” She left her two friends, just imaging the look on their faces. “What do you want Sesshomaru?” She asked.
He watched her for a moment. “What did they mean by you’ve found someone?”
The raven haired girl rolled her obsidian eyes. “Their being stupid. Anyway, what did you want to talk to me about?”
Sesshomaru reached into his pocket and pulled out two tickets. “If you want, I wish to take you to a play tomorrow night.”
Kagome looked at him for a moment before taking one of the tickets. Looking it over, her eyes began to widen in surprise, then in shock. She finally looked back at him, the shocked look never going away. “Is this tickets to see Phantom of the Opera? The play?” She whispered.
The silver haired youkai gave a small nod. “Its vip tickets.”
“How did you know I love musicals?”
Sesshomaru allowed a small smile to play on his face. “A little bird told me this morning. Though it wont be worth seeing unless your there with me.”
Without knowing what she was doing, Kagome threw herself at Sesshomaru, hugging him around the neck. “Oh my god! It was one of my favorite movies ever! I can’t believe you have tickets to see this! Oh thank you Sesshomaru, you’re the best.”
Sesshomaru blinked for a moment before wrapping his own arms around her waist. She felt so perfect in his arms. He just wanted to continue to hold her forever. Her small frame fit so well against his larger form. “Your welcome.” He whispered softly.
Kagome blushed deeply, realizing that she just threw herself at the biggest playboy in school. Pushing away from him, her blush only got deeper. “Sorry about that.” She choked out. “Um… what time did you want to pick me up tomorrow?”
He smiled and took her hand again. “I’m going to pick you up around noon. First I’ll take you shopping for the perfect outfit for our date, then dinner before the show. How does that sound?”
Kagome bit her lip before nodding. The butterflies in her stomach just wouldn’t settle down. “I’ll see you then.” She muttered.
He kissed her hand and let her go. “I can’t wait.”
**
Kikyou stood not too far away, the look of utter shock written all over her face, soon replaced by pure rage. “That bitch.” She growled. “How dare she think that she has a place anywhere near Sesshomaru. I believe its time that someone showed her her place in this school.”
