Shame on me for forgetting to. >.< So in this chapter, I’ll be sure to add him into the little kids bit. Thank you for reminding me, and I hope you enjoy Chapter 5! ^_^

Chapter V: Blind, Shivering, and Vulnerable

Inuyasha returned to camp quietly, thoughts of Kikyo heavy on his mind. As he neared the clearing of camp, he stopped, catching the scent of Sesshomaru, Rin, and Kagome. Following the faint scent, he found the three huddled together, passed out from exhaustion. What had caused even his brother to fall unconscious, Inuyasha could only imagine. He sniffed the air for danger, unable to pick up the nearly dissolved scent of Naraku’s puppet. The half breed shrugged, resolving to picking up the trio and bringing them back to camp. Sango looked up, quickly going to Inuyasha upon his return, staring at the children with a worried expression.

“Inuyasha, what happened?”

“I don’t know. This is how I found them. Guess the battle with Kagura wore them out a bit more than we expected.”

Sango nodded, accepting the answer and gently began laying the children down beside Kirara. Shippo gazed at Kagome curiously, seeing her shiver, and sat beside her to offer his warmth. Meanwhile, Rin wrapped herself unconsciously within Sesshomaru’s tail, while the demon rested a hand on Kagome’s shoulder, his sleeping mind needing to feel contact with both members of his fresh little pack.

Jaken fiddled with his thumbs a bit before going to Miroku, waiting for the monk to come out of his trance. Miroku stirred, feeling the large yellow eyes falling upon his person.

“No, I have not come up with a solution for Kagome or your lord’s condition, Master Jaken.”

“Monk, hurry with your answers. My lord cannot stay like this for too long. He has too much to defend.”

“I am working as hard as I can. Remember, I have someone dear to me in the same situation.”

Jaken gave a curt nod, returning to Ah-Un and guiding the dragon demon closer towards Lord Sesshomaru and Rin’s worn out forms.

Nakaru settled back into his castle, bemused on how Kagome’s heart became so much more accessible while she suffered in her younger state. He closed his crimson eyes patiently, waiting for morning to view the results of Sesshomaru’s bonding with the girls. He couldn’t seem to stop the malicious grin that formed on his perfect mouth, having witnessed such a need to belong and to comfort showing in the young lord’s golden eyes.

By dawn’s first light, Miroku gazed worriedly at the children, after being summoned by Shippo for his help. Kagome and Rin were crying, almost in pain as their tiny fists clenched about their chests. Meanwhile, Sesshomaru whimpered ever so slightly, breaking out into a high fever, though barely able to move.

“What the hell is wrong with them?!”

Miroku looked up to see Inuyasha approaching and shook his head. His violet eyes were shining with worry as he set his attention back onto the children.

“I don’t know. But we need to reach the village as soon as possible, Inuyasha. They need medical attention.”

Inuyasha gave a short nod and soon began the task of barking orders and trying to get everyone moving faster than they already were. Shippo’s fur bristled as he tried to help Kagome onto Kirara, but the demon lord would not let up his grip on the girl’s hand, regardless on how feeble he looked. On that same note, his tail was wrapped snuggly around Rin, and it seemed any attempt to move the two girl’s from him would seemingly cause him pain and another pitiful whimper would emerge from the pup’s mouth.

“Miroku, can we just settle the three onto Ah-Un, he’s big enough.”

The lecherous monk looked over at Sango with a smile and nodded, helping her with the chain of human and demon alike onto Ah-Un’s back, readying to leave.

By midday, the troop was getting more restless and worried. The girl’s had yet to awaken from their painful state, and Sesshomaru laid limply between him. The demon lord had opened his eyes, but the pale orbs seemed to see nothing before him. Instead, his dead gaze remained straight in the direction his head bobbed into as the dragon demon’s movements shifted from side to side. Over the particularly bumpy parts of the road, one of the three children managed a soft whine of discomfort, and Sango would find herself gently stroking the hair of each child in turn, cooing softly to sooth some of their stress.

At long last, by the end of the evening, the village was in sight. Miroku ran ahead, demanding that Inuyasha stay back while he talked to the head of the village. With three children who were in pain, sick, dieing, or whatever other horrible thing was happening to them, the monk was not about to risk any delay due to a useless confrontation.

The village’s head was an elderly man, who’s wrinkled face expressed his years of both joy and sorry. His left leg was lame with age, as he steadied himself on a staff, hobbling towards the oncoming monk. His faded eyes widened at the sight of the dragon demon trailing beyond the monk, accompanied with what looked to be a half demon.

Quickly, Miroku explained to the elder of the village what the symptoms of the children were, and if there was anything that they could do for them. Ah-Un sauntered towards the village, rearing back his heads when the humans ventured too close to his precious cargo. The elder, who’s name was Kano, thought for a brief moment before shuffling towards the dragon.

“Calm yerself, beast, I only wish to examine the young one’s condition.”

Miroku followed behind Lord Kano, taking Ah-Un’s lead rope to try and get the animal to settle. Finally, Kano was able to gaze upon the children, still sweating and feeble.

“Come monk, we must be quick and get them inside.”

Completely ignoring Inuyasha and Sango, the elderly man limped back towards his home, showing Miroku where to set the children. After getting the babes indoors, Kano settled himself onto the floor, and looked over the children and how not a one would let the other go. His eyes finally rested on a pair of bite marks, identical on all three pairs of arms.

Shippo hurried onto Miroku’s shoulder as Inuyasha and Sango settled behind the monk, leaving it up to Jaken to take care of Ah-Un.

“These young one’s are bonded. Odd…”

Sango looked up curiously, a small frown playing on her lips as she gently wiped a sweaty strand of hair from Kagome’s face.

“What is odd about it?”

Miroku looked up, offering an explanation.

“Usually, the only bonding that is ever done is between married couples or mates. Or when one adopts a child into their family. Children, humans and demons alike, are never the ones to do the bonding though.”

Sango’s frown only deepened, seeing Sesshomaru’s blinded eyes staring ineffectively up at the ceiling. Finally, Kano spoke up again.

“Was the young demon abandoned?”

The monk held his hand up as Inuyasha seemed to be about to answer. Instead, Miroku offered a white lie in an attempt to save what was left of Lord Sesshomaru’s delicate ego.

“Hai, he was. We found him not long ago with the young girl here, Rin.”

Kano nodded thoughtfully then chuckled softly.

“The pup be a dog demon’s spawn. No wonder he bonded with the lasses. He probably is trying to make himself as much of a pack as he can.”

“Then why didn’t he bond with Shippo?”

Miroku looked over at Sango who was looking down at the fox kit, thinking a brief moment before answering.

“Probably because Shippo was with us when it happened.”

“Or it could be because he’s male.”

Miroku quirked a brow at Lord Kano, before offering the olde man his ear.

“Women and girl’s are more accepting of change and strangers. He probably felt they would be more loyal from the start, and therefore a better start to make his new family.”

Shippo whimpered softly, snuggling against Kagome.

“Will she be better?”

His emerald eyes pleaded with the elderly man for at least some good news. Kano gave a soft smile to the young demon, chuckling deeply and nodded.

“Aye, young lad, they’ll all be fine and back to normal. The bond is just a share of blood. And for a demon to bond with two lasses, he’s sharing his lifespan with them. The lasses aren’t used to demon blood flowing in them, and he’s not used to being as weak as a human. Until they recover, guard ye young one’s well.”
