Chapter five: Scars
Kagome sat up on her mat wondering about things.
Things like Setsuna, InuYasha’s wounds, Yuna, InuYasha, Sango’s wounds, Miroku’s wounds, InuYasha, Shippo’s injuries, InuYasha. ‘Why am I thinking about him? I mean I do like him, but he keeps pushing me away. All he cares about is his dead girlfriend.’
InuYasha sat in his room thinking about things.
Things like Naraku, Kagome, Setsuna, Sango’s wounds,
Kagome, Kikyou, the jewel shards, Kagome, Monk’s wounds, Kagome. ‘Why am I thinking about her? I mean I do like her, but she keeps pushing me away. All she cares about is Hobo or whatever his name is.’
Setsuna walked down the lonely hall toward a room. She knocked on the door and listened to Yuna whimpering.
“Yuna?”
“Go away!”
“Yuna . . . Look I am sorry I didn’t tell you sooner and that you had to find out that way but your mother wanted you to live a healthy life after her death. I know I should have told you of her and her death but I could not bring myself to see you cry like now.”
“Why?”
“Why what?”
“Why did she have to die?”
“Life and death are a mystery and all we can do is accept it as inevitability.” Yuna sat quietly and thought of what Setsuna’s words. “So, are you going to let me in or what?”
“Ok.” Setsuna entered and sat next to her. “Why does it hurt?”
“That is because it is becoming a scar on your soul and heart. A scar I did not want you to have.”
“Why do you want to shelter me?”
“Because I do not want you to suffer as I do. I do not wish for others to share my burden.” Yuna looked at her straight in the eyes.
“Do you like to suffer?”
“No, I must.” Setsuna stood and left Yuna to think about some things. Setsuna walked down the hall toward her room and she sat down wondering where life went wrong. “I have no one to blame but myself.”
Kagome sat on her mat and heard Setsuna’s voice.
“Setsuna?”
“Yes?”
“May I speak with you?”
“Yes, you may.” Setsuna opened the door and entered.
“What do you wish to talk about?”
“InuYasha is your brother right?”
“That is correct.”
“Why were you never around?”
“I was taken from our mother a few months after our birth. A maid took me in. On her death bed she told me of my lineage.”
“You said you were afraid to look for InuYasha. Why?”
“I heard tales of his temper and I grew afraid. Yuna offered to go instead of me.”
“He does have a temper but he would never hurt someone who didn’t mean any harm.”
