Alone Again

Sesshomaru ever more determined to relocate the village that he came across this morning. The scent of people was wafting in his nose; he knew that he was going to have a hell of a time getting Rin to do the deed. His hatred of mortals strikes deep within his soul, and knew that if he tried to convince the villagers to take in Rin, they would probably kill her for being a witch or a demon herself. As they reached the gates to the village, Sesshomaru stopped and turned to Rin. For a moment her heart stopped, thoughts flickered in her mind. “Did he change his mind? Does he think is just going to leave me here? Why can’t I be with him? Why doesn’t he return my love?” her thoughts were interrupted when Sesshomaru spoke.

“Rin you will go into the village and you will ask for lodging and possibly a job. There’s a small temple inside, possibly they will allow you stay there and help keep up the temple. I do not want any trouble from you. You WILL go in there and stay there. If I were to pass by this village again I expect to find you here.” With that he turned away and started down the trail away from Rin and Jakken who was standing at the gates of the village without turning around.

Earlier that day Sesshomaru had instructed his servant Jakken to stay with Rin in the village until she was settled he told him that it should be at least 2 days so that he could successfully get away. Jakken agreed and said that he would find him again at an agreed upon location. In 4 days.

After watching Sesshomaru walk out of sight, Jakken turned to Rin and lead her through the village gate and toward the temple that their lord had spoke of. Rin was surprised that Sesshomaru trusted her to stay at the village and not to follow after him. He didn’t turn around, he didn’t say goodbye, and he just turned and walked away, away from her, away from what could have been. This made her sad, sad to the point that she fell to her knees and began to cry. In between her hysterical sobs she managed to gasps, “How…could…he…just…leave…me?” Jakken, who couldn’t understand Rin’s outburst, tried to comfort her. But not knowing how to respond, he tried to compose her, so that she could walk through the village. Once she was able to stand up without assistance, Jakken said,

“Rin, Lord Sesshomaru asked me to stay with you until you were settled. If this helps matters, I believe he does want what is best for you, and he feels that being on your own is what is best.”

Rin was still obviously upset, but knew that this was where she was, and hoped that she had left enough of an impression on her lord, that one day he will return for her. So as his final words to her instructed, she will find a place to live her in this village that her beloved picked for her and wait for his return. The pair walked toward the temple. It was dignified, painted dark red with tall pillars and a beautiful rock garden in the front. Word had reached the temple guardian that there were visitors before Rin and Jakken made their way to the doors of the temple. The doors opened and the elderly guardian greeted them,

“Hello there strangers, is there something that we can help with?”

Jakken was going to answer, but Rin cleared her throat and did as her lord said,

“I have come here in search of a new home and life. I have been traveling the land and now it is time for me to settle. I am a hard worker and very disciplined. I have a troubled past and my companions from the road suggested that I try to find a village with a temple and see if there was lodging and possibly some work.” As Rin was talking the guardian looked over at Jakken.

“Your traveling companions were demons?” He asked

“Yes, they rescued me after my village was attacked and my family killed. Because I was all alone they allowed me to travel with them.”

“I see. Would you like to stay here at the temple and help me tend to the grounds? As you can tell I can’t exactly tend to the grounds like I use to.”

“Yes, that would be ideal. I can be of great assistance to you. I’m eternally grateful to you for your kindness.”

“And you, demon, will you be staying with this young woman?”

“No sir, I have been left to see that she is settled. I can stay for a couple of days till she is comfortable, but I must rejoin my lord.”

“Of course. And what is your name milady?”

“Rin.” She answered meekly.

“Well I’m Jiro guardian of the Shiloh Temple. Let us walk the grounds and let you get familiar with what your responsibilities are going to be.”

Jiro walked the duo around the temple grounds explaining what Rin job duties are going to be. Which consists of waking with the sun and tending to cleaning the temple prayer spaces, cleaning the wax and lighting the incense. She would help Jiro tend to the rock garden, something that Rin was actually excited about. The rest was more like housekeeping and some light cooking. She didn’t want to stop traveling but if her lord wanted this then she will do it with the best of her abilities. After walking the grounds Jiro lead Rin to her room, it was small with a mirror on the wall and table below it with a water basin resting on it. In the opposite corner was her sleeping mat. There was one window that she could see the open valley beyond the village, maybe one day she will be able to see her lord return through that valley. Jakken and Jiro left the room so that Rin could settle in; they went down the hall to the dinning room waiting for Rin’s return.

Rin fell to the mat and began to cry once more. She was heart broken, she will do this and do it well, but everything in her body hurt. Jiro was a very nice man, but Rin was in love and nothing in the world could match being with the one that you want more than air. She was glad that Sesshomaru asked Jakken to stay with her for a little while, but she was losing her family again and that also made her cry. She was alone and scared all over again. She envisioned herself as a child watching her village being destroyed and pillaged, seeing her family fall at the hands of the bandits, realizing that she was now all alone in the world. With all this flooding her mind, Rin fell asleep.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sesshomaru walked, he walked until he couldn’t smell Rin’s scent, until he couldn’t see the village. Once he had accomplished that he stopped and thought about is departure from Rin. As he walked away he smelled her tears fall. It made him weak for a moment. He knew that he didn’t say goodbye, but he just couldn’t look at the hurt in Rin’s face. The path for them didn’t end there, he knew it, she was just as much a part of his life as she had expressed to him. In that moment, he decided that he would go back to her one day. She had his heart, something he didn’t even knew he had. But one day he will return to get what was his.
Sesshomaru was about a half days travel from Rin’s village, but for some reason, something in the air called for him to turn back. But he thought that it was just his heart trying to call him back and thought that by the time he return it would late in the evening and Rin would expect him to take her with him. So ignored it. He just knew that he wouldn’t travel anymore this day, so he decided to sleep. But that was something that his body wasn’t going to let him do.
Sesshomaru had finally managed to quiet his thoughts and rest for a moment, but as surrendered to slumber, he felt something approaching quickly. Then he smelled a familiar smell. Then he heard the loud shrill voice shouting his name. Hearing Jakken’s voice wasn’t something that he wanted to hear, he knew that if he was hearing his voice that there was something wrong and that send shivers up his spine.
“Lord Sesshomaru! Lord Sesshomaru! Where are you?”
Sesshomaru could smell his blood on his servant but it wasn’t his own. He feared the worst, but it was the blood of Rin. This made Sesshomaru get up and begin to sprint toward his servant. Once he caught up with Jakken, he saw that there was a lot of blood on his clothing and thought the worst, that Rin was dead. But knew that at least that he could revive her.
“Jakken what happened? Did something happen to Rin?”
“ Oh, my lord, the village…(gasping for breath)…attacked… Rin….hurt.”
That was enough for Sesshomaru he ran past Jakken and headed straight toward Rin’s village.
“Wait…master…wait for me.”
In Sesshomaru haste he didn’t want to hear what Jakken was trying to tell him about the situation that happened at the village. But Jakken knew that he had to explain, everything to Sesshomaru, before they reached the village.
