Chapter 5

Sunday Morning Dreams

Kagome held him close to her cherishing the warmth he offered. It was amazing how easily he made her respond to his every touch. “I want to make you happy.” His husky voice whispered in her ear as strong hands rubbed her in all the right places. “You are incredible.” His voice slid across her senses like liquid fire. But if only she could get rid of the damn pounding in her head.

“Who are you?” She asked as she ran her hands over his warm tanned skin.

“I’m all yours.” He said as she turned to face him but the light behind him was so bright that it left his features in dark shadows. His head was outlined by a bright light that was almost silver making him look similar to an angel. She lifted her hand up to feel his face but he pulled away. There it was again, that damn pounding and voices. Why couldn’t they just go to hell and leave them alone. Her dream lover began to move away from her. A coldness was left in his place making her shiver. “Remember I’m here waiting for you.” He whispered as he reached out for her but the void was consuming him quickly as the pounding became even louder. She thought she could hear someone calling out now. A name, but what was it?

“Kagome! Kagome are you in there?” Came the pounding on her door. “Kagome! Get your lazy ass up damn it! You have to see this.” The voice demanded. Kagome groaned and opened her eyes slowly. With much effort she moved to stand but her legs were still wrapped tightly in her blankets and she ended up falling on her face.

“Ouch.” She mumbled and began to sluggishly work the blankets from her legs.

“Kagome? Are you ok?” She recognized the voice now. It was Sango, her best friend, well soon to be ex-best friend for waking her during one of her hunk dreams. That meant certain death in her book. With much effort she finally managed to grab the knob and twist it open.

“Damn it Sango, what is so fucking important this early in the morning?” She snarled as she walked toward her tiny kitchen to get a coke leaving a stunned Sango behind. She scratched her hip lazily as she yawned then flung the refrigerator door open.

“Early in the morning. Shit it’s after noon.” Sango fumed as she stepped in then closed the door behind her. “You should be up and moving by now but no you had to leave early last night with that hunk and disappear for the rest of the night.” Sango plopped down on Kagome’s bed with a bounce. Kagome turned and looked at her surprised.

“We didn’t do anything except go back to his place and while I was watching TV he got the first ten pages of my report for me.” Kagome smiled brightly. Sango looked at her as if she was nuts.

“Just ten pages? That is all he was able to get?” She asked incredulously. Kagome bit her lip nervously as she leaned against the refrigerator.

“Well he could get more but that isn’t part of the deal.” Kagome said nonchalantly. Sango blinked then frowned.

“What deal?” She narrowed her eyes knowing how Kagome could get herself mixed up in all sorts of trouble when she went off on some stupid scheme.

“Oh it isn’t anything to be concerned about really.” Kagome half laughed with a wave of her hand.
“Spill it girl friend or I’m calling your mother and telling her about last night, in great detail of course.” Sango threatened. Kagome glared at her with her pursed.

“You wouldn’t.” She seethed.

“Dare me.” Sango said defiantly.

“You scum sucker.” Kagome growled.

“Only once and he wasn’t that bad. But never from the bottom of the pond is my moto.” Sango replied airily then looked at Kagome with sincerity on her lovely face. They both started to laugh. After a few minutes they both calmed down. “So you gonna tell me what is going on between you and that silver haired hunk.” Sango stood and retrieved a coke from the fridge.

“It isn’t that big a deal really. Just one of those ‘you scratch my back, I’ll scratch your’s’ sort of things.” Kagome waved it off with her hand as she took a drink of her coke.

“Yeah I could see that but the scratching turned into heavy petting by the time you came off that dance floor.” Sango said absent mindedly causing Kagome to spit her coke out all over the place. Sango burst into laughter again. “So tell me what’s up between you two.” She asked after wiping the coke spray from her front. Kagome wiped her chin as she looked at Sango. If she lied Sango would know it. If she tried to tell a half truth Sango would still know it. So she basically had no chance.

“Well I made this deal with him to help him get the girl of his dreams to notice him.” Kagome said with a bright smile. Sango leaned back and regarded her with scrutiny.

“He is absolutely gorgeous. How could someone not notice him. What is the problem that this ‘girl’ won’t notice him in the first place. I thought you were out with some model for heaven’s sake.” Sango asked in shock.

“Oh but you see he didn’t look like that until after I got him a make over.” It was Sango’s turn to choke on her coke. She turned and looked at Kagome with worry in her eyes.

“The whole make over thing? You made that poor man endure a make over?” She asked astonished.

“He didn’t seem to mind and he was pretty desperate. Not that he wasn’t good looking before but he did need some Higurashi TLC. Anyway, that wasn’t all of the problem. They grew up together and she says she doesn’t see him as anything but a friend. But that was before the make over. She is the typical girl looking for that dream hunk to call her own.” Kagome got a dreamy look in her eye then snapped out of it almost as fast as she started. “But all she was seeing was the outside. She knows what he is really like but didn’t like the way he looked so instead of helping him with it, she rejected him. Kind of cruel if you ask me but anyway I talked to her when we were at the restaurant where she works and let me tell you, she is very protective of him. She wanted to make sure I wasn’t going to hurt him because he is a nice guy. Well you can see it once you get to know him and he is so in love with her its almost disgusting. It really is a heart breaker.” Kagome sighed dramatically

“Yeah I can tell he is so in love with her by the way he had his lips all over you last night.” Sango snorted with a giggle when Kagome turned red.

“That wasn’t actually planned but it will help the cause. Kikyo, the girl he likes, thinks I’m his girl friend so I took him to the club last night to get exposure to make her really jealous. That guy that was hassling Inuyasha is the guy that Kikyo has this thing for so he will probably tell her. In exchange for helping him get her to go out with him, he will give me my report but only a little at a time because he doesn’t want me backing out on him. Like I would.” Kagome snorted in laughter but Sango wasn’t laughing.

“What happens if she doesn’t want to go out with him? Then what?” She asked skeptically.

“Sure go ahead and piss in my post toasties would ya. Geesh Sango can’t you be optimistic for once?” Kagome griped. “I don’t want to think about it but in the case that it does happen I’ll think of something. Inuyasha is a pretty nice guy and if I put out a genuine effort then he might give it to me anyway. But I don’t think there will be a problem. Kikyo said some things that makes me believe she isn’t willing to see him with any other woman but her. It’s almost like she is just stringing him along until she gets tired of playing the field. If that is the case I’d rather see her sit in hell.” Kagome frowned at the thought. Sango watched her closely. Kagome was a do gooder but she rarely got directly in the middle of anyone’s relationships.

“Are you sure that maybe you don’t have a little bit of a crush on him yourself?” Sango teased. Kagome looked at her in shock.

“Wh..w..h...wha...t? Not even!” Kagome sputtered. “I gave up on men a long time ago.” She said indignantly.

“Well yeah, that is true I guess. It’s just hard to believe you gave up on guys by the way you were massaging his lips with yours last night.” Sango started laughing when Kagome screeched at her.

“That was so mean. Besides we were just caught up in the music until that flash...” Kagome began defending herself but then she remembered the picture that was taken.”Oh Sango did any pictures get printed in the tabloids this morning?” Kagome began dashing around the room looking for some clothes to put on.

“Calm down I have it right here.” Sango said cooly then produced said tabloid. Kagome snatched it from her hand and sat down quickly.

“Oh that is a nice shot.” She commented at the huge picture of Inuyasha and her in the middle of their lip lock while dancing with the head lines reading “Night Club Heiress Caught in Saucy Embrace with Unknown Hunk.” She squealed with excitement. “This should do it.” She said enthusiastically.

“What should to?” Came a masculine voice from the door. Kagome looked up and smiled at Inuyasha.

“Hey come look at the results of last night.” She waved him over and patted the bed next to her. He walked over and sat between her and Sango. She immediately shoved the picture in his face. His eyes got large as his mouth dropped open.

“Holly shit. When did this happen?” He asked.

“What the kiss or the picture?” Sango elbowed him and he frowned.

“Ha..ha the picture. I remember the kiss just fine.” He rolled his eyes missing the blush on Kagome’s face. “So what does this have to do with our deal?” He asked her as he eyed her in her pj bottoms and tiny strap shirt. His eyes lingered on her lips for only a second. He could almost still taste her on his lips and had to admit he wouldn’t mind tasting them again but he wouldn’t tell her that. “By the way, why aren’t you dressed. You said to pick you up at one so we could go shopping again.” He raised an eyebrow at her. She looked at herself and grinned shyly.

“Oh well I guess you wouldn’t want to be seen with me in this right.” She laughed lightly then stood to walk to her bathroom. “You can help yourself to anything in the fridge while I take my shower.” Inuyasha watched her firm butt as she walked down the short hall and disappeared into the bathroom before he stood and retrieved a coke. He glanced at her open drawer then smirked before walking down the hall and leaning against the wall just outside the door.

“Hey Kagome?” He waited for her to answer with a yeah before continuing. “You got to pick out my clothes yesterday, how bout I get to pick yours today?” He asked with a smile.

“Ok just nothing too fancy. It’s supposed to get warm.” She said in reply. He snickered to himself then went over to the drawer and pulled out the garment he saw. He walked back over and gently opened the door.

“I’m putting it right here on the sink. I promise no peeking.” Though he really wanted to. He stepped back and went to set next to Sango who had been watching him. They sat in silence for a minute until he couldn’t stand it any longer. “So I suppose Kagome told you about our arrangement.” He said. She nodded but didn’t reply like he wanted her to. In a way he was hoping she would say it was a stupid idea and he should just forget about it but then again he wanted her approval too. It was strange but she was being awfully quiet for a girl and that bothered him. She suddenly turned and looked at him fiercely.

“I want to warn you about Kagome.” She said sternly. He widened his eyes in surprise but nodded. She closed her eyes as if thinking about what to say then looked at him with sincerity that was hard to question. “Kagome has been my best friend for many years. I’ve seen her do some pretty crazy things and once she sets her mind to something its hard to change it. She is determined to make this arrangement between you two work but I have my doubts. You see Kagome may not seem like it but she is very fragile inside. She went through some experiences recently that left her...it’s hard to explain it with out saying it all but it isn’t my place to tell you. If she wants you to know about it then she will tell you but I really can’t. Anyway it left her hollow inside. It was like a part of her died. It has been a long time since I have seen her this excited about anything and I just wanted to ask you to please be careful with her. Ok? Not that I think you would do anything on purpose but I don’t think she could take another shock to her system this soon.” Her dark brown eyes pleaded with him in such a way he was compelled to agree to her demands even though he was unclear what she was talking about.

Just as he was about to say something there was a screech from the bathroom. “I should have known you perv.” Kagome yelled as she stormed out of the bathroom in nothing but a towel wrapped securely around her body to hid her modesty and a red teddy in one hand. Inuyasha fell back on her bed laughing holding his stomach. “God I’m such an idiot.” She fumed as she dug through her drawers for something proper to wear.

“Oh don’t change on my account I like what you have on now.” He snickered at the glare she sent his way.

“Alright, I guess I could strut around town all day in this.” She twisted her body around each way like a model then rolled her eyes and began her search again.

“Who said anything about in town. I wasn’t thinking of leaving the room but Sango might have to. I don’t think she would feel comfortable you know what I mean?” He wiggled his eyebrows at Kagome and she scowled at him. Sango snickered but remained quiet. More determined then ever Kagome grabbed what ever looked good and went back into the bathroom to dress. A few minutes later she came out in a light blue denim skirt, lavender silk spaghetti strap shirt and sandals.

“Ok I’m ready.” She gave her hair a flip. “Lets go do our damage.” She said with a smile. “Sango you still have Eri’s number?” Sango nodded. Kagome got a devious look on her face. “Good call her and get Yuka and Ayumi too. I want them to bait a particular waitress with this little number right here.” Kagome smiled evilly and waved the tabloid around in front of her. Inuyasha looked at her curiously but said nothing as he followed the two out the door.
