Ch. 5 Bang bang
Sesshomaru gathered his resolve and approached the hut with new intent. Plus the fact that he had all the miko’s supplies did not go unnoticed. Not to add he had a score to settle with Ka-go-me. Just thinking about her name gives his curiosity a tick as to what she seems and what she is. Day’s before Kagome have seemed like a distant memory, but they resurface more in her company than he can keep count. Most for some reason, Ireland and all their folk lore, seemed to keep running a muck in his mind.
That and Sarah. Ok, mostly Sarah and her stories of her people’s and past, faye’s and hyuume’s. Talking animals, well excluding his present company. They all never heard of demons or of the place he hailed from, lands of his fathers was never heard from there. He stayed in Ireland form the time his mother died, till Inuyasha was born. His return was not as welcomed as he would have hoped. Coming home only to realized that his father had remarried and had a son, to a hume no less. Well shock could cover a portion of his feelings on that matter.
But this is all a digression of the real thoughts at hand.
**Many years into the Past**
Sarah, she had compassion and understand to all things new. When he first left Japan, he was in a depression on like any he had ever seen, just floating with the wind.
His mother had passed and The Great Lord of the West wanted his heir to be strong, he watched her burn like straw in a fire. The smell wouldn’t leave his sensitive nose. He began at a run but his father’s demons tracked him just outside the gates. He looked back and yelled, “I never got to tell her good bye. Never got.. tell her that I love her more than the moon loves the stars and the sun loves the cloud.” His dark green aura flared out and pushed the men back. “Get back,” he yelled, “ before it comes.” Raising to the occasion, his beast bellowed at the armored demons, than his aura flared out and engulfed him in a light that covered their eyes.
It was as if the wind wanted him to leave, if only for three hundred and four years, but it had such an impact on his nearly immortal life. When he finally landed from his wanderings of many years he was beyond exhausted. Lacking in nourishment for so long had left him weak and less muscle mass, he fell from the sky as if an angle falling from heaven. She said she saw him falling and ran to the woods. Sarah, always an adventure seeker but never finding an adventure till he came.
To say that Sesshomaru fell hard would be nice, but this isn’t a nice story. He hit nearly every tree branch, than down a hill only to land in a lake. He looked at the sky and said, “Like the sun loves the clouds...” Than darkness took him.
That is a magnificent splash, thought Sarah. Realization dawned on her though, if that splash was that big than did something big make a splash? She cautiously approached, small dagger in hand, and looked across the lakes rippling surface. What sort of trick is this, she was bewildered. There in the middle appeared a boy, but he was far too skinny, and he had an unnatural shade of silver hair. Pressed on hard times, Sarah thought the hair would do her good to try and sell at the market. Caution an ever wavering pest in her mind she threw to the wind and waded to the boy with silver to spare.
As she swam closer she noticed he must be sick, or near death. His skin was a deathly shade of white, his fingers looked like nothing but claws. She chanced another glances to his silver tresses and decided to fore go that idea. Never a greedy person, even when times were low, she would give this man boy a warm place and what she had left of her food. In the marrow she would know of his strange ways and odd habits.
** Cottage of Sarah McCormick**
He began to resurface back to the land of wakefulness, and chanced to open his eyes. He peeked past slits and squished his eyes shut from the harsh light that he thought would burn his eyes like poison. Straining a second time he peered and looked at a small hearth fire down to embers.
Rising to a sitting position he looked around, still no signs of life. It looked like a small cottage of sorts. A bed up against the wall, with a small table and single chair in another corner. Small basin with dishes and a few cups inside, but above that there was a window. Tree’s were his only view from his position on the floor. Taking the ultimate plunge he sniffed. Pine needle, and cinnamon filled the air.
Staggering to his feet he reached across the small dwelling, fatigue already plaguing his demon body, he ventured outside. There was a woman, talking to children as if they were far more superior to her. They could have been but she did not seem slow, or mentally disturb for that matter. He understood her language from scrolls in his fathers study and a man, from outside of his lands, that was an ambassador for other foreign affairs. She had an accent, not too thick, but enough to distinguish from a crowed.
She was telling her tale about a wood nymph and man, named Scott, that fell in love with her. She got captured and was in a market to sell. People wanted nothing to do with the trader cause he always had high prices and bad wares. When the man, Scott, saw the nymph, in a tiny cage made of wood and twine, he would not listen to reason. He wanted, nay, needed the nymph. He gave the merchant every copper shilling he owned, he even offered the clothes on his back if it were so he could have her. The merchant peered at the man and mulled it over, but decided to not look at the naked man’s behind today.
The children began to laugh, and Sesshomaru smiled feeling the sunshine on his face once more. It lightened the mood around him as well. She pressed on. The man waved Scott to follow him to the nymph, than handed him the container with a warning. Don’t let her trick you into opening, she’ll do anything to be free. Remember you bought her because she was foolish and lazy. Scott didn’t listen to the man once he had his prize. Looking back up, pixie in hand he nodded once to the merchant and walked towards the woods.
Once in the woods, Scott started to talk to the wood sprite telling her about himself and how he came to be. Telling her of when he was a boy and all the foolish things he did to try and get out of chores. The nymph kept her silent vigil. Scott just shrugged his shoulders and told her that he would make her happy. They walked for four days, Scott only taking breaks to eat and drink. The nymph thought that strange that a hyuume need not sleep, but kept her sweet silence. Soon her surroundings looked familiar, her home was nay but a few trees from here. Twitching with excitement she looked around her surroundings and slumped back into her depression. When the hyuume, Scott stopped, he laid down and placed the caged nymph on his chest and opened it slowly. Than he fell asleep. The small creature looked to her left and right and than at her sleeping savior. Flying low near his face she place a kiss on his brow and whisper her thanks.
As she flew a glow behind her where the man, Scott slept....
Sesshomaru fell before the story could finish and all eyes and faces turned to his fallen form on the ground. Sarah rose and told the children to leave and return in the morning. Reluctant at first with weary eyes, they veered back towards they’re designated homes, mumbling about weird looking travelers and strange clothes.
Sarah looked at the fallen demon and smiled. Never had he felt so comforted as he had in that moment, by and human no less, and all he could do was look away. Kindness, of any caliber embarrassed the heir, foreign as it were to his very being. He tried to rise but was placed back down with a gentle hand and a stern accent hit his ears. “Aye, yoo. Yoo hungrey?”
Sesshomaru cleared his throat, trying to by time, than started. “Yes, I need meat. Raw.” He stated. A light flame atop his cheeks.
“Ees that all?” She didn’t seemed fazed. Though a bit miffed at the command. They would get along till Sarah would grow old and grey.
Sesshomaru’s first and probably only friend, but it would take him a few years to understand that.
**Back to the Feudal Era**
Shaking his head to try for the ump teenth time to not meddle in his past, some things, even with years, still hurt to think about. He stood now, in his present, looking at the old miko hut trying to summon the courage to go into that hut and talk to his wood nymph. Seeing his feet not moving in the direction he wanted he started a low growl at his own person, than he sensed them. His pack near the hill by the willow, he looked at the hut one more time and rose to great Rin and tell her to stay in the elder miko hut. Giving him a good excuse in the morning to go to the hut and confront the miko.
With a new stride in his step he walked back to his own taichi and could not wait for tomorrow morning to come.

The miko was woken from a peaceful slumber to be asked to scoot over so Rin could sleep too. Still fogged in her dreams, she meekly nodded her head and scooted than snuggled with Rin on one side and Shippou on the other. Feeling safe and surrounded she started to wake. Nature was calling for said onna and as most people know about nature never has to wait.
Gracefully, even she knew that was odd, she gathered herself and her tooth brush. She knew that it was nearly morning any ways. Plus she was getting rather hungry and absently wondered if she there was anymore fish. Finding a bush, she completed her business. Than started towards the stream to begin her morning ritual of self grooming, washed her face and started on her teeth. Mid brushing she looked up at the sky and saw the predawn rise and sift out the stars and darkness, she sighed as the day was going to start like any other day.
Spitting into the stream she washed her tooth brush and grabbed her toothpaste and headed back to the village. She had a profile in need of paint. Furthermore she need her pain by the tree. Stopping off at the hut she changed into a comfy pair of jeans and a hoodie. Forget the t shirt, she thought remember what Souta used to do, hoodie’s are like a jacket and t shirt. Stiffening her gait, she got her cd player and changed Sinatra’s wanting to think about family with his help was ok, just not by herself.
Finding her song and her memories she pushed play and started to walk. Checking the volume and setting it to max. She remember her and Souta playing cops and robbers in the backyard and her mom playing this song and them going to the beat of the song. “I was five and she was six, We had horse’s made of sticks... I wore black and she wore white, She would always win the fight...” Kagome had to laugh at that, cause it was true, she had to beat her brother at everything. The more she thought, the more her eyes began to sting with unshed tears. The next part always made the tears fall down her porcelain cheeks. “Bang bang, she shot me down.. Bang bang, I hit the ground.. Bang bang, that awful sound.. Bang bang, my baby shot me down..” As the instruments to the lead for a moment she remember her mother tell her to be softer with her brother cause he was smaller.
“Be nicer to you sister,” Kagome repeated her mothers words, “who knows when you might break her.” They laughed than, all three of them. The singing picked up again and she walked up the hill towards her willow. Singing to the song that made her remember things best left to be thought alone. “Seasons came and changed the time.. And we grew up, I called her mine.. She would always laugh and say, ‘Remember when we used to play?’.. ‘Bang bang, I shot you down.. Bang bang, I shot you down.. Bang bang, you hit the ground.. Bang bang, that awful sound.. Bang bang, I used to shoot you down.”
In his tree once more, gazing her journal for a final time, he stirred out of his musings to hear the object of his.. Gah! This infernal onna, causing me to stop thinking. What’s next, he ranted in his mind, not breathing. OR maybe vomiting in her face? You inferior beast, he yelled to himself, we are going to do this the right way. Ending before he would have a silent battle with his beast he watched the woman going to the willow and... Crying? No, it must be the first light playing with his mind. Instantly, his beast took action before he knew what was happening, he was sitting next to the Kagome.
She was still caught in her memories of her family. Jii-jii and his stories of the old times ‘when things were harder and it took him fifteen days to make a very powerful this or that. Never, in her thoughts, did she feel two strong hands from the demon of her affections grabbed her and sit her in his lap and began to purr.
Sinatra continued to flow out the head phones never wavering or stalling. “Music played and people sang... Just for me the church bells rang..” Memories, thought Kagome bitterly, always when I think they are gone from me they all hit me at once. Tears, a river of tears met at her chin and fell as one hitting her lap.
She sniffled and sighed pushing pause, and in that moment it rushed at her. Colors raced in her eyes and blended together. She felt a rumbling all over her body. On instinct she stiffened and mentally screamed earthquake, but it continued on. Colors slowed down to a snails crawl and she tired to her rumbling source.
“Why did you turn off the noise?” Asked her rumbling companion. She blushed and looked away. “What happens at the end?” The demon asked, genuinely curious.
“It reminds me of my family and mostly my little brother. It makes me sad,” she paused and looked at him maybe even through him, “ and its.. hard to remember them and not be sad. I lost them all, all in one night. Now I’m alone and my taichi finds me as a burden, but they will never tell me. I’ll just see Rin more and be used to what I am. A shard detector.”
Sesshomaru’s beast began to recede but gave him a cautioned statement before totally disappearing. If you don't tell her that we have chosen her , than I will have to do the honors. We need her, and she needs us. Tell her! Today. When the last part was met with a slight growl he knew it ment business. He was shocked that this miko, this Kagome, would open up to him and how angered she was on the inside as well as hurt and used. So she knows, he pondered, maybe we need to have a walk. He reaches into his sleeve and pulls out her colored waters. “Lady Kagome, would you like to accompany me on the status of my ward? Plus,” he started while placing her back down on the ground than grabbed her hand, “ I would like to see the rather large picture of this Sesshomaru that you made.”
The young miko nodded her head and they rose together. As they started back down the hill Kagome could wait no longer and asked him, “Sesshomaru, what is a hume?”
