Chapter 5: New Moon Jitters

'This is bad this is really fucking bad.' thought Inu-Yasha as he walked through the woods on the day his would come. Kagome studied him as he walked alongside her. He looked more worried than he usually did on this day. "Inu-Yasha...Is something wrong." she asked.

"Thank you Inu. I am missing my mother." she said and looked at Sango. "I'll walk to the well." she offered. The two women walked off Shippo bounce along after them. Miroku turned his dark eyes on Inu-Yasha. "Where are you really going?" he asked. "I have a slim chance to be happy with someone I have loved for a long time. I have to meet them tonight." he said softly. "Kikyo?" he asked. "No not her, never her." he said softly. "I really have to go Miroku." he said. "At least tell me who in case we need you tomorrow." Miroku begged. "Promise you won't hate me?" Inu-Yasha asked voice filled with fear. His eyes held a panic derived from loneliness and sorrow. "Of course I won't hate you Inu-Yasha. You can't help who you love."

"It's Sesshomaru." he whispered. Miroku looked surprised but not revolted as Kagome would have. "Look Inu-Yasha demons see family ties differently. I know that. If you love him and he finally accepts you then you should go to him. Now get going." The half demon hugged the human and raced off excited.

Meanwhile...

"So what's wrong with Inu-Yasha? Ever since I went a while ago he's been acting so weird." Kagome said contemplating her friend's odd behavior. "I don't know Kagome. Whenever you leave he takes off on his own. Always in the same direction. The west. I thought he might have been looking for Kikyo." the slayer admitted. Kagome's face fell. She loved Inu-Yasha and her heart hurt when she thought of that cold dead bitch trying to kill Her Inu. "Keep an eye on him Sango. He's so vulnerable tonight." the miko sighed. "I know my friend." Sango replied. Kagome jumped into the well and the future.

Sango headed back to meet the boys. "Where's Inu-Yasha?" she asked. "Took for the night." the monk replied. She looked at him. Suspicion lurked in her brown eyes. The monk schooled his features to not give his friend away. He wasn't about to tell the others this secret that was for the half demon to do himself. "He's not sneaking off to see Kikyo is he?" Sango demanded. "No but he is meeting someone. That's all I can say." he said his tone firm. The nodded convinced.

Inu-Yasha made it to his brother's territory before the change. He need to show his brother his secret. No sooner had sat on a log his brother appeared. "You came." he said his voice cold. The younger brother flinched. "Yes, but before we go anywhere there is something you must see." he said his voice saturated with fear. The sun finally fell and night rose.

Inu-Yasha's hair bled black. His gold eyes became a lovely shade of violet. His dog ears disappeared and he felt deaf for a moment. His last line of defense, his claws and fangs, disappeared. "I'm human once a month. Always on the new moon." "How long does it last?" asked Sesshomaru. Despite his total shock he was curious. "Till the sun rises." Inu-Yasha answered. "Well I'll just have to be gentle. Come here little brother." he commanded. The half demon obeyed. Sesshomaru pulled him close and rose into the air. They set down at the move of a cave. As he passed through a glittering barrier sprung up.

"Even your magic is pretty." Inu-Yasha. Then came a sound he had never heard. Sesshomaru was laughing. It was a low warm sound. He was sitting on a bed of furs. "Why? Why now after so much hate." Inu-Yasha asked staring at his brother. "I can feel again. I don't feel so cold around you. I want you." he growled with hungry eyes. "Someone wants me?" he whisper a smile ghosting his face. He tackled his brother. Sesshomaru fell back onto the furs and rolled until Inu-Yasha was under him.
