Naraku's Proposition and Kikyo's Plot
Chapter 4: Naraku’s Proposition and Kikyo’s Plot
Standing in front of Kikyo was the abomination that was responsible for so much unhappiness. “You show yourself in your true form? How brave," she sneered at him, trying to regain her composure. Even knowing what vile and sadistic creature Naraku was, her feelings toward him could not compare to the hate she felt for Inuyasha and Kagome.
Naraku continued to smile at the priestess, and knowing that he unnerved her gave him a perverse pleasure.
“I do not have time for this,” Kikyo spat as she turned her back on him and began to walk away.
“Why are you wasting your talents on the pursuit of Kagome when you could have true power?”
Kikyo paused and he knew that he had hit a nerve when she whirled around angrily. “Inuyasha's life belongs to me, and that girl, that botched attempt of a reincarnation has made him forget his purpose. Both of them will pay,” she hissed evilly. Warily she raised an eyebrow. “Besides, what kind of power do you think I want?”
Naraku’s lips curled into a sinister grin and whatever it was that flowed through Kikyo’s veins ran cold. “For starters, how about the power to live again.” His eyes followed a soul collector and without hesitating he grasped the silvery snakelike apparition. “These sustain your life, do they not,” he asked her slyly. As his grip tightened on the creature it released the orb it carried in its mouth and he watched as the soul floated away. “Do you realize how vulnerable you are with these parasites,” he chuckled maliciously.
Kikyo’s eyes narrowed with hatred as he crushed her soul collector with his bare hand. “What do you suggest,” she asked quietly.
Naraku slowly walked toward her and without thinking she quickly took a few steps back. “Only that you consider letting me help you. Forget the miko. Besides, even if you were to act out your revenge on her, the girl would most certainly destroy you.” Kikyo glared at him with outrage.
“What do you mean,” she hissed.
“Kikyo, surely you know that the girl is quite powerful.” His eyes sparkled as he thought about the beautiful young woman. “She has grown to be quite… intriguing.”
Kikyo lifted a brow as she eyed Naraku curiously. “What interest is she to you?”
Naraku laughed softly as he closed the gap between them forcing her up against a tree. “My dear, don’t tell me you’re jealous?” He laughed with delight at the horrified expression that crossed her face. “Now, will you accept my offer to make you into something more powerful than the pathetic carcass you are now?”
Kikyo’s eyes narrowed into slits as she looked up at him with annoyance. “The fool underestimates me, however, perhaps I can use him to my advantage,” she thought to herself.
Instantaneously her entire demeanor changed. Her cold harsh features softened and she melted into a sensual beauty. “Naraku, not only will I allow you to help me but, if you desire I will give you that which you longed for 50 years ago,” she whispered silkily as she placed his arms around his neck and kissed him deeply. After a few moments she stepped away from him and smiled deviously at the strange look on his face. “But there is one thing,” she said softly. “I will punish Inuyasha and my reincarnation.”
She noted the cool look in Naraku’s eyes and brushed her lips slightly against his. “Don’t concern yourself with her. She is nothing more than an insignificant little insect that I will exterminate. Believe me, her powers are nothing compared to mine so in the end you will have the better prize.”
He watched as Kikyo was enveloped by her soul collectors and she disappeared as quickly as she had come. He gazed dispassionately at the ground upon which she had stood as he slowly backed away into the darkness of the forest.
