From Goodbyes to New Adventures

Chapter 5: Rise and Shine


Kagome was shocked when she looked around to see that she not only had both taiyoukais holding her, but both were sleeping soundly-or so it seemed.

She began to shift as gently as she could. She needed to get up and move, not to mention seeing to some business.

As soon as Kagome made a little more than minimal progress, she was greeted with two sets of vicious sounding growls. Her eyes went wide, and she looked down into the faces of the ‘sleeping’ demons.

Both had dark red eyes and were growling lowly at her. The next voices she heard shocked her to her very core. They were deep and guttural and primitive.

“You need to sleep.”

“You will lay back down now.”

Both orders were given in the unfamiliar voices that held the same tone as the growls she was still recieving. This unnerved Kagome, and she obeyed, too stunned to do otherwise.

A few uncomfortable moments passed by and both demons’ chests continued to rumble, but it had changed to a more soothing and comforting rhythm.

Kagome relaxed but stayed determined to take care of her needs. Her muscles were sore from not being used and lying still, and she still needed to take care of her intimate needs.


Sesshomaru was the first to gain control of his youkai. He noticed that Koga’s eyes were still red as he stroked Kagome’s side and continued to make low growling noises. He also noticed that Kagome’s heartbeat was steady and calm.

‘She was not afraid of our youkais. She is completely calm and still awake. How would she have known to just submit to us until we regain control?’

Sesshomaru continued to ponder the puzzling situation for a moment more until he decided to speak up and reassure the girl.

“Just lay still for a moment more, and he will regain control of his youkai. You will be allowed up after that. We both will insist in accompanying you, though.” Once his words left his mouth, Kagome turned her head to look into the golden gaze that was looking straight into her blue one.

“I need to walk around to loosen back up. I feel so stiff. I also need to…um…see to some needs. I want to do that on my own.” She was pleading with him to understand but to no avail.

“You will not be left alone. At least one of us will be with you, probably both. You defeated Naraku making you highly prized in youkai society for your power. We still have a quest to finish.”

Koga’s growls had stopped, causing Kagome to turn and look at him.

His eyes had returned to their original deep blue, and he was smiling down at her.

“You’re awake. How are you feeling?” he inquired so that they knew how much she had really recovered.

Kagome sat up and shifted to where she was facing the two demons that had been sleeping with her. She sat ‘Indian-style’ and leaned back onto her hands into a semi-reclined position.

“I feel just fine. I am only stiff from lying here for so long. I really need to get up and walk around for a little bit and, I’m sure you both get the picture,” she responded to his question.

Koga looked to Sesshomaru then back to Kagome. He had exchanged a silent conversation with the other taiyoukai, and they both agreed that if she felt that she needed it then she would receive it. “You may take care of your needs, but we will be with you. We may also walk as far as the hot springs over there. You are to remain with us. You will do as we say in this.”

Kagome was surprised at his stern tone when he issued his command that she remain with him. It mirrored perfectly what Sesshomaru had just said.

‘These two are not planning on letting me out of their sight for anything. What is up with them? They really expect to remain in my company for every second…well; maybe I will just let them have their way for a little while. They will calm down and realize that I am just fine. Back to petting egos. I should be very good at it by now after all, I did this with Inu Yasha and it always worked. I swear I always end up with the possessive ones.”

With her mind made up to allow them to have their way for now, she tilted her head slightly to the side and nodded once to indicate that she understood and would do as they wished. She did not realize that it was also a sign of submission as she had exposed her throat and neck to them.

The trio got up and walked into the woods. Kagome was provided with minimal privacy as she took care of her needs when the two had turned their backs to her.

Once she finished, they continued to walk. Kagome had a little skip in her gait, and she actually started to hum a soft, sweet lullaby. She felt lighthearted and happy. She hadn’t felt like this even once after she had lost Inu Yasha.

Both Koga and Sesshomaru were pleased to see this change in her demeanor. She was finally really coming to terms with all that she had lost during the last few months. She would be able to move on and soon.

Kagome looked at Koga on her right and Sesshomaru on her left when they reached the water. She then gazed longingly at the hot water. Her eyes took on a mischievous glint to them. ‘I wonder how they will react if I were to get in.’ Her mind went over all of the possible scenarios and couldn’t come up with a reason why not to just follow through on her desires and get in.

Koga looked shocked when his mouth fell open, but he recovered quickly.

Sesshomaru, on the other hand, looked pleased, and the emotion actually was reflected in the smile he had as well in his eyes that were becoming warmer by the second.

Kagome started stripping only to be copied by the two powerful demons that stayed by her side.

She felt more playful by the second and challenged them without knowing how they would respond. They both had been so serious earlier that she almost feared that they would be angered by her actions, but she knew that they wouldn’t cause her harm. They both had stated some kind of a claim to her.

“Last one to the boulders is a rotten egg!”

Kagome took off; she had a head start because she was already naked and they were still taking their clothes off. She dashed off only to make it about half way to her destination.

Her playful nature had excited Koga. Wolf demon pups played chase games all the time and this continued into adulthood. He dashed in and grabbed Kagome around her waist while she was in mid-stroke. He didn’t even take the time to admire the fact that she could swim well.

Sesshomaru had gotten excited as well. He dashed in at the same time as Koga to chase the little miko who was making her way to the large, smooth rocks. He wrapped his one arm around Kagome and landed his body just behind Koga.

She heard the playful growl that they were issuing. She decided to try and duck underneath the water. She reached her arms around and began to tickle both demons along opposing sides. She was released by two laughing demons but never made it below the water.

Kagome found herself drug up against a very aroused Koga and his lips pressed on hers. She could feel the quickened pace of his heartbeat. Kagome pulled back and looked into Koga’s wide eyes. She turned and looked at Sesshomaru.

Her eyes met with his and saw… desire/longing?

‘Sesshomaru claimed me only because I belonged to Inu Yasha. Right?’ Her thoughts blurred out as he shifted closer to her. His lips descended and brushed against hers in an intense but brief meeting.

Kagome looked between her two demons asking silently with her eyes what was happening.

Both taiyoukais began to nuzzle her to lull her into calming. She laid her head on Sesshomaru’s shoulder.

All of a sudden, Koga began to growl toward the tree line that was opposite from camp. Sesshomaru’s menacing growl joined Koga’s. Coming out of the trees was a pack of wolves. With that pack was wolf demons, apparently not from Koga’s own pack.

A wolf demoness stepped forward. She had light hair and fur.

“Are you Koga, taiyoukai of the East? I have come to reclaim my pack’s honor. You refused Ayame’s suit, breaking you promise and sending her in disgrace back home over a mere human.”

The fight was rather one sided as both taiyoukais ran forward and attacked the threat that had dared interrupted them.

A wolf jumped up and latched onto Sesshomaru’s back. Koga grabbed it and threw it into a tree only to hear a crunch and see it bend in an unnatural position at the base of the trunk.

Two wolves jumped for Koga’s throat but were stopped by a green whip.

The remaining members noted their diminishing numbers and retreated.

Kagome was dazed as she made her way toward the two that protected and took care of her. She sat next to where Sesshomaru was now lying on his front. Koga was bent over him examining the spot where the wolf had taken out a chunk of flesh when it had been snatched off.

Kagome acted on instinct. Her hands started glowing a soft pink; she leaned over and pressed her hands on his back. Her eyes closed and she pictured him well and chasing after her just as he had been only moments before.

When she leaned back onto her feet, she encountered Sesshomaru staring at his hands.

Sesshomaru had grown his left arm and hand back and was studying it.

A thought hit Koga that was so profound that he was left speechless momentarily. ‘She is developing loyalties toward both Sesshomaru and myself. This is happening faster than I thought it would without a major battle from her. She was loyal to Inu Yasha the entire time she traveled with him no matter how he treated her or what the circumstances were. The only thing she did against him was to ‘sit’ him, but there was always a reason behind it.’

Sesshomaru looked up from his new arm and studied Kagome. She looked dumbfounded. Her eyes were wide as she shifted them from his left arm to his face and stared straight into his eyes.

“Are-Are you feeling okay?” Her question nearly made both demons laugh if she hadn’t looked so horrified. “I didn’t know that was going to happen. I wasn’t even sure what I was doing…”

Sesshomaru smiled at the young miko-yes, he actually smiled and it was dazzling. “This was wonderful. My thanks to you, my sweet Kagome.”

The demon lord really and truly thanked her. She had almost had enough miracles for one day. She nodded her acceptance and smiled while turning toward Koga.

“Why don’t we head back and check on everyone else,” Kagome suggested. The three walked back to camp to see Ginta and Hakkaku awake and on their guard. Koga stepped over to talk to them while Sesshomaru settled Kagome back down for the remainder of the night.

“Miko, what are your feelings toward Prince Koga and myself?”

“Prince Koga? Um, I don’t really know right now.” Her voice wavered as she realized that she didn’t know a lot about her long time friend that had always claimed her.

Sesshomaru allowed her a moment to compose the thoughts he could see running across her face. Once he saw that her face had settled into a softly gentle smile, his hopes began to soar. He knew that it was customary for demons, especially demon lords, to take their mates by force, but this girl was special. She had gained favor of both himself and another taiyoukai. Both had been nearly to the point of claiming her tonight, and she would have allowed it. He was certain of it.

She spoke up breaking his reverie of what had just happened. “I don’t like to think that there will be any animosity between the two of you. I feel protected with either of you and watched out for, but with the both of you I feel completely at ease as long as the both of you do. It is almost weird. Ever since we have joined together, I feel like I know what you either one of you are feeling. You have been very uncertain, and Koga has been feeling somewhat threatened. Why?”

Her straight forwardness took him back for a moment. “We both have claims for you that are legitimate. We have to come to a suitable compromise. We are also trying to gage your feelings and reactions to us. This Sesshomaru does not know how you feel towards him. Prince Koga is worried about losing you to me.”

Kagome could only nod at what he said. Koga sat down on her other side just at that point. He sent a silent quizzical look towards the other demon that shrugged slightly with one shoulder. Koga was fairly certain what they had been talking about. He would talk about it once Kagome had settled down to sleep. No other members of the pack, who were on the other side of the fire, were still awake. Ginta and Hakkaku were already settling down around the pups, Kohaku and Jaken. Sango and Miroku were located far back snuggled up together.

They all would have a surprise in the morning.

“She is rather fond and loyal to the both of us now.” Koga turned toward the whispered words coming from the Lord of the West.

“We should find shelter and take a short break. She needs to finish recovering and I am sure everyone could use a little down time after the last few months,” Koga said instead of responding to what Sesshomaru had said.

“We need to talk about what is to happen with Kagome. She said that she feels safe with either of us but expressed her preference for being with the both of us. She also imparted a most interesting piece of information. It seems that she can already feel your emotions as well as mine. She said that you felt threatened,” he said with a tone that indicated that he would not be ignored.

Koga nodded, keeping his gaze on Kagome’s face. “We have both already said that we will not relinquish our claims on her. I do not want to cause her upset or force her to choose if she does not wish to. As you have said, she is developing loyalties to both of us, which can cause some problems if we are at odds. She remains loyal no matter what. You know this as well as I do. We saw it enough with your younger brother. Do you suggest a compromise or what?”

The pair continued talking, planning and hypothesizing on possible routes and outcomes this situation could lead to. When they were finished, both were satisfied. The only thing remaining was agreement from the other involved party.
